A quiz was something he was far more comfortable with than an obstacle course, and with good reason. Elium wasn't afraid of answer bubbles and vague wording, but fire and overly touchy-feely bombs were a different matter entirely. On the plus side, his run through that was over, and now, another trial had come up.

The plague eater settled into his cubicle with only minimal fidgeting, tugging slightly at his collar out of habit as he got comfortable. So far, everything was alright--and then all the clanging happened.
Those walls were suddenly a lot less friendly.

Drawing his eyes away from the weaponry and down to the first section, Elium picked up his penstrictor with a small sigh, eying the title warily. So this was on the history of Halloween, was it? Alright, he could deal with this. He scanned the questions, a look of confusion flickering across his mask as he realized something was off. A code or something--? Why were those questions like that...?
He did alright enough, he figured; even with the small setback provided by the code, Elium was confident enough with his answers. On to the second section, then.

Math.
The sudden bursts of blood were enough to put him off, but the strange language on the paper did everything in. He tried his best to fill in as many questions as he could understand, but it wasn't that long before he grew frustrated. Just what were these characters trying to say? He focused on a few lines, toying with the words idly--and that was his first mistake. Elium only had a few seconds to reflect on the odd burning sensation that built swiftly behind his eyes before it got to a breaking point, causing his vision to cut out abruptly as something flowed down his face, leaking out of the vents in his mask as he writhed in his seat, a few muffled sounds of pain audible. What was he supposed to do now? That wasn't what was on his mind at the moment, no, but he'd start wondering that in a little while. For the time being, he banged his fist on the desk, his gauntlet producing a satisfying thunk as it dented the surface. The undead would be more concerned about the test if he wasn't hurting so much--all he could hope for was maybe a bit of first aid, as unlikely as it seemed. Dammit. This wasn't going as well as he would have assumed it would. Judging by what had happened the moment he'd gotten to this section and the screams everywhere, he wasn't the only one to get harmed; that knowledge was not reassuring in the slightest.

It took far longer than he would have liked or expected, but his vision eventually came back--and the sensation of his eyes regenerating was something he never wanted to feel again. If he were able, Elium very likely would have clawed them out himself to stop it, but--so much for that plan. Blinking down at the third section with his eyes narrowed from the light, the plague eater couldn't help but curse. Human studies? That wasn't something he was very knowledgeable in. He'd just have to give it a shot and hope it went better than the last time...
The code appeared again in this section, and Elium refused to even try reading it out. Sure, it might not be the same language as the one that melted his eyes, but he'd rather not take any chances. Filling out his answers, he moved on to the next part, gritting his teeth.

Literature of Halloween was the topic of this chunk of the test--and there was another odd language, this time clearly discernible from the code. Nope, nope, nope, not reading that aloud. Filling in his questions as quickly as he could, Elium rushed through this part of the test, clearly unsettled. He wasn't about to figure out what this bout of text would do; it certainly looked different from the first, and he severely doubted that it did the same thing. Not worth trying at all, regardless.

A quick flip through the pages revealed that he was on the last part of the quiz--good. Even if he preferred academic studies, Elium was far more than ready to get out of here. General Studies sounded far more up his alley than math, and he got to working on his answers eagerly, hoping that he'd be able to get out of here as soon as he'd filled in the last blank. His efforts were rewarded--instead of some sort of terrible eyeball-melting word, he was treated to a soft, calming glow emanating from the section of the quiz. Was it just because it was over--? He wasn't going to ask. Either way, he was done, and he wasted no time in getting up and trotting as far away from the cubicles as he could currently manage.

It had taken a bit, but he'd gotten over the... lack of proper layers involved with the uniforms. Which really meant he'd finally decided to cope and leave the changing rooms provided for that. But Molan wasn't happy. Not at all. And he'd sure taken his time, entirely missing the first event for it.

...well. Whatever it was some sort of race anyway. He probably wouldn't have done that well.

This, however, seemed right up his alley. A test. He could take tests. He could take them well. If he could just get over the fact that he needed about... twice as much cloth to it. At least he didn't have to race around like this.

...maybe.

He'd only gotten to his desk when the rather sharp suggestions dropped to hint he should... work rather hard. Right. Thanks. He lifted a hand to brush one blade a bit further off as both ears dropped, inching away. That wasn't a pleasant way to start a test. Whatever, he'd make due.

