As she responded, interrupting herself to scold a Delcatty, she came back to tell him that if the headmistress asked, she'd have to tell her. Good enough for now. "I only wish to keep her from worrying about the subject I'm on. And as eager as I am to study into the stories of Caomhe beyond just rumors and mentions in the books that I've read, I'm afraid I'm looking for something a little... different. I'm trying to find books around two subjects: dealing with PTSD and it's effects, and any stories of people making their redemptions after tragedies they've committed."

He stood silently, wondering what she could do to help him, as well as hoping she wouldn't make it a point to tell Annie of his studies. "With the talk I'm doing in the auditorium soon, I want to make sure I'm doing this right..." His red eyes were on her, with an expression of hope that she could help him. If she couldn't, then everything will only be much more difficult than it had to be. "I have no interest in forbidden knowledge. Just the knowledge that can help me with my situation."

I'm afraid I wouldn't know where to find those sorts of topics," Her brow showed sincerity while her hand reached up to her cheek, both of them wrinkled with age. "This library has all sort of texts about pokemon and trainers, whether the information is current or obsolete. It has a collection of survival tips and tricks, some natural cures and camping instructions... But I'm afraid I can't tell you where you might find something quite so heavy like you're looking for. You may have to try a college or bookstore in town." Her hands folded back in front of her, keeping an eye on her Persian while it rubbed against the visitor's leg.

"There were quite a few things destroyed in the raid, most of them had a number of copies for the headmistress to recover. It was mostly the original texts, old and historic books hardly anyone picked up that were turned to ash. A few history teachers used them from time to time, comparing data and citations for the students here in the academy. Even one of my ancestral tomes was lost, I'm sad to say. I never even had the chance to translate it. Isn't that a pitty?" Like usual, Cat deviated from the topic, her mind wondering off without any direction.

As soon as he heard that parts of the library and it's contents were destroyed by Team Rocket's occupation, he grunted a little at realizing he was here for the fight that destroyed a part of it. With a disheartened look, he just sort of turned his head away, feeling the guilt again. "Right... Sorry about that..." Taku was here, guarding the captives until Athena broke out. Had he simply gone there himself to calm Athena down, the destruction might have been avoided. This only confirmed his decision never to command soldiers ever again.

After a moment, he just continued, not really wanting to face her now that he'd realized he'd helped in destroying parts of the library she cared for and maintained. "And... The other subject matter? Stories and tales and such of people seeking redemption and forgiveness? Surely something like that is in this library, right?" He really hoped that much would be here. He really wanted ideas of what to do, as well as things to work with for his little presentation coming up.

It's an old story about the priest Arsenio, and pokemon who trailed death behind them. But for the life of me, I can't remember their names!" Catelyn laughed. "The sum of the story is that one pokemon passed through and cased a great famine. Arsenio's family was starving and when he left to find food, a pokemon summoned a terrible flood that washed away his village. Arsenio vowed to destroy the pokemon and never let the terrible misfortunes happen again. But when Arsenio found the pokemon, he felt pity for them, and tried to guide them somewhere else... or did he try to change what they did? Either way, he died trying to stop such terrible power without destroying the pokemon." She wrinkled her mouth, unsure of it was all the same story. "Well the point of the story is about forgiveness and understanding. If it's something you're interested in reading, it's in the far back with all the fantasy and adventure stories."

As she explained the premise of this particular tale to Taku, he tried to recall if the story had been in his family archives. But seeing as he couldn't recall the name, it's like it was or wasn't there. Only his mother would really know. But listening to the story, he became interested and listened to where she said the book was. He bowed to her as he spoke once more. "Thank you, Miss Reeds. I appreciate your help."

He turned and made his way to where she had said the book was. After scouring the books on the many shelves, he finally found it, taking out the book and taking a good long look at the cover. He then took it to a nearby table where he sat quietly and read the book. As he did, Fliskile and Altair sat beside him on the floor, doing more meditation to pass the time.

