He nodded at Ian, laughing again before he turned his attention to Nevada and her introductions. Ian, he knew, from their Eastern shore adventures, but he waved at Dylon and Al, smiling broadly. At least he was until Nevada introduced him, and he cuffed her playfully on the shoulder.

“I have a name, you know. Shi-loh. But thanks,” he grinned, wiggling his feet at her. “I am pretty adorable.”

He shifted as Nevada called to hunter standing near them, and nodded his head at him, Bix, before following his gaze out to sea.

“Well, it was more like one giant one, but there’s definitely something out there. Is that normal?”

"I'm not cu--" Well, maybe it wasn't so bad being cute in that context? He slowly stopped arguing and just smiled at the pretty lady. "What's your name by the way?" He couldn't care less about a squid right now.

Nevada laughed at Bix's response, because she knew he was spot on. "I guess you're right, Eventually I will have to share them all at some point." Actually she did hope Stormy or another girl joined them here soon. There was Mimsy but the girl was very much into the stargazing aspect. And very much not surrounded.

"It's nice to meet you Ducky-Shiloh." She grinned. "Boots." She pointed down at them, forgetting that for a moment her left eye was covering and winked at him.

Which in the words of Dylon was a blink. her attention diverted over to Al before making a small sound. "Sorry! I forgot with all the excitement, I'm Nevada. Mist hunter." She held her hand out to Al, "I think we've bypassed each other a couple of times but never really got a chance to meet. Are you death?" She was trying to peek over at his coat. it was either death or moon by the design.

"Ah, I haven't seen any big monsters here! But I have heard stories...." She whispered, "Of a fog dragon that used to run rampant."

Listening in on the conversations at hand, Lawr moved away a ways from the group at large to sit down, not dropping his gentle and well practised smile. People seemed to take to this place with tremendous ease, and it staggered him, he was still struggling a great deal, losing weight - which he couldn't afford to do, already built like a rake - and losing sleep the longer he was trapped.

The problem of the weapon persisted, the not-canine constantly riddling his every thought with its madness to the point where he himself felt like he was starting to go a little mad.

He rubbed his tired eyes with a thumb and forefinger and tried to concentrate.

Perhaps it was the gathering of people that called Ceres, or the voices. Perhaps a little of both.

It wasn't until she approached that she also realized something, there was a significant lack of many females in the group. She was used to it honestly, there were always more male hunters than females it seemed. She had grown used to it and was steadily becoming more comfortable being 'one of the boys' in some ways. She couldn't pass the opportunity though. "Be careful ladies or we might catch a severe case of testosterone poisoning."She didn't address just anyone specifically. beaming around the small group instead. Though her words might have seemed harsh, she smiled the whole time. All in good fun.

She caught a few people looking up, Following their gaze she looked too. She knew they had very limited power and the mists were lacking, but she had not expected this. WWWoooaaaaahhhh now thats not something you saw every day. Who knew there were SO MANY stars?

"Nothing is normal here, Shyduck, haven't you noticed that yet?" said Ian mildly, nudging Shiloh's shoulder with his own. He flashed a grin at the other and then said, "Well, there was definitely something out there earlier, not sure if it's still there or if it found other places to go play in."

He glanced sideways at Al, giving the boy a mock salute.

"We having a slumber party out here?" he asked Nevada, giving her a sly smirk.

Al gladly took Nevada's hand and instead of shaking it, kissed the back of her hand, "Pleased to meet you Nevada." He pulled his head back to beam a smile at her, "Yes, I'm from death."

They were joining her and had questions! How excellent! Mimsy smiled and eagerly responded.

"I would estimate of all of the meteors that you see tonight, you could count the number that strike Earth on one hand. Most disintegrate before they pass through the atmosphere, because most of them are..." She held her fingers so closely together that they almost touched. "Smaller than this. And they are the result of debris being vaporized in our atmosphere - this particular shower is from the debris left behind by the Swift-Tuttle comet."

She laughed at the compliment, because that was the normal thing to do, but gave Shiloh a curious look when he asked the newcomer if this was more interesting than tentacles. Where had that comparison come from? That was not a particularly fair comparison anyway, considering the vast differences and uneven ground, and...

"We were not having a party that I was aware of, but we can make this into something close." And if the arrival of more bored/curious/lonely/things she couldn't guess/etc. people was any indication, maybe it would be mostly effortless to do so.

