Spectating
That was the weird thing; he used to care a lot about what others thought of him, and now . . .now it was like looking at someone who had stolen his identity: the same name and voice and physical body, but everything else was wrong. Anxiety and disappointment had been mounting on Stormy for quite a while now, and at Nevada's silence and Gale's curious look she felt that knot twist further; and after weeks of dealing with internal stress, she decided to just give in for a little. Might as well heap on more trouble while she was attracting it.
Plus, if Nevada was seriously flirting with him, it was her duty as a sister to stop her before she found more boy problems. Stormy was concerned as it was and braced herself for the result. "I'd stay away, Nevada," she told her seriously, staring hard at the battle as she dropped the uncertain pretenses; her hand in Gale's gripped tighter. "He's the ex." And hopefully that would be enough without going further into detail.
She glanced to Gale, still tensed. "Can we go now?" She wanted them both as far from Jack as possible. And Abbi too, when she realized belatedly that the Moon hunter was among them. Her grim look turned concerned, because why were people even bothering with that guy? "It, um . . . It could be better," she admitted in response.

They certainly had attracted a small crowd, though he had begun to tune them out. A few select voices made it through, of course, namely Finn's version of a cheer and Abbi's whiny but familiar voice--and hers. But he could deal with that later.
He sighed as the blade rebounded off her weapon, one hand on the handle, one on the steel as he caught it. "You know, it's rude to suddenly go quiet like that," he said, clicking his tongue reproachfully. "Not a very good power move. Boring, really. Where's the spunk I saw earlier?" And the zweihander was quickly pushed forward as he lunged, arcing at her midsection this time. Or maybe her arms. Really, distance like that between them was so hard to calculate on the fly.

Was it rude? Peyton had no idea. She lifted her brows at him, though pale eyes remained cold and hostile. Clearly he wanted her to talk, so by not talking she was denying him that small satisfaction.
Though maybe that wasn't the best idea. The sword came at her incredibly fast, and with that long reach she couldn't get out of the way in time. It took her high across the chest and across one arm, and she gave a startled hiss as she jerked away from, left hand coming up to press against the place the blade and sliced into her shield. An automatic gesture, as if she expected to pull her hand away and see blood.
<I've got you.>
The startled look didn't last long. She was glaring again before she come at him, slim blade angling up for a slice across the chest.

Nevada's form didn't change much as the information was allotted to her. Part of her was thankful that Stormy finally opened it up to her. There would be no questions for her friend, there would be no demands.
A smile cracked her face, but it was different. Like a cat that had seen something fascinating. Like a eagle who saw the fish under the water.
Her blood was pumping. She felt anger, so deep down....Part of it was at herself. The answer was so obvious in her face. Where had she gone so wrong? She had let his putrid lips touch her. She had flirted with him. And he knew, He had to know the whole time that she was Stormy's best friend. Did he think the facade would last long? Did he think Stormy wouldn't tell her? That her own best friend would allow anything to grow between them....
"It's funny how much of a turn off that is." Nevada reached over to pat Abbi on the head gently, still very much smiling. "it doesn't look like he's doing too bad, but maybe its cause he has lucky charms here." Her voice clipped before melting down warmly at Abbi. "Not all that bad Abbi. It could be worse too." She added to Stormy's comment before stepping away. "Sorry, I'm going to talk to Finn really quick."
The mist huntress turn to her best friend and leaned down to brush a kiss against her cheek. "Thank you sister. Why don't you and Gale go get prepped for his battle? I'll be there soon." the warm smile was aimed at her friend...then she huffed a breath and headed over to where Finn was. Once there, she flopped in a seat next to him and smiled. It didn't reach her eyes as she leaned back, crossing one foot over the other at him.
"You knew, and was going to let me ride and burn." She commented easily, but in some retrospect she had to laugh at herself. "For someone like myself to threaten you and then turn around and not realize he was right in front of me...What an ******** embarrassment." She shrugged. "I owe you a huge apology Handsome, for misdirected anger and guard instincts. Whether it's worth it to you or not....as well as for words said in the moment." She turned her head to look at him. "You said you wanted a new beginning, and I threatened it. There is nothing I can do to take back the words, but I can promise that I won't do anything to you ever." She tapped her foot.
"On a good note, Now I'm not in the dark anymore." She turned to Finn, "I'd like to get along. Because I like Fini, and I like Abbi and Ian and Shy. And I didn't get a chance to know you before I jumped you." She twirled with her hair, her eye focusing on Jack's form. "Bygones?"

He was being more careful now; getting egotistical invited trouble, and while his lackadaisical attitude was still in play, it didn't mean he'd allow himself to be sloppy.
Eyes narrowing in concentration, he crossed the blade as he had practiced before and was rewarded by the metallic clang as her weapon was caught between the prongs. Jack would have made a comment about the self-defensive gesture she enacted, but even he admitted to finding the whole Fear shield thing beyond bizarre. "Fine, be boring," he sighed as he turned the blade and rushed forward, trying to twist her hands and unbalance her at the same time. "Considering Suns are good for only cannon fodder, you don't need much of a personality I suppose."