Taku wanted to learn things and if he needed the silence to read and learn from it, then they would definitely give it to him. And after a while, they looked and saw him entirely focused on the book as he had always been whenever he read at the family home on Shamouti Island. He enjoyed reading and even more importantly right now, he was focused and not letting the voice get to him. This brough smiles to their faces as they continued their meditations.

I can Go the Distance

Marco need some time to think for himself. Everything was so chaotic these days that he wasn't quite sure how to handle things anymore. What was really getting to him, besides the problems with Iris, was that he received a called from his mother about his father's arrival to Adell. He would be arriving some time during the night so he would be here for Halloween. Marco knew that his father heard the news about his stolen wolf's fang. The wolf's fang was the item that his father gave him on the day of his return to Phoenix Academy. It was a rather sweet moment between father and son since according to his father the wolf's fang was an item that was passed down from his father and his father's father. The item was no more and Marco had no hints or clues about how to get the item back. The cloaked man had appeared and his mother made him disappear without a trace. He wasn't sure how his father would react. His father was known for a calm man, but he was only human and there were times when he would get angry. However, his form of anger was a silent anger the kind that you knew he was disappointed in you.

Niara and Iris were keeping him calm until recently. Maybe he was over reacting, but he didn't want to disappoint his parents. His mother seemed to be rather indifferent about the situation which was enough of a hint to say that 'you are on your own'. He tried to push these thoughts aside by thinking that there was probably someone out there who was going through worst times than him. It gave him no comfort and instead it made him think that he was a terrible person. In the end he began to really dislike himself and that maybe all the bad things that were happening to him was because of the bad decisions that he made. The problem was that he became too confident. He had a job where he was well liked, he finally managed to make real friends, and he was even lucky enough to have two girls who cared about him (one that used to care about him). He felt happy and that was probably his mistake. For many years he didn't feel happy, he tried to be happy, but life just didn't give him that option and instead he was feared or ignored. Achieving happiness in one year? Insanity, he was a fool for believing that.

"I can't go back," no matter how hard things were becoming he knew that he couldn't give up. He was afraid to go back to being alone and that was why he was desperate to grab a hold of the little happiness he had left. The rumors about him were getting worse and he was given the cold eyes by the students again, but he could handle that. The most scariest things right now were facing his father and losing Iris.

Marco decided to go to the Library, he needed to be somewhere quiet and he was interested to see if Auntie Cat had finished making that spell book. He hadn't visited the elderly woman for some time, but he felt like he should really go see. He was probably just looking for an excuse to distract his mind from his problems. However, he was intrigued by the spell book and the old stories that the elderly woman knew about. Her stories were like the legends behind pokemon in Mythology class. He was interested in knowing more.

The cat's out of the bag!

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Dashing around the corner of the library was a familiar brown mouse. Well, more like a rat. A rattata! It bounced off Marco's leg, tumbling back; yet nothing was chasing after it. The small pokemon fixed its whiskers, rubbing its head before looking up and sniffing the boy. It recognized him to an extent, making little noises and darting back before turning right around to n** at him for attention and darting back again.

~Meanwhile~

"Bad cat! I told you not to scratch on these things and now look! The whole shelf fell right onto you!" Catelyn scolded her persian. The cat pokemon only complained, trapped and hurting while it waited for its companions to try and lift off the shelf. "Tito will find someone. But don't you be surprised if he gets distracted after all the trouble the lot of you give him!"

Marco felt something small bumping against his leg which caught him off guard and snapped him out of his thoughts. Marco looked down and noticed a golden Rattata, much smaller than a regular Rattata (it could almost fit in his hand). The little thing looked very flustered and Marco was having a hard time remembering who it was. The tiny pokemon was trying to to get his attention. He was nipping at him before darting off acting very suspicious. A mouse pokemon in the library? Auntie Cat would definitely not like that. Marco's eyes widen, the tiny shiny Rattata was Tito, Auntie Cat's little companion friend! Marco quickly on his feet chasing after Tito. There was no running in the hall, but if it was an emergency then he didn't mind breaking a rule or two.

