Carmen turned her head and looked at Akiko with eyes full of burning excitement. "Well, yes, but also, I just love anything exciting. I love the act of doing stuff. I like the feeling of engaging in life and experiencing stuff there is to experience. More than half of anything I think i'd like to do; most of my desire to do them is just for the experience. It's like exploring, but not just over land or to towns. It's exploring through activity and the willingness to engage in anything that presents itself. I mean.. I don't think I'd wanna do anything dark or dangerous."
Living so long in Derya, she heard sailor tales of some who liked to drink blood or worse. She had thought sometimes to herself if she could see herself tryiing something like that. Usually though, her soul seem to repulse the idea, and Carmen was one to trust her gut instinct. That was probably saved her from the utter abyss of the consequences of being too naive for ones own good.
She just smiled at her and got up to paw around. She went to ask the humes if she could try some of whatever it was they were drinking that made them want to sing. There was a round of laughter to that, but apparently, they thought it was a hoot. They gave her enough to take over to Akiko. She screwed off the lid of her canteen and poured some into that for Akiko. "Do you want the cap or the small bottle?" She held one out to her. All the while keeping her ears peeled for any out of place sounds. She had been paying attention to every sound around them since they left Derya's gates.

Akiko took the small bottle and sniffed it. It didn't smell bad, so she tasted a sip.
It tasted great!
She took the bottle and drank some more in one gulp. She soon began to feel warm and fuzzy.
"What is this stuff?" she asked looking at the bottle, "It's so nice and warm..."
She smiled and looked sleepily eyed at Carmen. It was a fun drink.

Truth be told, Carmen had been sipping at hers as she had been walking back. It did in fact taste pretty good. She had already taken a few swigs off of it. "I have no idea. Sure tastes good don't it? If you don't want all of yours though; I'll take it."
She finished hers quickly, and within an hour of finishing it, the strength of that liquor started to kick in. Her ability to think and process sounds and sights became heavily compromised. She kept turning to Akiko and asking her. "Did you hear that just now? What do I mean what am I hearing??? Don't you hear it? I'm pretty sure I hear it. It's coming from over here. NO WAIT. It's over this way."
Finally, she hurried to the camp fire with some twigs to make torches. She passed one to Akiko. "Here. You take one, and I'll take one. We will be able to get a better view of it." *hic* Then, she started to walk with a sudden amorous twitch in her hips. She had to stop a few times to pet her own hair.
"Poor, Yi. He's so missing out."

Akiko took another swig and held the bottle close to her, "Nuh! I like my d-drink." she took another swig hiccuped, then took another swig, finishing it off.
Laater, Akiko kept looking around and huddling next to Carmen afraid of the noise she heard at last. She took on of the torches that Carmen held out to her, staying close to her. Akiko didn't like the dark. So many hurtful memories...
She didn't care about Yi at the moment, the moron was probably asleep at the moment... As they went farther into the woods, she heard the noise again. She shook her head, trying to clear her mind from the fog of the drink and looked around her.
"It better not be a spook... I hate spooks..."
She wasn't watching where she was going and tripped over a rock and almost into a log. It was a bad thing since it was a rotting log, and she freaked out as bugs crawled all over her. She danced around brushing them off shrieking silently.

Carmen had been leading. Her senses were finally starting to p***k up through the stupor. However, they were picking up all too well, and every single sound was heard. It was like a chorus of racket that just wouldn't shut up. She had to stop every few moments to listen a little harder.
When Akiko fell into the log and the bugs. OMG THE BUGS! Carmen took in a sharp intake of breath and then started to panic dancing around in circles. She threw a hand to Akiko to pull her back up. "Here take my hand!"
Then, she started side stepping back and forth avoiding some bugs while totally stomping the daylights out of the others. They must have caused at least a little commotion because the guys driving the wagons got quiet listening and then started laughing. Of course, they were such in the middle of something that Carmen wouldn't have heard them.
When she had finally gotten Akiko up, she looked down at Akiko's hands. "WAIT! Where's your torch?" Crap. Hopefully if she dropped it, it was ina puddle of water. As she was about to look, there it was. That sound again which was louder and the creeping sound of something in pain.

