(( I will add her picture later. IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT SHE LOOKS LIKE, SHAME ON YOU. >D ))

When Morag made her entrance, it was probably as far opposite dramatic as one could get. She was simply there in the midst of the group, the eye suddenly noting her sleek, dark form among all the reds and whites of her kin. When she turned her head to look over the assembled group, though, one could wonder how she had not been noticed with half of her face a scarred ruin around one jewel-bright red eye.

The spymaster was keenly curious about this mapping mission, and while she knew her watchers were nearby, she had decided that this event was one that could prove of benefit to her. There was nothing like walking the terrain yourself to get a feel for things, and she wanted to know first hand where any weak points lay that a nergui spy might use... Or that they themselves might use to infiltrate the northlands in secret.

The trip so far had been easy, though the climb had left even her well-traveled paws a little sore from the sharp rocks she had stumbled on on the way up.

Kasoro continued to walk with the group, glancing at the funny horned creatures as they grew closer. They had a bit of a stand off where both parties stared but didn't move, before the prey animals moved on. The lions weren't ready to hunt just yet, that much was obvious. They had other things on their mind for the time being.

As they approached the canyon, Kasoro was pushed to the edge. The walking path was much smaller than it had been on the open desert, and he teetered precariously for a few paces before the wall gave out. He sucked in a sharp breath of surprise but managed to land on his feet, thankful the fall wasn't that far just yet. A bit embarrassed, gazed up to the trail with a frown. At least he hadn't re-sprained his ankle.

[Gaia wouldn't give my the option to roll in the guild so I posted it in the main thread here.]

So far things were rather dry, his attempt to keep conversation to a minimum was going great and he didn't have to strain to hear Veru too much. What was more, they ran into a beautiful herd of addax, one he made a mental note to track down again at some point when the need arose.

However, as soon as the dark pelted lion reached the canyon he felt a rumble, then before he could even react the feeling of falling. "Son of a-" Landing in the sandy pit below, Fari growled. Why did he take this trip again?

Mat grinned as her companion agreed that she was excited. Yay! She stood a bit taller to impress the older cub, moving to trot lightly as they entered the canyon. "I'm Mate'moto, but you can call me Mat," she said with a grin once they pulled even again. "Mate'moto takes too long to say, in my opinion. I like when things are fast!"

She remembered her manners after a moment and bobbed her head as she saw other lions do to her mother, who was generally higher in rank than most. Since Jahina was older she held higher rank, so it was only polite. "Nice to meet you, Jahina."

Unfortunately, the bob of her head threw off her balance a bit and, as she righted herself, she stepped a bit too close to the edge of the canyon wall. A startled squeak left her mouth as she slid down the steep embankment along with two other lions. She dug her claws into the loose dirt to slow her progress, bumping lightly against the sandy bottom. Gazing up, she let out a little sigh before bonking her head on the wall of the little canyon. Great...best way to show off!

"Dang it," she muttered as she tried to start climbing up the wall. It was a losing battle, though, and she slid down the few inches progress she'd made.

Niu's gaze was darting every which way. Her duties as a guard did not cease just because she wasn't at her post. To have so many lions with them seemed unnecessary. What if they were attacked? They had among them hunters and cubs, lions she felt had no place on a battlefield. It was true they trained all their kin here, but to experience combat first hand was another matter. She didn't voice her skepticism, instead keeping her ears and eyes open.

The passing herd of prey beasts brought back memories of the rogue life. Niu stared one of the males in the face on her way by. A choice she would regret: Suddenly, a sharp rock stung her paw. She tried to be subtle about shaking it free.

Bore into his shoulder? No need. It seemed to Nono someone had gotten there first. His skull and ribs were on the outside, on his fur. His eyes the most heinous she had seen in all her days. (The latter had nothing to do with the former, but sun above those were some ugly peepers!) She spared him any questions. Long glances were another matter.

Crunch.

A sharp rock crumbled beneath her weight.