His chase led him to a section of the library which seemed to have a collapsed bookshelf. His eyes widen fearing the worse, but when he saw that Auntie Cat was just standing by the collapsed bookshelf and not trapped under it he sighed in relief. However, his relief was short lived because there was something trapped the shelf, a Persian. Marco rushed over to them kneeling down to remove some of the books that were getting in the way. "Auntie Cat, what happened?" Marco asked while trying move his hands under the shelf so that he could begin to lift it off the Persian.

She greeted with a plea in her voice. "Persian likes to sleep on this display shelf here in the history wing. Silly cat! I told him several times not to toy with Aohd's belongings," She detoured again, sounding forgetful and crazy (the normal thing for her). "Skitty accidentally ran into the weak leg and it was just hard enough for the whole thing to fall! It's a good thing I opted for the plastic casing rather than the glass--or we'd be in a bigger mess!" She wanted to chuckle, but felt it to be inappropriate with the given situation. "Would you please help us out? We're all too old to be lifting things--oh, but you know that, sweet boy!" Her hand went to hold her worried face.

Persian complained further, making a scene with the arrival of help. "Well, that's what you get for sleeping on Aohd's crown! He's not a kind tyrant. Not like Rei or Caoimhe, and you knew better!" Cat scolded, sounding like a displeased mother.

Marco listened to Auntie Cat as she talked about the accident involving her cats. Truly all her troubles seem to come from her mischievous cat pokemon, but maybe she was a seeker of troublemakers. He quickly went to work by starting to lift the display shelf using his legs to do the lifting and make it easier for him. He was a tall person after all so it would be easy for him to get the display standing again. However, he was concerned about that weak leg that Auntie Cat mentioned. Even if he returned the shelf to its proper place then what would pretend it from another accident occurring? Pokemon's body were tough so he was sure that Persian would be just fine, but if the shelf would have hit Auntie Cat then that would be more problematic. He removed the shelf from Persian, but decided to leave the shelf on the ground once the cat pokemon moved from under it. He kneel down again to inspect the weak leg by seeing if he could jiggled it. The leg was definitely not as sturdy at least compared to the other one it was likely that with that fall it was in danger of breaking.

"Auntie Cat, what would you like to do with this shelf? I can try and fix the leg so that its sturdy or I can take out of the Library and throw it away?" He decided to offer his help to her since he was there and class would probably not start very soon. His eyes took notice of a golden crown that was lying on the floor. He reached for the crown and held it in his hands, "this is Aohd's crown?" Marco questioned staring at the crown and its designs.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."Well," Cat smiled. "It's as close as I've found." She took it gently, setting it on a table and letting the sunlight show its beauty. It was hard to think that something so well decorated could have belonged to such a cruel ruler. "I keep translating all the texts and tomes, the best I can, but I'm not so sure about some of them." She sighed, looking at Aohd's portrait: A cruel looking man, large, with black hair and eyes like burning coal.

"Rei and Caoimhe died without heirs. Brothers and sisters and kin were nearly all wiped out in a terrible war--that much is agreed on in every translation so far! But no one seems to remember how each of them really looked. But I think I like the version you hung up for me the best!" She chuckled, watching him work at the weak display leg. "You do look a lot like that painting. It keeps me hopeful that there might still be magic in the world."

Persian rubbed against Marco, purring and thankful to be free. "Lately, I've been losing that hope. No matter how hard I look, I can't find two most important pieces to my heritage. I'm not young anymore... Some days I think I may never find Rei's fang or Caoimhe's tear. That would be all the proof I need to show they were so much more than stories."

I can Go the Distance

Marco handed the artifact back to Auntie Cat noticing her downcast eyes and softer voice. His eyes followed the picture that she was starting, this Aohd, the man looked menacing. His attention was taken away by Auntie Cat's story regarding Rei and Caoimhe, the prince and princess whose portrait he was shown weeks ago. There were no relatives left, no heirs and no one that could carry their legacy and that seemed to sadden Auntie Cat greatly. Even the portrait that was hanging on the wall was probably only part of a person's imagination and what they believe Rei and Caoimhe to look like. When Auntie Cat mentioned that he looked like the man in the painting (of the prince) she felt hopeful. Marco wasn't sure how to feel about Auntie's Cat hope because he was concerned whether that hope was placed in the right place.