Akiko took Carmen's hand and looked around for her torch. She saw the stick on the ground, it's tip smuthered in water at the edge of a small swamp. Thank god she didn't land in the swamp.....
"Don't worry about the torch, it's in the swamp...."
The fog in her head was clearing a bit, and she then heard the sound they were trying to investigate. It was louder now, but still a ways off.... in fact, it seemed to be coming from in the swamp...And it sounded like it was in pain as well. Poor creature.... perhaps it needed water....
"Come closer to to the edge of the water.... I think it's in there, whatever it is...."
Akiko moved to the edge of the water and leaned forward. She could make out a small hump of land in the middle of the swamp.... Perhaps it was out there on the island...
"There is an island out there... could it be out there?"
How would they get out there? She looked around and hoped they could get out there without getting in the muck... Nevermind the muck, she wanted to avoid what was in the water....It felt pain in it's wing and legs... It had suffered an attack from one of the wild cats in the woods and had spied this place to lay on and rest. It seemed the wild cats and animals in the woods could not get to this place but those with wings. It had bad injuries and wondered if this was what dying was like. It shrieked again, more pain, more sorrow... it wished it could have lived to have it's own children....
"If only I could sleep..." It shreeked weakly as it thought that, "...no more pain..."

Carmen's nose and eyes were going on the fritz as they approached the swamp. The sound was growing louder, so Akiko was likely right. She held the torch she still had out further to see better. She could make out the shadowed opaque that was the island her friend was seeing. She took a deep breath and a swallow. "OK. Well, let's.... go in there and get this over with. We'll stink by the time we're done. I hope you know that." Then, she was pressing her feet in the water trying to find something solid to step on. Were all swamps so squishy? Gross. She was thinking ICKICKICK as her tail was wafting in the swampy waters. "Oh mans. We will so need a bath. I can feel the stink getting into my fur."
Then, they finally came around a little island made of sticks and various things. It was easy to see it might have been the work of beavers or some other rodent. "Oh, hey... look there!" She prodded Akiko and pointed to something that was twitching in a broken bush.

Akiko shivered at the feeling of ickiness as she moved through the swamp.... Oh she hoped there was some fresh water near here... Yi would not be happy about the smell....
Then she felt something brush against her leg.
She closed her eyes and swallowed her scream hard down her throat.
She then opened her eyes at Carmen's prodding, and looked toward where Carmen was pointing. She saw the movement in the torchlight, along with a wink of light from the small object.
She moved closer, the water level rising more, almost coming up to her chest. But she felt the ground move up at a slope...she was at the edge of the island.
Carmen cam a little closer and the light shone brighter reveling more of the island. She saw a large, dead, gnarled tree, moss hanging from some of the branches. Suddenly there was the noise again, weaker than before, but still the same noise. She looked towards the movement of the object, the light of the torch winking off of the creature laying there.
She then recognized what the light was winking off of.
It was a small Ka'eo.
She was no longer afraid. Because she knew what it was she wasn't scared anymore. She had seen few in her short life, but she knew what they were. Perhaps they were more common in this area of the world? Who knew? The only thing she knew was this small animal did not sound all right.
"It's a Ka'eo!" she said rushing up the bank of the small island. She reached the Ka'eo and saw the injuries the small animal had received, "Oh sweet Goddess!"
It's wings were ruffled, feather's all over the small body askew, but what made her worry the most was the red stain on it's chest.
It's breathing was rapid, and it's eyes open, brightly staring at her.
"Don't worry little Ka'eo..." she said softly. She scooped the little bird into her arms and started back to the other side of the Swamp, "We will help you...""Kind hands..." it thought. It screeched softly and closed it's eyes, "I sense kind hands and words... I must have gone to the Goddess' world." It relaxed in the arms of this kindly feeling stranger, and fell into a light sleep.

Carmen had seen a few every now and then in Derya when travelers passed through. She stood there holding a torch up to shine the way. She waited till they had gotten the bird, and she led the way back out of the swamp. "Yeah. We can't get out of this swampy water fast enough for me. It's pretty gross. I feel like I need a bath already." She then gave a quick thanks for the fact her hair hadn't gotten all in it. Now that they were calmed down; she was plenty ready to wind down a little for the night.

Akiko smiled at Carmen and placed her hand on her arm.
"Thanks for helping." she then tugged a little to the left, "I found a stream over here when looking for the berries. If you want to, you can wash some of the muck off there. I'm going to go and clean up our little one here."
She looked down at the sleeping bird and felt so bad for it. She had to hold back her feelings for now, not to hug it and hurt it further. Perhaps Felix knew what to do for it. She shook the melancholy from her with a shake of the head, and found resolve to care for this injured being.

