Day: 9
Location: DESERT DESERT DESERT
Entry:

THE SAND IS IN PLACES IT SHOULDN'T BE! AUGH!
Why don't they put a lake here or something? It burns! No amount of healing magic is giving me any relief! I just want to crawl in a corner and DIE!

But, this is the desert, THERE ARE NO CORNERS! JUST SAND AND SUN AND DIRT AND MISERY!

THIS ENLIL GUY BETTER BE WORTH THE TROUBLE!

Day: 10
Location: HELL!
Entry:

Yera is one day away... ONE DAY AWAAAAY. This is my mantra to keep me sane while I complete this task. I'm almost out of water and my food just ran dry, which is a complete catastrophe in of itself! There isn't another town, except for Yera, within this area, so I can't go fill up or stock up.

If there is some sort of higher being out there in this world, please, kill me before I have the chance to die here alone.

Rastian

It was early in the morning when Rastian trudged into Yera. He appeared worn, angry, and carried a satchel filled with Firebird feathers in his arms. Tired legs wandered ever forward until he reached the center of the village where he dropped the bag and took a good look around.

"I'm looking for the one called Enlil!" He shouted. "Vescillea sent me here to give feather for bows so she could do something or whatever! AUGH, MY LEGS ARE BURNING!" He reached down to his leg were red sunburn marks could be seen, and growled. "Is there any way to soothe this pain? I'm out of practice heals!"

To say that people were staring would be an understatement. The sudden entrance of Rastian into the small town announcing rather loudly his intentions and then followed up with him screaming about how his legs were burning had many people rush forward as if expecting his legs to actually be on fire. Of course, once they realized it was a figure of speech they only looked to the boy rather irritated before huffing off. In fact no one seemed to want to help him find Enlil as they returned to their own business.

The only person who seemed to be actually heeding Rastian's words was a rather important looking man who was striding forward with a rather displeased look in his face.

"I did not realize Vescillea was sending such... an immature child to complete an important task..." Came a sharp hiss from the older man, he casually looked Rastian up and down before pointing towards a hut. "Come on, this way. I'll get someone to look after your... legs once inside." Turning, he put a hand to his forehead muttering something under his breath that didn't sound very happy before heading off in the direction of the hut.

Immature child? IMMATURE? Oh, if this guy was Enlil, he'd be in for an earful!

"I've been stuck underneath the belly of a baby Firebird for two days, got flung off the tallest mountain in Sauti by it's mother, and had to cross this God forsaken wasteland just to be called IMMATURE?" He seethed. "Listen, I don't care who you are or why you think you can assume such things, but the immature thing I could have done was tell Vescillea that she was insane and trotted back home. However, she requested my assistance and I'm not one to refuse a task from my elder!"

He followed the man into the hut, rubbing the rare skin on his legs from time to time. He had blisters in places where they shouldn't be and he was getting called immature for reacting normally to the pain they caused!

"Alright, I've got a satchel full of these feathers," He said, sighing. "Some are downy, some are properly grown and probably more useful to you, tell me which you'd like and I'll be on my way back to Sauti where I belong."

The older man almost couldn't believe his ears, half turning to look at Rastian as he ranted about his past hardships and about how mature he was being by taking on such an important task. As they reached his hut and a satchel full of feathers were presented to him the man was nearly shaking with anger. It took him a couple of minutes with his back to Rastian as he forced himself to go and gather a jar that had some herbal medicine in it for the boy's legs. He wasn't cruel, he could see the boy was in pain, but Rastian was probably not going to expect what he was about to say to him.

"You should show respect to everyone, not just your elders or the people who appoint you very special tasks to perform." He began as he placed the jar within reach of the young man. "This will help with your sunburns and any other ...'sufferings' you may have endured on your travels." The man's gaze was intense and fairly serious; there was nothing about his posture that could read weakness.

"I am Enlil," The man finally revealed to Rastian, "and I am very disappointed in your behavior," The words were heavy and hung in the air like a thick fog. There was a slight pause before he continued.

"This task you have been given is of utmost importance to Vescillea, and was required on being discreet, not shouted out for the entire village to hear. You may treat your wounds and rest for as long as you need but I am afraid I will not take any of the feathers you have brought." It was like someone sentencing a man for his crimes, though for Rastian it was merely a crime against his poor attitude.

"Take the feathers you gathered and go back to Sauti and explain to Vescillea that I will not help her if she sends me a boy who has no common sense." Enlil looked to Rastian now, looking very disappointed in the words he was saying, even going as far to shake his head before he went to leave his hut.

