If Mimsy was whining like a moody teenager, then Robert was certainly giggling about it like a child. She wasn't refuting her statement, and she was just as confused and lost as ever, but nothing could change the way his heart had just irreversibly intertwined around her. He was happy to let her sit there and stutter for a while, if it meant he could revel in this one, victorious moment. He'd done this. He'd made this happen. Maybe he was a little bit of a miracle himself, when he thought about it.

And for once, he was proud.

He pulled his head back to look at her, still giggly and impish, when she explained what she still needed from him. But he was, undoubtedly, still crying. So when she asked, it made even less sense - that giant grin coupled with the big, wet tears cutting down his cheeks.

"I'm crying 'cause I've never felt so alive. 'Cause I'm happy. 'Cause you love me." That last one was spoken with just a hint of tease in his voice, as he was still very, very proud of the admission. He reached up with one hand and rubbed his eye with a fist, then did the same for the other. Now they were red, raw, and still glowing with joy.

"Of course I'm gonna guide you through it. Every little bit of it. You could ask me a million questions for the rest of our lives, if you want. Don't care. You love me."

It was safe to say that it was fortunate she didn't want to cut his heart out at that very moment. If she had, he would have ripped his own chest apart for her, just because she'd asked.

The disgruntled sulkiness had either resurfaced or never subsided at all - being teased about this, even so slightly, earned an insistent nudge from Mimsy's elbow. She would probably have been dangerously close to groaning 'shut up' or 'uuugh' had his explanation not sunk in by then, stealing her attention with apparent contradictions.

Every blank she filled in seemed to prompt her to fill in another. How did anyone keep track of this? Now crying could come from sadness and happiness and fear and what else? How could anyone possibly identify with any amount of certainty when another person was feeling something specific? This was an even more vast void of knowledge to address than she'd thought.

It was comforting, at least, that it was not only her own emotions that she could not confidently label.

But that feeling of comfort had to struggle to survive as he reassured her. She had no trouble allowing leadership positions to be picked up by other people, but putting that much trust in someone to lead her, for the rest of their lives...

Smile, swallow the doubt, and address it later. What harm was there in letting this happen for now? She should have expected him to say things like that, without knowing the projected end point of this. Letting it affect her in such a way would just be careless, especially considering the risk of more (and more serious) comments of that sort in the future. Anyway, it undoubtedly encouraged a great deal of emotional growth, progress towards that optimal moment she was waiting for. His claim that he didn't mind answering all of those infinite questions now was already quite the achievement, she noted.

She refused to think back to identify the point when she'd started taking this so seriously, when it somehow seemed less like playing a part in a game with her own rules.

"Thank you." She smiled, just like she'd told herself to, stomach tying itself in knots. "Is there anything else that you require in return, or is that need already fulfilled?"

Fair was fair, usually.

Her reaction was perfect. Perfect. Everything was perfect. A plane could have fallen on their heads at that exact moment and Robert would have thought the day was going swimmingly. Rose colored glasses was a brutal understatement for how perfect he saw the world at that moment.

He was her perfect, pristine opposite.

"I got everything I need." He informed her as soon as she asked, squeezing his arms. "Right here."

Perhaps, if he hadn't been floating so high, he might have noticed the tension in her muscles, or the way her smile looked less like those rare ones she gave him when she didn't realize she was doing it. But he noticed nothing, and took her words at face value, because his world felt too good to be true at that very moment.

And it was. It was too good to be true. And it was exactly where he chose to be.

"Okay. No more talking." He huffed out, lifting her up as if she weighed nothing and turning her to face him fully. "We got all the time in the world for questions. Let's procrastinate."

This was Robert's word of the day.

He proved his proficiency in procrastination, by tugging her chin towards him and drinking his fill of her through a kiss.