So with that in mind he ducked his head down to focus on his test, opening the first pamphlet to find... code? This was supposed to be the history of their world, it was... but instead it was in gobble-dee goop that Jack only knew what it was. He grimaced, flicking through another page. Well alright, only some of it was in questionable lettering. Fine.

He could do this. So with that in mind he got to work writing out answers and doing his best to decipher the code. But some of it really didn't make any sense, so... goodness knew what, but he didn't think he got those right. Still it wasn't THAT bad.

Next up... math. Well. That would be easy. He'd tried to assist with his father's work enough times to be able to crunch numbers in his sleep. Or close to it. Even as screams erupted around from other cubes he merely grimaced and went back to his work filling out his answers as if it was all a joke.

Because it was. Too easy. Simply too easy.

Next up was human studies. And while he'd been to the human world a few times at this point, a lot of what he read didn't seem to match up. Even so, best guessing got him a long way as he worked through the test, the page finally glowing a bit as he finished.

Oh yes, he was just that good sometimes. ...alright only when it involved having studied a bit too much. Still, this test was as good as aced.

The next section wasn't too bad either. Literature was... well right up his alley. Molan found himself happily working through the test and nearly done... until he noticed someone standing up and peeking into his cube. RUDE MUCH! He glared up at the face, not recognizing them as he worked to cover his own sheet of paper. He was not about to let someone else get credit for his hard earned score. Sadly, saving his paper ate up time and he hadn't been able to finish. Uhg... losing points because of a brat.

He would not forgive them at all.

And then the final test came. General studies. That shouldn't have been a problem. It really shouldn't have, but it was. Only because his test seemed to entirely be about cooking. A field... he was learning about... but barely scraping along with. He was doing his best to recall the facts it wanted until he managed along a question that ruined it all.

Why, oh why, did his test have to smell like Xiu's freshly baked spookies? Now he really wanted some, but this wasn't the time. It really wasn't. Still... it did make getting through the final section harder. That did NOT help with anything.

Still, overall he hadn't done too poorly, even as he turned in his paper. ...he could use some improvement though. He'd study more later.

Sin was still in a wretched mood after the unsavory news of Demon Dorm coming in last place for the Obstacle Race. Not winning was bad enough, but coming in last battered her pride insufferably! As she approached the cubicles and saw the quiz pamphlet Sin suddenly wished she'd spent more time studying lately. She sat down and cringed at the discomfort of the chair before looking up startled at the cubicle suddenly locked on her. Sweet love of Jack wasn't the quiz threatening enough?!

She settled after a minute and took a deep breath before opening the first section.

Oh, Halloween History, no problem... Except of course that as Sun started to answer she realized some of these questions were totally bizarre and unknown to her. She felt heat at the edge of her skirt and tried to ignore it and focus on the quiz, but then she glanced down in time to see a tongue of flame lick right up her dress and start to blaze.

The expensive fabric burned rather well and Sin had to rip her dress and stamp out the fire. She looked down at her tenderized hands and cringed at her dress, what had been an elegant slit was now a leg baring jagged mess. Okay who could be expected to concentrate if set on fire?!

She moved on to Math and was proceeding rather well, despite the shooting burn pains in her hands, when she came upon what appeared to be a diary page. She re-read it hoping to find the math problem hidden within but it was just a random page of some professors diary, so strange.

Sin cringed, human world studies was the next subject and she absolutely hated it. Humans were just a source of fear with peculiar habits as far as Sin cared all that mattered was how to frighten them or kill them if they became a threat. She answered each question quickly and tersely and glared as she came to a shopping list, was this a trick question?

To Buy:
- Frogsbreath
- Bat Sprinkles
- Minipet Milk
- Eyeless Potatoes
- Scream Spinach
- Juice

After staring for awhile Sin decided to just move on to the next section, Literature! Ah finally something she could enjo-The next thing she knew a trap door had opened under her and she and her chair had been cast into a pit. With a string of curses Sin set about climbing back up, she hauled herself out and panicked at the timer hastily trying to answer questions before moving on to the next section. Damn it all!

The next section appeared to be a complete hodgepodge but Sin managed to answer most of the questions. She came to one in cooking and thanked the Err household staff for letting her play in the kitchen. A delightful aroma filled the air and made her stomach tighten with hunger. Well she was almost done then maybe she could go find food. She answered the last question and turned in, now she desperately needed a change of clothes and a meal.