“A fog dragon? You don’t say…” Shiloh whispered, doing his best impression of looking fearfully intrigued, though he wasn’t quite sure he pulled it off. He was sure he hadn’t when Ian’s new nickname for him caught him off-guard and made him laugh, bumping the other hunter back.

“Shyduck? Is that… No, wait, I don’t want to know,” he said still laughing as he lay back against the sand. He was pretty sure he had caught the reference, but he wasn’t sure if he entirely wanted to admit to it. Instead he settled for giving Ian a push with his foot, grinning before casting a glance back at Mimsy.

“It’s a knowledge party! It’s always good to learn something new, and Mimsy sure knows a whole lot.” He smiled at her, giving a bit of a wave. “So is the uh, Swift-Turtle comet gone now? Like, is it just dust? Or the shooting stars we’re seeing?

"Ahhhhhhhh! Ohmygodohmygodohmygoooood! Look at them look! AhhhsoprettyTuuuuuck! Tuck look! Loooook!" Heidi squealed and would have run up ahead to hurry to the beach that much faster had she not been holding Tuck's hand. She refused to let it go even for a second. For now she had stopped thinking about her missing memories, the hurt she had caused her boyfriend by forgetting absolutely anything about their relationship, the condition their home was in. She would forget it all in favor of oh my god shooting stars.

Heidi couldn't remember the last time she'd seen shooting stars and she was pretty sure she'd never seen stars while on the isle of Deus Ex Machina before. It had her way too excited.

"We gotta find a good spot without like any trees or anything in our way ohmygosh this is so awesome! Oh!" She stopped suddenly at the very edge of the beach, surprised by what she saw. Mimsy! And Nevada! And..lots of people! She grinned. "This is so great! C'mon! Let's go join our friends~."

Still holding his hand, Heidi led Tuck along the beach until she could stop by Nevada and her..

...Well then.

"Dang, Nevada. You're doing real well."
PostPosted: Thu Aug 29, 2013 5:01 pm

"Oh, no! It just left a mess when it passed us." Mimsy smiled back at Shiloh, idly wondering if he remembered his alpaca and how kind he'd been to her. "It's a periodic comet, which means that it passes our orbit more frequently than once every two-hundred years. Swift-Tuttle passes every one-hundred and thirty-three. If I remember correctly, we would be able to see it again in 2126."

Her smile went a little crooked.

"Though I suppose we would have to figure out immortality before then, if we want to see it again."

A pleasant wave was offered towards Heidi, but especially towards Tuck, because he always seemed so interested in the intelligent conversations she so rarely got to have.

She flushed a little at Al before tugging her hand gently away. A prince huh? "Thank you handsome." However unlike Al, she was shy with her kisses. her attention widened at the idea of a sleepover, looking at Ian. "I would sleep out here!" Wild animals? Heat? Monsters attacking? NO PROBLEM, Nevada could sleep anywhere. "I would love to sleep out here."

Nevada's head turned up at Tuck and Heidi, smiling at them. Oh god another girl, and Ceres. Yes so nice. her brow shot up at the comment from Heidi before laughing.

"It's they eyepatch right?" She was making a joke but it instantly turned on her. She didn't know why she did it besides trying to keep it light and friendly.

Her attention moved over to Mimsy and smiled, "So they are super small, just dust from a comet?" Her eyes widened. "How often does this happen Mimsy?"

PostPosted: Thu Aug 29, 2013 5:20 pm

"Yes, like comet dust." Mimsy leaned back to rest on her elbows, smiling at Nevada before turning her smile towards the stars. "They happen with a fairly decent frequency! There were seven this year, and there will be even more next year, but the Perseides happen annually. The Perseids are widely accepted as the best, if you are someone who plays favorites with the cosmos. It is inarguably the most brilliant of them all, so it steals the show."

And it really was quite the show, especially from their location.

Power was out. Suffering was happening - this wasn't anything new, so really the opportunity to take it in stride was pretty awesome. Cassandra couldn't think of the last time that she could see the stars like this. Not on this island.

It seemed like a nice time to see how everybody was doing too. It had been eventful - not even in the good way either.

But sitting outside to enjoy the stars for a while was a nice silver lining, at least.

"Well, if we're going to be able to see something once-in-a-lifetime........" she couldn't finish the thought. It felt bittersweet somehow.