He had turned to look at Stormy with a curious smile on his face, still half interested in watching the fight, and yet more interested to see what his girlfriend was talking about, because she was right here next to him.
The smile dropped away almost immediately.
"He's the ex."
A feeling like ice swept over him, cold and unexpectedly harsh, and Gale felt his jaw fall open in a terribly unattractive parody of surprise. Out of everything he had expected her to say, that had not been one of them, that had not been one of them at all, and he felt the sweeping sensation of someone who has just been completely and utterly winded.
His eyes moved back to the field, back to the tall, emerald haired young man, the arrogant stance and the careless comments, and felt suddenly, immensely tense and unsteady. Vaguely, he noticed the arrival of someone new, but Gale was still staring at Stormy with a look of stunned horror, his gaze cutting first to Jack, and then back to Stormy.
He felt like he couldn't breathe properly.
"...yeah," he said, after a long moment, and his voice sounded distant, far away, even to his own ears. "Yeah, let's get out of here."

As much as she wanted to ignore his needling comments. To let them simply roll off her back, she was finding it difficult. She was always so hot headed, so stubborn. So many school yard brawls had been started for less offensive comments. It was making her tense, brash, reckless.
Her knuckles met his blade, and when it twisted it threw her of balance. She staggered, and the sword was suddenly more then just a barrier as it bit into her shield again.
<You're going to lose if you can't get it together and focus. Do you want that?>
No.
No, she didn't want to lose. She hated losing.
With a grunt she dug her toes into the grass and pushed back, forcing the blade away from her body, and when it was far enough away she side stepped and let it go, jerking forward to slash at the underside of his arm. It wasn't a solid hit, but she felt Warrick's delight as he struck Jack's sheild.

Scientifically speaking, a dead shark evacuated the waters around its carcass pretty darn quickly. And despite her cautious optimism, Abbi couldn't help but wonder if there was a dead shark floating around. At first, she feared it was herself as Nevada gave her a tiny little hug and then rushed off to chat with Finn followed quickly by the exit of Stormy and the blonde dude. But given the mention of an ex, the teen felt it fairly safe to assume that maybe it wasn't her after all. But if it wasn't her that left... { Sneaky snake. } Abbi sighed before one corner of her mouth turned up. She stood there in the space once full and raised both hands to cup around her mouth, wanting to laugh at this odd and mysterious situation. "WHOOO! C'MON JACK. Takes more time to dye green hair than pink, you got this!" { Eh. We'll work on the cheerin'. } At least it was better than trying to think of a fact to throw out at him involving green. All she could think of were plants...

A corner of his mouth quirked at Abbi's cheer, but otherwise he was closed off to the rest of the world beyond their fight. His face hardened at the slice to his arm, though, jerking it up so that it was just an uncomfortable p***k rather than the unfortunate gouging he had felt before.
Sigh. Movies lied when they said fun banter happened almost every fight.
Deciding not to spare his breath on words for once, Jack brought the blade down, seeing as his arm was already in the air anyway, sharply changing trajectory halfway down to go for her side.

She saw the blade coming down for her, and she couldn't get out of the way in time. He was a loud mouthed a*****e, but he was a fast loud mouthed a*****e. Clearly his height didn't slow him down much. Come to that, Evan's height hadn't done anything to slow him down either.
And look how that match ended.
His sword bit into her side and she gave a small, pained hiss before swinging at his hand, glancing over knuckles with her blade before the force of his swing forced her away.
She struggled to keep her feet under her, shoulders sagging as she starred up at the giant across from her, and however refreshed she'd felt at the beginning of their match it was clear now that the entirety of the day was settling back over her.
<Don't give up. You're better then that.>

Apparently Owain forgot what "tone it down" meant now that the battle was beginning to hit the latter end of the time limit. Jack's brow twitched, his concentration faltering as he silenced his partner with a hiss and swung.

A quick jerk let Peyton avoid the swinging blade, but it carried her back too far to make any decent attempt at a hit.
Charging in blindly wasn't working so well this time around. She was going to have to come up with something else, and fast, if she had any hope of staying in this thing.
<You can do this. I know you can.>
What if I can't?
<Then you made it to the semi-finals with a jacked up arm, and still kicked a lot of a**. But it doesn't matter, because you can do this.>

Jack was coming to the same conclusions, albeit with more distance in mind; his weapon was practically her size but needed room to put its length and weight to use. Daring to keep using one hand on the normally two handed weapon, he swung again and kept his free hand close for defense, hoping to catch further attacks against his bracers.

The clanking crash of metal on metal sounded as Peyton surged forward and caught the edge of the blade with the metal bar that crossed her palm. She intercepted the swing, forcing it up and harmlessly over her, steering his arm until it crossed his own body, and then she moved in to exploit the opening she'd made.
Spikes sank into his side, low, angled for his kidney, and she leaned into the strike, ground it deep, tearing at shield and flesh alike.
She was tired, but she wasn't out of this fight yet. As much as the idea of a rest appealed to her, giving up simply wasn't in the cards. "Did you get tired of listening to you're own voice," she sneered. "I know I did."

. . . Okay, Owain, playing it safe was a bad idea. You could stop gloating now because he had other things to worry about. Namely the sharp pointy things in his side that, shield or not, hurt.
"Really? Inviting more conversation tells me otherwise," he replied smoothly because, in spite of the growing annoyance with her, he still felt like being cheeky. His counter was less calculated than it was instinctual, driving the handle down to try and dislodge her knuckledusters while backing off. "Why the sudden hostility? I thought you preferred being silent, tiny tot."