Persian rubbed against him to thank him for saving it. Marco smile and petted the pokemon feeling its strong muscles. He could feel the purring through his body and it was strong. Auntie Cat was losing hope, but he didn't like hearing that or seeing her sad face. "Don't give up," Marco answered, "all your efforts led you here, right? It couldn't have been easy, but you made it work and even if it was small you learned more about your heritage, that is amazing. You shouldn't give up Auntie Cat even if things are not looking good now..." Marco's voice slowly trailed off, who was this speech really meant for? And did he have any right to talk about not giving up when he was losing hope? "I mean, that's what I think..." he finished kind of lamely, but something Auntie Cat said caught his attention.

"Rei's fang and Caoimhe's tear?" they certainly sounded like rare items. "Is that something they carried?"

"That's very kind of you to saw mister Marco," She said, baring a small grand-mother-ish smile. "But I'm afraid this collection doesn't mean all that much without those two jewels." She looked back to the far end where Liepard was sleeping under the prince's displays. "According to legend... well, a few of them: it was a common practice for a Birkita to store their essence into a token, normally in a valuable jewel. Rei sealed his into his sword--a blade he forged himself. Caoimhe manifested her essence into her tears and fastened the largest onto a chain. As you can imagine, forging something on your own as a prince or princess was rather uncommon! It seemed more fitting that they would be berried with known heirlooms. The Crown of Nu and Hammer of Perth were entombed with the last of the line to each kingdom."

She sighed, watching each lazy cat take an afternoon nap. "But Rei's blade and Caoimhe's jewel were never found, to this day. Some say I might as well look for Atlantis or Thor's Hammer--I might have better luck at that then my current search..." She sighed again, almost in defeat.

I can Go the Distance

Marco blushed when Auntie Cat smiled at him. He knew that he wasn't worthy of any praise, but he felt happy to see even the tiniest of change in her. However, that change did not last long because Auntie Cat returned to sighing sadly. Apparently, the only prove that the legend is even real is the two items that the prince and princess carried with them: Rei's Fang and Caoimhe's Tear. The items were very important and personal to the prince and princess because they created the items themselves. Certainly it sounded like a fairy tale, but he wanted to believe that it was true. He saw how fascinated Auntie Cat was with the legend, how hard she worked, and all the years she spend trying to find the answers. Marco wanted to believe that the legend was real that there was magic in the world because they lived in a world filled with pokemon. Pokemon who were creatures of legend, that's what he learned from Miss Ezra last year in Mythology class.

Auntie Cat's pokemon were already resting nearby taking their naps and making the room silent except for their slight purring noises. "So Caoimhe's tear is a jewel and Rei's fang is actually a sword?" Marco rubbed the back of his head sheepishly, "I thought that he actually he carried a fang. I know it sounded unusual to think that," Marco reached into his pocket and pulled out a picture that his mother gave him. "This is a picture of my parents," he explained while showing Auntie Cat the photo, "and this necklace my father is wearing carries a fang, a wolf's fang." He let Auntie Cat hang on to the picture so that she could see it more clearly. "I'm not sure what a wolf is except that it was some kind of ancient creature, but my father told me that this item has been part of his family for generations..." he smiled sadly, "its suppose to be passed down from father to son, but someone stole the wolf's fang from me." The truth was that his mother gave him that picture so that he could try and ask if anyone had seen a man wearing that necklace. It was a long shot, but if someone did see it then that would be the thief that stole his necklace.

Marco felt his Poke Gear vibrating so he went to check what was the matter. The alarm that he set was going off, class would be starting soon! "I have to go, sorry," he carefully took the picture from Auntie Cat, "um I'll be back to fix the display shelf after my job is over, see ya Auntie Cat" Marco excused himself and left the library in a hurry wondering why he showed Auntie Cat that picture? Maybe it was because he had yet to talk about this with anyone and he wanted to share his pain? Either way, he hoped that Auntie Cat would not lose hope and still believed in her heritage.