Carmen sighed with relief once getting into the clean water. She sat down in it and started to vigorously rub her fur in it. She then took her clothes she normally wore and washed them in the water too.She looked over to see Akiko working on the bird. She observed her taking a lot of care. "Hmm.. Well, if you're gonna nurse it for now; you might as well take it with us. It's gonna need more tending to. you know?"
But, then finally, after a good hour or so soaking and then shaking the water out of her fur. She made her way back to the camp site. She hung her clothing up on a branch close to where their bags were laid out. She slipped in behind Yi, cuddling up close to get warm. The liquor having seeped its way into her senses making them hard to decipher. All she knew was a little sleep wouldn't be too bad.

When she got to the stream she took the bird to the bank and gently washed it's feathers and cleaned it of muck and blood. The wond wasn't as deep as she feared, but it was still deep enough to worry Akiko.
Akiko looked over at Carmen and smiled, "He will make it. I will not go to sleep till I am clean myself. That would be after I tend to this one, and leave Felix to watch."
She had some of the healing herbs from home in her pack, that would help, but she would have to scrounge for some before they got to Taika. She didn't spend money on things she could get for free.
She sat back on her heals and held the cleaner bird on her clean hands. She could feel it's tiny hear beating and knew the animal would be fine.--------------------------- YI was fast asleep, feeling comfortable and at ease. He nuzzled into his pillow, and felt a nice warmth radiating near him. He snuggled into the fuzzy warmth... Probably Akiko coming to bed.--------------------------- It was a long time till Akiko got to bed. Felix was with the bird, so she wouldn't have to worry about watching it through the night. She yawned and took her place near Yi and Carmen. She smiled to herself as she had seen Yi snuggling next to Carmen. She then had the thought that perhaps he had found someone for himself.
She smiled more and hoped that if that was the case, he would be happy.

It wasn't long after daybreak. The two humes came walking through their little camp out spot. They were poking each other and having a snicker at the two who were cuddled up together. "Look all you little furballs. If you plannin to ride this here wagon on any further; better get up and get on it right away. We won't wait longer than a few minutes!" Hearing the voices, Carmen's eyes flew open. She was still feeling a little hazy. She rubbed at her eyes, and then she looked around some more. Oh my. She was rather up close and personal with Yi. She sat up and gave him a gentle nudge. Then, she got up and put her clothes on. She walked over to nudge Akiko and her bird.
"Felix.. come on. Time to go.." She was having a bit of trouble walking right, but she managed to function through her mixed stupor of tiredness and the touch of hungover liquor. She found her messenger bag and backpack. She rolled up stuff and started packing up. She was quickly ready even if she didn't feel very ready.

Yi yawned leisurely and opened his eyes sleepily. His eyes went wide, then shut them quickly, the image of a the naked backside of Carmen.
He suddenly remembered the nice soft Kyresue shaped form he snuggled up to last night. He groaned and pulled his blanket up over his face. He prayed he didn't do anything to embarrass or upset her...--------------------------------------------------------- Akiko sat up holding her head. "Not so loud..." she said wincing. Ug, today was going to be a long day. She looked over at the injured bird and saw it awake. It squawked weekly and then closed it's eyes again. Akiko placed her hand on the bird gently, and closed her eyes. It would be ok, she knew it would be.
She then look at Felix who was hopping over to Yi. Akiko smiled slyly at Yi. He seemed as about as red as an apple.--------------------------------------------------------- As they loaded up the wagon, Yi took Carmen aside.
"I'm sorry if I did anything last night to make you feel uncomfortable." he said rubbing the back of his neck. "I didn't mean to do anything."
He felt his face going red, and hoped it didn't show.

Carmen of course had been busy getting everything up and into the wagon. She was about to get up there when she felt herself suddenly pulled aside. She looked at Yi a little surprised. Her eyes looked at him questioningly. "Oh, don't worry about that! Um, I mean. I don't remember you doing anything, so I think that's fine. If neither of us remember, then it's like it never happened." She ran a hand through his hair ruffing it up a little bit to reassure him.
Then she looked off to the side debating if she should tell or not. She decided in the interest of transparency and building trust with traveling companions; she'd just tell him out right. It was bound to come up. "Well, we had a little drink last night. By the time I passed out, I'm not sure of anything."
Then, she had a faint glimmer of a thought and paused to whisper in his ear. "I mean... unless you're wishing something happened. I won't be mad if you imagine to yourself it did." Her tail curled around him and fluffed up and down his front as she hoisted herself up and into the wagon. When she got comfortable, she smiled seeing Akiko with the bird.
She looked and then saw Felix. "Did you sleep ok there, Felix?"
