EDIT: His hesitation cost him, as the halfbreed's snarl cost valuable seconds that allowed his opponent to attack.
Perhaps, next time, the unlikely defender would chose a wiser course.

Cato saw his opponent and bared his teeth. Cato was bigger, stronger, and what he hoped.... better trained. His father was even more massive than himself, and had taught him well. Feeling the adrenaline course through his entire body like electricity, Cato flared his wings, bared his teeth, and barreled at his target. Bernadette would be safe, even if he wasn't there to enjoy her safety with her.
