He got pinned down yet again and he had nothing to do but flail at the beast for the moment. Tiletk even bit the claws that held him down. It was disconcerting, seeing her body flicker like this. She heard Tiletk grunting as he continued to battle with the beast. He lasted so much longer. He was so much stronger. She laid on the floor uselessly, barely there. One step from fading away.
The goddess had been right. She was merely prey.
She pushed herself up to her feet, her hands flickering as they pressed on the floor. She worried that she would just sink through, no longer tangible. But her body held fast, just enough to stand.
The axe, embedded on the floor beside her feet, however, refused to accept her tangibility. She kept trying to pick it up, and her hand kept slipping through it.
"Tiletk." Her voice was barely more than a whisper. "I'm sorry. I don't think I can.."

"No! You can. I know you can! I saw you earlier," he cried out his voice thick with desperation as he tried to continue the struggle. He wasn't going to down like this and he wasn't going to let her just give up either.

"It's not the same," She pleaded quietly. "I can't even.."
Her hand kept trying to pick up her axe, but it never worked. She even tried to come closer to him, but the moment she realized she would probably not feel him underneath her fingertips, she froze in place; her hand held up in the air where it would have met his.
"You're stronger." She assured him with a firm nod. "You can do this. You don't need me, Tiletk. You never did."
It broke her to admit this, but she kept smiling, hiding her pain.

"This is exactly the same! The only difference now is ...It is just us! We fight this together! We are... We are fighters, Fayre. I know you are. I can just ..." He struggled with the beast and he fight at it. He wasn't going to go down. He wasn't going to let it take him down. Not without...

All the determination and anger bled out of her as she watched him resurge. Everything about him looked so beautifully whole. In comparison to her, he was almost whole; but as long as he never forgot about her, she knew she'd never really fade away.
Living in his memory would be good enough for her.
She backed up a few steps, and her hand started to slide through the axe hilt again. But this time, she was focusing, and trying. If he could do it..

Tiletk was glad she finally stopped trying to convince him that she wasn't strong enough. That she wasn't worthwhile. To him she was worth everything. These moments together, though fraught with violence, meant everything to him.

And she put her all into focusing every last bit of her energy into grabbing a hold of that axe. When her fingers finally wrapped solidly around the handle, she crowed with victory, hefting it into her arms and running as fast as she could towards the beast. It had all of its attentions on Tiletk. Perfect.Her axe lifted high over her head, but her eyes glittered with a strange sort of pride as they looked at Tiletk, and she gave him a sad, but affectionate smile. "Don't forget me." Her axe came down like a guillotine, and the beast roared, its attention focused on slapping her right out of existence. Her body flickered and dissipated in mid-air, gone before it ever reached the floor. When he felt ready he ran at the monster again. He would do it as many times as he needed to, to get it to fall. Once it was down, however, it was down...
When it was gone he melted to his knees. It felt like a hollow victory just then. He picked up his loot from what the monster had left behind. Tiletk wasn't sure what he was going to do with himself just then. Would she reappear here? Else where?
Would he find her again? Death didn't seem to be permanent. It was why he fought so recklessly sometimes.

Fayre had never died before. At least, she'd never remembered dying before. Maybe she'd died a thousand times. Or maybe she'd been dead all along. When she reappeared, she was standing. She didn't know how she had the strength to stay standing, but there she remained, right behind him. She stared at his back for a moment, wondering if she was just a ghost. Then she leaned over him, her hands reaching out, and managed to pick up trinkets on the floor, while her arm slid over his shoulder to do so, barely brushing him. She was doing it to prove she was there, but she remained there because it felt good. "I probably don't deserve these." Her amused whisper hit his ear. "Don't tell anybody. Okay?"