He was not good at tests but by Jack he was going to do his best this time.

Except within the first five minutes it was apparent that somebody was not following the rules properly. Ren made a silent squawk of outrage and pulled his paper closer to him, wrapping an arm around it so that nobody else could see it but him.

Ain't nobody gonna cheat off of Ren the Gryphon's paper.

The code part of the Math test was slightly confusing, but Ren powered through it all the same, determinedly marking down whatever answers he knew and literally winging it (pun intended) for those questions he didn't know. The same went for the Human World questions.

But it was during the Literature section that the same thing happened - the same student was cheating off of him. Ren made a face and pressed his nose to his own paper, determinedly marking down the answers.

When he was finished, he held it up proudly, slapped it on the desk, and then was promptly dragged away by the hooded figures because he'd tried to read the language aloud.

A quiz. Ok, she could do this. She wasn't a straight As student but As and Bs were good right? Right.

Meixiang was feeling pumped until she approached the desk with all it's...contraptions. Oh Jack what was this? The ghoul wrung her hands as she slipped into her seat, staring down at the pieces of paper and pencil in front of her. Glancing side to side and swallowing hard.

No pressure.

The first section was pretty easy. Though that code was a bit tricky. Mei had a pretty decent grasp on the history of Halloween. Who wouldn't?

Next math. Yea uh, obviously not her best subject. At least hard math that was anything more than adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing. And she even had a hard time with the multiplying and dividing if the numbers were really big. She leaned slightly to the side, trying to see if she could spy on anyone else's paper.

She felt kind of odd how easily the answers for the Human Studies section came to her. But she really didn't think anything of it. Obviously she had just been paying attention in class that day. Or something.

Lit. Ok. Wait Willy what are you doing? No never mind concentrate!

General studies. Easy enough. Although this question about cooking was making her stomach rumble. Maybe she'd get a snack after wards. That was a good goal to work towards yes.

Llyr had no idea why he was here or what he was doing.

Which was probably why the test was covered in little doodled flowers, a few puddles of water, several intricately drawn vines and trees, several flower petals, and the scent of rosemary.

This, right here, this quiz was what Sparrow had been waiting for.

This was his territory.

Beaming brightly, Sparrow answered questions with gusto, sweeping his quill across the paper and answering as many of the questions as he could. There were only a few he didn't know, and none that he didn't know in the Math section, which thrilled him, and when he finished the test, Sparrow was elated.

He bounced from the room feeling much better about this one than he had the last event.

There was an announcement when AJ was on duty at monster booth. Oh yes! He signed up for the house cup and should go to contribute for his house, whether he performed well or not.

When the clean boil showed up at the stadium, it was different. There were some cubicles with students, some were waiting impatiently, some were humming a song or whistling, some even fell asleep on the desk. Um. They must be tired by the obstacle race, he thought. A sign stood near the entrance was written "Free seating.", so he randomly picked a seat he liked and fingered with what he got. Meantime, Head was bored and looked around out of curiosity. It was so boring that it just wanted to go back to the yummy booth and sneaked some more cookies when AJ was mingling.

"STUDENTS. ARE YOU READY."

It was even not a question. A calm but grim voice echoed within the area and what followed were mechanical noises. It stopped and the boil, or better said all the candidates found themselves surrounded by weapons. AJ couldn't help but made a short and delight whistle. All kinds of interesting destructive weapons. He smiled and looked at the axe hanging right above his desk, it was reflecting in white light. They craved for blood.

When the boil was examining all the entertainment he suddenly got, the voice raised again.

"YOU MAY NOT LEAVE YOUR SEAT UNTIL YOU FINISH THE QUIZ. YOU MAY START NOW."

What does it call again? Oh yes. The CHOP QUIZ.

Although Head had zero interest over writing, it yawned and rested on AJ's shoulder, AJ was just the opposite. Amityville never fail to give him surprises. It was a fortune that he enrolled in this school. Don't forget you are doing it for your house, AJ. Well, he should start.

Em? History? AJ wasn't a good student, while still in his birthplace, he either skipped classes or spaced out. So he wasn't good at this, but he was sensitive to danger. When a weight dropped, he just leisurely moved the chair a bit, just enough to evade it. Scribbling through the questions, he moved on.

