In this world, one cannot say anything without proof to back them up.Fredrich's eye twitched. He would have to rethink his lifestyle seriously if it reminded the songwriter of Han. Then again, maybe Ellery's love for him just made him think of Han all the time. If that was the case then the detective knew exactly how he felt. " Did something happen to your sister?" he asked as he looked over at Ellery, though he had a vague answer. He heard the part Han yelled about her, albeit only fragments of his comment. Without proof, you'll never catch me.

Daniel Berry" She's dead," he answered softly, staring at the floor. " Died with my step-mother and my father the day Basil went missing. My mother died when I was two, and her parents died a couple years before. She was an only child. My father's family was alive, but they disowned me when my father married my step-mother because of her species. Basil is the only family I have left, other than Daniel now." The man sighed, becoming slightly tense. " I was about seventeen when they died, so I was allowed to live by myself until I finished academy. Daniel BerryEllery chuckled bitterly. " Regardless, I should have saved them. I could have. I was strong enough, rich enough. I could have protected them. But... but I was weak. And now, they're dead... and it's my fault." Tears finally started to flow once more, dripping from his cheeks to the ground. Daniel BerryEllery's eyes widened as he was held by the man, his hands rising to Fredrich's chest and grasping the detective's shirt. The tears flowed, the shaking, smaller male closing his eyes and allowing himself to relax in Fredrich's strong arms. " B-but... Basil... I was supposed to protect him. Fredrich smirked while picking up a cloth and using it to help him pick up the steaming pot. He swerved around Ellery and set it in the sink, drowning it with water and frowning at the steam that rose and fogged up his glasses. Daniel BerryHe shook his head, mentally frowning at the thought of Fredrich calling him by his last name. He called him Fredrich when they were alone. Why couldn't he call him Ellery? " No need. He's at the doorway." Daniel whimpered from the entrance, rubbing his left eye with his fist. " Mama, I smell bacon and drama," he said thickly, only to yawn as Ellery came over and lifted him onto his hip. " Did Daddy make breakfast?" Ellery chuckled and nodded. " Yup, he did."