Ubawa wasn't continuing to hate things as he had been so sure he would. As the time passed, and the walking continued, he had to admit that he actually didn't hate being out in the open, away from the things that were much more familiar to him. Maybe, just MAYBE, exploring could be just a little bit fun, too.

But if Volkeno asked him, he was going to say that he was having a horrible time and he still hated her from bringing him out there in the first place.

Sighing, he approached the edge of some kind of canyon, peering around to see what worth it might have, if any. As he scanned the area, some rocks beneath him crumbled away, making him yelp in surprise as he went from standing contentedly, to sliding down the canyon-side on what quickly became a very sore butt. He hit the sand with a heavy thud, grumbling to himself as he looked back up the way he had accidentally come.

He would have to take everything he had been thinking back.

"Ubawa!" yelped Volkeno, who sauntered over as though her friend had just tripped, not fallen a good distance from the top of the canyon. She looked over the edge, staring down at the male with a smile on her face. From where she was standing, it looked like he hadn't been hurt. Hopefully the other lions she had seen slipping down as well weren't hurt, either.

It seemed the canyon wanted her to have a closer look.

Before she could react, she was also slipping down the canyon-side, her large paws unable to get a decent grip against the rock formation. She tumbled over herself, rolling down until she too landed with quite a heavy thud. But it didn't feel like she had landed on sand. It was warm, sure, but squishy and round, too. Frowning, she looked down beneath her, before bursting out into laughter.

"Sorry, Ubawa," she chuckled lightly, though seemed in no hurry to get off his back.

Jahina smiled and walked happily along with her new friend, Mat, that is, until the ground began to crumble around the band of lions. When the earth beneath her paws began to grow soft, Jahina leapt back, looking for Cyprinnus. She didn't immediately see the older lion, but she'd moved just enough for her own safety. Mat, however...

"Mat!" Jahina inched as close to the edge as she would dare to look for the cub. Jahina saw she was moving and talking, but her eyebrows furrowed with worry. Would they make it back up? She bit her lip and whipped her tail about. At least there were other, adult lions. Mat would be okay. They'd all be okay, right?

(Lawlworkateme...)

Keeping up with the group, Luut was momentarily surprised by the herd that passed. He was no hunter, so he could only stand and admire. Perhaps the beasts could recognize individual lions, and knew some of the ones who did NOT try to eat them. He stopped when they reached the canyon, staring down into it. If he slipped... That would be VERY painful, and he didn't imagine Ea would want to see his face around the wards... He began to pick his way down, stumbling on a couple of sharp rocks.

Stopping next to the big red lion, Moe looked down as well. "That is one long and painful drop..." He looked up at the lion, smiling. "Well, happy climbing, I'm not going down there!" He shrank back as Luut sneered and got close to him. "Okay, okay, I'll go down there with you! Yeesh, give a jackal a BREAK..." Giving a sniff, he jumped down, following Luut and stumbling a few times himself.

Arevik spied her cousin, Morag, as she approached the canyon. The dark lioness had healed very well from her wounds, and had, as far as the white lioness could tell, seemed to embrace the heritage Kosuke boasted that the family had. Royal blood, he'd said... Technically a LOT of lions had it, so it was utterly useless beyond making sure you didn't wed your cousin, but-- She stumbled on some rocks, having not been paying much attention to the terrain. She'd have to do better at that... Of course, the male that had looked at her earlier hadn't helped any, as her mind ran away in cubbish fantasies.

Cyprinnus watched as lions began to plummet and fall into the canyon. He looked for his ward, Jahina, and sighed with relief as she seemed to be one of the least affected when the ground gave way. On his way over to her, he stumbled over some sharp rocks, scratching his paws and legs, but he managed, using his claws for traction and his tail for balance. The water-seeker paced back and forth, looking for any easy route for those who had fallen to rejoin the rest of the band, but unable to get very close for fear of falling down and joining them, he saw no option. He turned to Veru for answers, worry in his eyes.