Rastian endured Enlil's "sentencing" and shoved the jar into his satchel. He would take the medicine, but he would not use it here. His place was in Sauti, where proper people were. He followed Enlil out of the hut and gave him a once over, before turning back for Sauti.

"Alright, I will return to Vescillea, and explain to her how incompetent you are." He replied. "If you cannot take the words I say and be a man, then you are obviously not worthy of helping her either."

He wandered forward, scratched at his legs, and sneered at his surroundings. Why couldn't he have been born half-Wind?

A sigh escaped the lips of the elder; he shook his head a bit before he moved off to find a messenger bird. Some part of him had hoped that the boy would realize how rude he was being but instead more words were flung back at him before he basically stomped away like a spoiled child.

His heart was heavy as he wrote out an apology letter to Vescillea, explaining what had happened and how it may be better if someone else infused her bow with the feather's power. After all unless Rastian could grow up and realize how immature he was being he would not help him. Even for Vescillea.

The bird was sent out, and being that it was a bird, it didn't take as long to travel as a man on foot. It arrived much sooner than Rastian could ever manage.

Vescillea was surprised; she was not expecting a letter quite this soon, taking the message from its foot and rewarding the creature with some meat before she moved inside and opened it. Her gaze slipped over the smooth hand writing and her face turned into a deep frown. A hand going to her forehead in irritation. Rastian...oh Rastian, there would be words...

Rastian's journey back to Sauti was no different than his journey to Tale, painful and agonizing. He knew that the bird Enki had sent out was a messenger, and he was in for quite a talk with Vescillea once he got back. However, he refused to slow his pace, as his goal was getting out of Tale before he lost his mind again.

He went back to where he had met Vescillea once he arrived in Tale and sighed.

"Don't bother with me any longer, I am not of any use to you." He said, before opening the jar he had taken from Enlil and using the mixture inside to heal his legs. The skin upon his legs was bright red and covered in blisters which stung as the mixture was pressed up them. Once finished applying the mixture, he removed the satchel that had the feathers in it and tied it's strap around a rock, before turning to wander back home to Mez. "I've left the feathers here. Take care."

Vescillea had just recently finished sending her apology note to Enlil using the same messenger bird he had originally sent when Rastian returned. He promptly dropped his bag, said his goodbyes, and turned to leave without giving Vescillea a chance to say a thing. She eyed him with irritation and stopped him from leaving just yet.

"Whoa whoa whoa there. What is this? You accept a request to do something and then leave without an explanation? What happened in Tale, Rastian?" Vescillea was still sitting, waiting for an explanation from the young man in front of her.

Rastian turned, his head lowered, and moved to sit across from her, wincing at the pain in his legs before looking towards her. His eyes were slightly sheepish and more than tired, almost as if he were sorry for what he had done.

"At times even I question myself why I accept requests to go to places I hate, but I wanted to at least attempt to please you." He replied. "I have never liked Tale, and I probably never will, but I can never seem to reason with myself when someone asks me to go there to deliver something. I know I hate going there, I know how agonizing the travel through that area can be, but despite my own logic, I still feel the need to try to please who ever may be asking me for a favor."

He sighed, squeezed the space between his eyes, and looked to the floor.
"I suppose if I had said something about my loathing of Tale before I left, something could have been done." He said. "But I had heavy doubts that an elder would want to change their minds, so I went with it. I apologize."

Vescillea looked sternly to Rastian as he made excuses for his behavior in Tale. He spoke as if what he had done was reasonable, and turning it to seem as if it was Vescillea who had drove him to act as a child in Tale. It was not amusing and still not acceptable.

Vescillea clenched her hands periodically, turning it into a calming motion for her; she was highly irate with Rastian and his seeming belief that what he had done was unavoidable. "Rastian..." she started, her irritation starting to leak into her voice. "If you had shown humility and responsibility while you were in Tale, you could have completed the task I had given you without a second thought." She looked down at the satchel of feathers that Rastian had secured earlier. "Your disdain for a place does not excuse your attitude toward a respected elder of the community. I had chosen you because I had heard that you were responsible and timely, as well as humble." She let the words hang in the air, insinuating that what she had heard was dead wrong.

She crossed her arms to stop her fists from clenching any longer. "How do you explain your actions in Tale?"

"It's hard to retain your usual self when you have open blisters in places where they shouldn't be and you've been walking with intense pain for days on end." Rastian grumbled. He raised his hand to his temples and rubbed them. Man, this woman was just like Natsu, expecting him to be perfect and wonderful in every condition.