Maths? Not sooner he read the maths, he heard screaming and blood sprays out from other cubicles. BLOOD. It wasn't a thing that would scare the serpent-dragon, it only made him excited. He scribbled down what he thought to be the right answer, coding wasn't so different to solve. Not the best but still good.

Oh questions about humans! He was very interested in the human world when "she" told him stories about it. She? Who was "she"? AJ sured she was not his sister or mother, she was powerful, confident and charming, but he didn't remember her. Who. is. she? The struggling annoyed AJ, what he wanted to do was leaving this place as soon as possible and calm down. He felt the beast inside him was yelling to come out. The "humans" brought to life by the spell were shoved out from his table, he had no time for that.

He started to just writing straightly, using his own instinct. He didn't try to understand the poems even.

The last part was like a mess, luckily most of them are multiple choices. So he randomly picked answers and dashing through the questions. Well, if they were really questions.

A tree bark? Was it just fell off and accidentally enclosed in the booklet? AJ didn't care at all and threw it off like a rubbish.

Checking the time, another batch of spookies should be ready.

Alexander folded himself into the desk, long legs unable to bend due to room restrictions, and so were instead left to stretch out in front of him, crossing at the ankles. One half rotten and one fairly low rot hand clutched at the desktop, tapping out a rhythm with index fingers, one with a skeletal tapping and the other with a dull thudding. For a long moment, the zomboil just stared down at the quiz pamphlet, the paper, and the haunted pencil, silently wondering if it could really just be so easy as taking a quiz when---

Suddenly his cubicle became armed and dangerous, with all manner of nasty weapons pointed at him. Eyebrows raised as he looked around with mismatched eyes, and he slowly began to chew on his bottom lip.

Well..okay then.

Straightening up as well as he could in his chair before hunching forward, he opened up his pamphlet and began, trying to ignore the menacing objects of mass destruction that surrounded him.

First up, Halloween History. Alexander almost laughed as he went through each question, filling in the answers. This was one of the first subjects he had helped Yin with, back when Yin had asked him to for help, at least, something he didn't do anymore. This was easy to him, and when he finished, the paper began to glow with a golden like light. Was that a good thing? He hoped so, because it gave him a warm feeling inside to see it.

Next came How2Math, and once again the zomboil flew through the answers, only using his scratch paper on a few. Once again, his page began to glow, and not a single weapon fired at him.

All was well.

Human World Studies. The zomboil sighed, face screwing up slightly. It was no secret that he hated humans, but it was also common knowledge that one should know their enemy. He had no problems with answering any of the questions, though just thinking about humans had him thinking about hunters, and thinking about hunters made him---

---Snap!

His hand had tightened too hard on his pencil, and it had broken in half, jagged edges digging into what was left of the skin on his right hand. He let out a frustrated sigh, and dropped the two halves onto his desk, reaching for another, lucky that they were in good supply.

The questions were finished and the paper began to glow, but this time Alex wasn't in the mood for good feelings.

Literature of Halloween was perhaps the easiest of all the sections he'd had to do yet. The zomboil had that part done in record time, the golden glow giving him pause only to smile in satisfaction before he moved on, his mood lightening slightly as he wiped away thoughts of hunters and got back to business.

This last section....General Studies. Most of it was easy stuff, and he jotted down answers without pause until....

He squinted at the page. What was this? Was it...written in code? He spent some time pondering it out, eyebrows furrowing. How was he supposed to know the answer when he couldn't even understand the question?

At that point he just...sort of guessed. When nothing happened, he figured he must have done okay, but when the section didn't glow as all the others had done well...

He was actually fairly disappointed with himself, even if he had answered everything else perfectly. He dropped his pencil and rubbed at his eyes with the heels of his hands, hoping that his failure at absolute perfection didn't ruin his teams chances of winning.

Mathias did not want to write a quiz. Really, truly, this was not his kind of thing and he knew before he even sat down in a too big desk that he was not going to do well. Still, this was a competition, and he had to at least put in his best effort, to prove himself, to prove that he could potentially do better then anyone envisioned.

He began his exam.

His first section had to do with...Halloween History. Each sentence took him time to read through, to make sure that he understood correctly. He chewed on the inside of his lip, ears twitching above his head with mild worry as he began filling in what he thought were the correct answers.

