"They are your Parents, Otto. They raised you, that makes them your Parents." Anyone can conceive and any woman can bare a child, but that never made them Parents, blah blah all the other uplifting things that went unsaid mostly because they didn't need to be. Still, the white haired youth looked apologetic.
"I thought you knew. I'm sorry you had to find out this way."

Ripley's words were met with a scoff. "Tch." Otto tsked. The love that a child had for their parents was something Otto wasn't positive he had. His mother was around more when he was a small, cute toddler, but her work consumed her later. She never defended him against the words his father threw at him day in and out. He hated them both. He had no parents. No family he cared to speak of.
"Whatever, I guess." He mumbled afterward, shrugging at his apology. "I mean it's just one more thing to hold against them. Lying to me all my life. They never trusted me with anything."

Ripley only shrugged.
"I wouldn't say that. Maybe they just never knew how to tell you~" Which was probably true, if the chats with Mrs. Graves were any indication. "But, if it makes you feel any better...out of everyone, your parents chose you."

Otto stopped walking. He hadn't thought of it that way. They had to have chosen to adopt him, right? But why? It wasn't like they ever acted like they wanted him around. He was always disappointing them, making them angry or yell at every little thing he did. Otto didn't want to let Ripley's words sink in. He was almost afraid of letting the wound heal. Then he'd feel bad for leaving them.
So he continued to hate. "Why do you care so much, huh?" He turned, giving Ripley an annoyed and grouchy sneer. "Defendin' them like that. You always sucked up to them. All Dad ever did was compare me to you once you ******** off. Just one more imperfection to add to his ********' list."
The teen huffed and looked away. His past was coming back to haunt him, even after all the trouble he put into running away.

Ripley stood his ground, his pose relaxed as he let Otto's snide comments drift past him. Their situations were vastly different, and while he wasn't wrong on some things, he was way off base with others. Yet, Ripley recognized the anger in him, and thought it best to just let him have his say.
"I care because I helped pick up the pieces after your death." He said softly. "It has a funny way of making people say the things they wished they had while they still had the chance."