"How do I explain my actions?" He gave her a rather dull look, as if his mind was slipping further and further away from reality as she spoke. In the back of his mind, there was a shred of his sanity still waving around, and it wasn't screaming about anything related to her. He needed water, he was dehydrated, and his head hurt because of it. While he pondered just how to explain himself, he reached into his pocket and withdrew a bottle, before tousling his hair a little. He paused a moment more and sighed. Oh, right, Echowen was home with Natsu, he wasn't here to help. At this realization he grabbed the side of his face and bit his lip. Okay, he couldn't leave Vescillea to get water, so he would just have to do his best with thinking for the time being.

"I'm incredibly uncomfortable, I didn't know it was a secret, this mission." He cringed, hearing his own words. He didn't really sound coherent, did he? "I apologize for my actions, even if I hate Tale... I had no right to..."

Then, from the corner of his eye, he spotted a small pool of water, and a wave of relief flashed over his features. Thinking quickly, he tied a piece of string onto the neck of the bottle and flung it into the puddle. Once it sank far enough and filled to his liking, he tugged the bottle back and caught it, before taking a sip or two. Eeeh, it tasted terrible, but it was all he had available for now.

"I apologize for that, I haven't had a drink since the afternoon before I arrived in Yera." He sighed and took another sip, before continuing. "I had no right to be so rude. I didn't have a clear mind due to my discomfort and lack of water. I understand that it may seem idiotic to blame my actions on my mental state after the journey, but I would like to argue that even as I sit here with you in Sauti, where I feel most comfortable, the only thing that's keeping me from going out of my mind is this vial of water. I feel as if it's a miracle or something."

He rubbed his temples again. Okay, he wasn't making sense.

"I got off topic again, didn't I?" He grumbled. "I apologize, I'm a failure and I should have never thought I could be a healer. My father and brothers, they're the ones that think so highly of me and I wish they could see me now. I'm pathetic, and that's okay, or not. I don't know!"

He flung the bottle back into the puddle and gathered more water for himself. Everything was spinning, his head hurt like hell, he needed more water!

Vescillea may have been irritated with Rastian and the way that his journey had gone, but she wasn't cruel. After Rastian finished fishing water from the dirty puddle, Vescillea took her own canteen from her excess of bags and straps and sprinkled some sort of dust into the clean water before handing it over. "Here: drink this. It'll take the edge off of your thirst." Whatever it was that Vescillea had put into the water was helpful enough that it would take away the thirst Rastian was feeling and re-hydrate him faster.

She sighed and rubbed her temples, not quite knowing what it was that she was going to do with Rastian now. She lifted the bag of feathers that he had collected and held them forward also. "I still need these feathers to get to where they need to go. I can't go, Missy still needs me here. But they must get to Tale where my bow is with Enlil. I have written him an apology, but I believe that you should apologize in person when you deliver the feathers correctly this time." She looked up at Rastian, making a sour joke. "At least you'll know exactly where to go this time around."

She stood from where they were sitting and eyed Rastian once more. "Take 3 days to rest, take the proper supplies this time, and go to Tale to see Enlil once more. You won't be falling from mountains this time, so maybe you can manage to be in a decent mood." And with that, she left Rastian standing there alone.

What had to be done had to be done, and there was no way around it. Vescillea's form of punishment for Rastian was to have to go back, but she was kind enough to let him rest and allow the blisters to heal before he attempted the trek again. She could only hope that Rastian was more than aware of his behavior the first time he had entered Tale.

[Rastian has to go back! You may choose to either solo out the rest period and trip, or you can skip straight to Tale, but you must include his feelings on having to go back to Tale before meeting with Enlil once more]

Rastian's muscles tensed at Vescillea's words, but he caught himself before he could argue. He was getting three days to rest, which was more than reasonable, and he would be able to gather everything he needed to be properly comfortable before leaving for Tale. Vescillea was being generous to him, giving him some of her water and allowing him to take a few days rest, and arguing with that would be selfish and rude. Now that he had calmed down and had a proper drink, he had taken the time to analyze his behavior and, honestly, he wasn't proud of himself. Why would anyone be proud of him? He wasn't even proud of himself...

UGH. This SUCKED. In yet, it was all his fault. He was the reason why he had gotten into this mess and he was the only one who could get himself out of it. He shifted his position on the rock he was seated on as Vescillea left, gazed around the area, and eventually wandered back towards home.

Viveka and Natsu were gone when he arrived, both leaving their typical notes which always gave inaccurate directions to where they had gone traipsing off to. Mycah and the others were out on a hunting trip, it seemed, when he noticed that all the bows and arrows were gone. Rastian was alone in the settlement, it seemed, a fact that drew a sigh from his lips. He had hoped someone would be here to chat with him, to help him sort things out, but, to his dismay, there was no one for him to talk to. Thus, the only thing he could think to do was sleep it all off, and trek back out in the morning despite his allotted time. Indigo hair hit the pillow with a thump and the world slowly grew dark.