And was promptly set on fire.

The wolpertinger swore under his breath and rolled out of his desk and around on the floor, wings beating to put out flames that sprung up on his clothes.

Crawling back into his desk, he began again.

The next section, somehow, he did okay with. Numbers were not as difficult for him to understand, perhaps, or maybe he was just a really good guesser. He got through the section fairly quickly, only stopping a few times when getting to areas he couldn't quite understand.

At least he didn't get set on fire again.

Once the third section was complete, or at least, half way there, Mathias's pen began to grow. And grow. And grow. It was suddenly a giant snake, big enough to swallow him up whole if it so desired. Hissing, he stabbed at it with his pencil, attempting to fend it off, wings flapping, as he continued to try and finish the stupid exam.

.....He suddenly shrunk down to only one inch in size. Mathias was small enough as it was, this really did not need to happen to him. On the plus side, he was now too tiny for the snake to pay any attention to.

Finally he was on the last section and...

...Yep, his desk just grew a mouth and bit off his hand. Mathias was so done here.

So done.

Tybalt squirmed in his seat. Why did they have to do a quiz as one of the challenges? He hated tests! Worse--he was horribly BAD at writing them. He always froze and him mind usually went blank. He was doomed. DOOMED.

However, shortly after starting the test, something dropped, hitting the black dog over the head and knocking him out for the majority of the first section. By the time he finally regained consciousness, one of the papers was stuck to his face and he has just enough time to scribble in a few answers.

The next section was worse. If there was anything the black dog hated more than writing a test, was writing a math test. How evil could they really be? Making them write a test, in these circumstances, and with a whole dorm counting on you to get it right. If the black dog could sweat, he would be.

Tybalt made it through the first few pages, but something was strange about the next... wait. This was--

"This isn't math!" he hissed out in surprise. Fortunately low enough that no one even heard him. Was this one of those blessings in disguise?

The next section seemed to have a similar issue. Rather than a page of human studies, Tybalt found himself staring at a shopping list. A Halloween one at that. Seriously? Who was responsible for handing these out anyways?

This was getting ridiculous.

With a low grumble, the black dog moved onto the second last section and almost groaned. Poetry? Really? He wasn't in to poetry nor was he particularly good at it. Who cares if roses were red and violets were blue. They were just some jacking flowers right? But since the rest of the dorm was counting on him to at least try and write this test, Tybalt gave it his best shot and when he was done, the section began to glow a bright orange. Better yet, nothing bad happened. Did that mean he did well?

The final section... he wasn't so lucky. In fact, he was jacking bleeding out. What the hell? When did that even happen? And of course, it had to happen during a first aid question too. Of course. Talk about irony. But worse, not only did he have absolutely no idea how to answer it, he also had to treat his own injury, because it looked like the staff weren't going to intervene. Lovely.

With another irritable growl, pressed his one hand firmly against the wound, while he used the other to answer the question as best as he could. It was just a guess. But he supposed a guess was better than leaving it blank, right?

Nooooo! Muka hated paper work! Muka hated tests! He hated reading AND writing!

The strix plopped heavily in his chair and made very distressed bird noises through the entirety of the exam.

He stared at the history section, immediately finding his mind blank, but he dug deep to answer questions. Even the ones that seemed to be in another language. In fact the minipets were a pleasant distraction, no matter how aggressive.

Math wasn't his best subject but he didn't mind it so much since it helped him with his money management. Who was this Wet Willy guy? Muka snapped his teeth wildly at him when he showed up.

Human Studies was a class he'd taken several times. He had to do alright... right? Though, to be honest, he couldn't think of any true solid human facts besides the fact that they produced FEAR and couldn't see the students yet. Thankfully the weirdly worded phrases caused some really funny dancing pictures!

Literature caused Muka to panic. He didn't read much. He'd been read to but that was it. He decided to just guess. Which..... apparently garnered him a perfectly glowing test score.

By the last section he was completely exhausted with thinking. Thankfully the general knowledge was indeed rather general and despite a few confusing things, he managed to slide by just fine.

Eira made it to her cubicle and had to stay there until she was finished. Loud noises made it hard to concentrate, but she wanted to hurry up and get done. "Alright first page....." Was this something from a cook book? She circled a few of the ingredients hoping they would be the right answers.