It seemed the terrain was not as stable as they he'd hoped. Stubbing his feet against more than a few of the sharp stones, Veru crossed over the slope towards the edge. He had visions in his mind of a handful of lions crushed at the bottom of the canyon- but thankfully, they had only fallen a few feet onto a sandy ledge. He sighed, relieved. He could only imagine what that conversation would be like back home if he'd lost half the group barely a few miles out.

"You all ok?" He called down. They were moving, and no one was screaming, so he assumed so. "Does that ledge seem stable?"

The ledge, was in fact stable. It jutted out from the mouth of the canyon quite a fair distance, and it seemed likely that the top of the canyon's mouth had collapsed at some point, lining the ledge with a generous deposit of sand. It obscured the view of most of those still on top of the ridge.

arrow "Do you see anything?" Veru calls.

If you fell off and are now down below the group, roll 1-3.

Only the FIRST roll from this group will count. If someone has already rolled, you may react to their post.

1. ... down below, you see that there's been a cave in. This part of the canyon is now separated by a wall of loose stones and sand.
2. .... down below, you see that the bottom of the canyon has been flooded. A small, but deep, pool of water drifts below.
3. .... down below, you see that the canyon remains largely unchanged.

Kasoro headed over to where the other lions had slid down, passing a pair that had even fallen right on one another. He was mostly concerned about the cub that had fallen, and he leaned down to nudge her rear to get her attention.

"All right?" he asked with a tiny smile.

Mat glanced up at her friend and gave her a little smile. "I'm okay!" she called out before glancing behind her to a large white male with very bright eyes. She nodded a bit and got to her feet, sticking close to his legs. That is, until he headed to the edge of the ledge they were currently on.

Kasoro moved away as their leader called down to him. He peered over the side, looking down, down...wow. They were lucky the ledge had been here. Or, he thought after a second look, perhaps they would have been okay. Below was water, not very large in diameter, but very dark, indicating its depth. It wasn't flowing, though, or if it was it was very slow.

"There's a pool," he called back, tossing a little rock off the edge of the ledge. It fell to the water and splashed, but there was no clunk of it hitting other rock. "Deep, from the look of it."

There was a flurry of activity as the ground crumbled beneath their paws and many of their group went over the aide. Concerned, the spymaster joined the rest in peering over the edge at those who seemed to have safely landed on something below. They were going to have to be more careful than this, or the survey mission was doomed from the start.

Hearing a call, her head pulled around as she listened for an answer. Water? That was always a precious commodity in the desert and something they needed to keep tabs on. This pool would be marked by the pride for their use, but the prerequisite to that was finding a way down to it...

Sidling around to the side, Morag looked for likely paths down to it. It was useless if it was just a hole in the ground they couldn't reach.

The jackal climbed down and edged to the rim of the water, looking into it. "That looks deep..." He suddenly found himself lifting up in to the air, red eyes going wide. "Wait, who's li-- Luut, what are you doing? PUT ME DO-- NOT IN THE WATER!" Suddenly the black and tan canine found himself airborn, the water seeming to fly below him, before it reached up and hugged him as he splashed into it. The jackal surfaced, large ears back and quite angry as he swam back toward the edge. "WHY DID YOU DO THAT?!"

If someone was going to test the waters, it may as well be someone who, while an adult, was quite small. The two-tone red lion simply grinned at the jackal, before he turned and found a disapproving glare from his pale cousin. Luut sat down, lifting his front paws up as he shrugged, then motioned at the water. If the jackal was okay, surely the lions would be okay!

She could only shake her head at Luut, before looking at the water. A white paw stretched out, before she batted toward it. "Well, nothing reached up and ate the jackal--"

"WHAT?! YOU DIDN'T EVEN KNOW IF SOMETHING WAS IN HERE?!"

"So it must surely be safe for US to swim..." She watched the jackal climb out of the water, shaking his black fur off. "Feel better now, Moe?" She couldn't help the grin at the look he gave, before she looked back over to Veru. "Should we brave swimming it?" She, too, dropped a stone in, watching the water ripple.

Moe scrambled back up and sat down next to Luut, ears down and fur sopping wet. The jackal was clearly more than a little irritated. "Throw another lion in next time, not ME!"