Well, as it often goes with the tired and weary, Rastian over slept. However, even if he had originally decided to embark on his journey once he had woken, he found himself plagued with a fever. Wandering out into Tale with a fever would be a recipe for disaster, he knew that all too well, and he didn't need yet another disaster happening while on an important mission. He flopped back into bed and wrapped himself up tightly in the blankets, hoping to just sweat whatever it was out of his system.

When he woke, he wasn't certain of the time, or if it was the next day or not. He wandered out of his tent and waved to one of his neighbors, who clamored all about him once they got a good look at him. First, they informed him that he had been asleep for a little over two days, and handed him some fresh towels for bathing. They flailed towards his clothes, which were now covered in sweat, and told him to take a bath before anyone else caught him in such a state. He snickered and blushed, before taking the adivce and heading off to take a bath. But, as he settled into the lake to do just that, he found that the blisters on his legs had turned a bright blue color and the skin around them appeared bruised. Upon further inspection, they produced no pain when pressed and when opened, everything inside them was dead, dried, and dark blue in hue. Perplexed by what could have caused his blisters to change like this, he decided to catalog them in his log book just in case he saw something similar during his journeys in the future.

The rest of the day was spent packing his things and making sure he had everything in it's proper place before he set off in the morning. He continued to keep track of the blisters on his legs, and found many other odd things about the skin around his other injuries, too. His scars had taken on a pale blue hue, some of his minor scrapes had grown larger without reason and required bandaging to keep from bleeding, and the rest of his skin had starkly paled. It was odd how his skin was suddenly changing as well as sweating constantly from reoccurring, but short lived fevers. What was wrong with his body? Were the fevers connected to the blisters? Was he infected with something? Whatever it was, it would require more research, but he didn't have time for that right now. He needed to travel back to Tale and apologize to Enlil for his terrible attitude. He would have to deal with how he felt until he could come back home again. However, he could continue to catalog his symptoms and seek older Healers for advice if need be.

In the morning, as planned, Rastian set out for Yera. He recalled his route and avoided the spots he knew would cause him trouble, making this second journey far easier than before. However, he would have to pause from time to time to check on his blisters and manage his bandages. What once were scrapes had grown into full blow injuries, and his blisters had taken on a crystal-like consistency. Furthermore, his fevers were become more frequent, and could only be eased if he allowed his wounds to breathe every half hour. But allowing his wounds to breathe worried Rastian, because each time he undid his bandages, the wounds looked larger and more irritated. What was going on with his body? What could be causing this?

At the end of the day, Rastian was about three hours from Yera, but his wounds had begun to do something odd. The wounds on his arms had also started to crystallize, just like his blisters had done before, however, the blisters on his legs had actually fallen off! Startled by this, he collected them in one of his pouches and studied them into the night. They seemed to be made of pure crystal at first, but could be crushed like an egg if squeezed. What made them even stranger, was the liquid that one of them had nestled inside. It was dark, blue-ish, and smelled sweet and sour. That, and it had a thickness not too different from milk. All of this was written down before he went to sleep, just as another fever spell took it's hold.

Gathering his things in the morning had been oddly difficult. The growing crystals on his shoulder wounds were making it hard to move things, because each time he picked something up it felt as if his arm was being torn from his shoulder. After a while, he decided to take off his jacket and inspect his arms, and had to stop himself from shrieking. His entire right shoulder was covered in the blue-crystal substance! It was tugging on his skin and spreading like wildfire! He scratched at it frantically, only to pause again in horror as the blue-ish liquid from before spilled out of his arm instead of red blood as he had thought. Quickly, he bandaged his arms again, packed his jacket up, and raced towards Yera. Whatever was wrong with him was getting worse and his task was only hindering his ability to to the bottom of it.

Upon entering Yera, Rastian took a deep breath and cooled his nerves, before knocking upon the hut that Enlil had been in the last time he had come. He glanced to his arm and quickly wrapped more bandages around it as the previous ones were slipping and exposing his issue for all to see. Now he had to focus on apologizing to Enlil and getting his task done for Vescillea. However, his anxiety over his arm and fevers were causing him to shake, and he didn't know how long he could keep himself calm.

"Elder Enlil, if I may, it's me, Rastian, again." He called, his voice shaken. "I come bearing my sincerest apologies for offending you and causing a disturbance within the village this past week. Please, allow me to make up for it the best way I can so that I may redeem myself and carry on the path that I wish the travel."