The little ghost felt a pair of eyes on her and her test paper. Looking up it was literally just a monsters eyes watching. Looking around to see if there was an administrators around to catch the student, when there wasn't she flicked them away.

She was diligently working when something shot her to the wall, pinning her there. "A HARPOON!? What in the world?" Luckily her ribbons were still free to move. Instead of helping her, they really just doodled all over her paper.

Eventually the harpoon faded away and Eira slide down the wall and crawled back to her chair. Time passing by and danger as ways lurking she continued. Some of the questions are in code, but they weren't too hard to figure out.

Feeling good again she was on the last section of the test.... then tree bark. What was this even for.... She wrote out 'go ghosts, haha demons' and then continued to finish up her test.

She really wasn't sure what to think at this point, only that Amityville had some questionable methods when it came to 'education'. Rhiannon looked at the weapons warily, hoping beyond hope that they were malfunctioning or for visual reinforcement. She was confident she would do well on the test, having read a multitude of books and other reading materials, but of course, there was bound to be some surprises just around the corner.

She picked up her pencil and started to fill in the History section, easily going through the questions like a pro. Oddly enough, some questions were in code:
• Is 010111 > 110100 ?
• If #doc3 {margin:auto;} does it need refreshing?

"What the-," just when she was remembering the binary code sequence, she noticed another student staring her way. The demon boil grinned, filling in every question exactly like hers. She glared. 'That's just sad, got last place and now they're cheating. Well, I guess they are desperate.' She shifted herself ever so slightly to the right, letting her long pink hair fall 'accidentally' over his field of vision. She moved on to the next section.

"No, not math!" She exclaimed rather loudly. Her brain hurt just from the code! Every so often a scream could be heard from across the cubicles. So she wasn't the only one dreading this subject... Or maybe it was the surprise visit from Wet Willy who attempted to talk her ear off.
She did her best to ignore him and kept going, finding them fairly basic, when she came upon:
FEAR Candies
• New scarf
• Rejection stamp
• (Un)willing test subjects
• Red eye stickers

Um... Was this the faculty request list? Why is this even in here? Seeing no more math (a shrill scream sounded), she hit the third section.

Then came Human World Studies. Being a Reaper, one would think Ri knew exactly what they did, right? Wrong. Her test wasn't even legible! Even a Monster who didn't know how to use a pen could write better! There was a few diagrams that resembled humans... Maybe her test wasn't wrong after all? She read a few lines out loud to make some sense out of it:

"Daaay- Oh, Day-yay-yay-Oh, Daaylight comman we wan go home...." The page was spelled with some kind of animation magic, because suddenly the figures began to dance across her page, performing a long conga line between the words. She hastily wrote a few words that sounded like an answer and moved on.

Everything was going fine with Literature, albeit a bit boring. Fortunately, Amityville always had a way to keep things interesting! All of a sudden, a trapdoor opened up from underneath her chair, causing her to fall down the pit and lose all her time answering by climbing out of the hole.

Finally, the last section! Her hair was a mess, her clothes were wrinkled, and she had a few bruises, but none of that mattered because she was almost done! She looked down at the paper:

A bear jumps into your cubicle, what do you do?

Her eye twitched. She didn't even have a chair, and they wanted to know---
"Grr..."
'Oh, Jack!' Rhiannon jumped onto the desk and stared at the bear, not sure what to do next. It seemed content just to lie on the floor as she hurriedly wrote things down on her paper, managing to write some intelligent and legible things down and completing the final section.

Finally done, the witch tiptoed around the now snoring bear and got out as fast as possible, wanting nothing to do with any more "negative reinforcement".

Trisha sat at the table and was quite surprised when suddenly something fell on her head. She hadn't even gotten a chance to write her name down.

She woke to the trap door beneath her opening up and spent a bit of time trying to crawl back up. Was this really a test?

The managed to make her way to the paper trying to catch up on lost ground. But someone kept squirting her with a squirt gun. Stop it Willy! She scowled at him ready to give him a piece of her mind, or hoof.

Literature. Now this was easy. She smiled enjoying reading her poems and writing down about how the words reminded her of meadows and flower. Pretty good, right?

Unfortunately the lit section was the only one that she really got a chance to answer as her desk decided to eat her. She kicked the thing a few times trying to wrestle it down into cooperation.
