"Patience, patience," he said, leading the way. He walked with a commanding confidence: long, graceful strides; still silent due to his paws, and with his wing up, his red eyes peering around in multiple directions.
He turned to look at her when she mentioned her name. It look him a beat to catch that that's what she meant. "My name is Naberius," he answered back simply, leading her away from the Flock territory.

Vanrui frowned when he told her to be patient. She didn't want to. Her ears flicked for a moment, before she sighed some, and flicked her ears up, listening to the sound of the birds making loud noises over head. She paued, staring up toward the trees for a moment. Watching as they flapped their wings and screached at her, as if telling her not to leave.
The mare stared for a moment, nostrils flaring, before she shook her head, and looked back toweard Naberius, watching him. She stared around at the tree line, marked by Harpy scratches that held the edge of the territory. Gritting her jaw, she moved forward, and past the boundaries, before her instincts shouted at her to go back. "Naberius... Interesting name." She stated simply.

Naberius could sense her unease and stopped to watch her, waiting patiently. He took a deep breath of the air, smelling the faint marks of other Soquili. "My father gave it to me," he said. "He says it an Old Name, though he was never very good of explaining what that meant. Does your name mean anything in particular?"

Vanrui blinked at him, moving easily now. The first step was always the hardest. She breathed out a gentle sigh, and let her eyes flutter for a moment, relaxing as best as she could, before her tail gave another small flick, and she glanced toward him with a sideways stare, before grinning some, and tilted her head toward the tree lines up ahead. "Beautiful Huntress." She said, her voice a soft purr of a noise, eyes strong.

"How appropriate," he said, looking straight ahead but with an enigmatic smile playing across his lips. "What's your favorite quarry?"

Vanrui's eyes flickered for a moment, staring toward him. She thought for a moment, before shrugging her shoulders. "I hunted a bear once... small one. It was interesting, though the mother came by soon after, so I wasn't able to continue. The favorite I've actually hunted and killed was a fox. Tricky little fluff balls." She said, laughing. "And yourself?"

Naberius smacked his chomps in distaste. He was half fox, and the idea of eating one didn't feel right to him. His ears flattened against his head but he didn't say anything. He pondered the question in his head. "Nothing too exotic" he said honestly. "Young deer or antelope seem to be the best return on the hunt. Though when I'm bored I prefer to track down pheasants...they are sweeter, but more feathers than meat. Still, its a fun challenge in its own right."
He rolled his shoulders, "Hard to imagine little you taking on a bear. Impressive," he said with a grin.

Vanrui glanced at him with a light laugh on her lips. She let her eyes flutter for a moment, before looking forward again, tail flicking gently. Her nose wriggled slightly at the thought of eating a bird. They didn't usually ever eat birds. They were seen as siblings in the Flock; where as to her, wolves were also in that aspect.
Her ears perked for a moment, before she nodded her head curtly. "I suppose it would be. I was young, and stupid. And no one would help me, so I just did it by myself. Until the mom came around, and then... well." She shrugged her shoulders.

"I've never had to take on a bear, but I'm fairly confident I could, if I needed to. That's another advantage about not having a territory - no need to protect it." He shrugged, continuing their trek into the deep woods.
Sometime later, he looked up at the sky through the trees...it was getting late in the day and it would be night soon. Not that he minded much hunting by moon, but it had been an eventful day, and prey was very active during the twilight hours.
He stopped and put his nose to the wind, taking some deep breaths. The deer would be out, grazing. With a hunting partner he could easily best even the largest of bucks. "Time for dinner?" he asked, looking back at Vanrui.

Vanrui nodded lightly toward him. He seemed like a large, capable stallion. If anything, he could take on a mother bear and at least wound it; since it meant to kill anything that got close to the cubs. She shok out her mane with a grunt, continuing to follow him.
When the sun was setting, and the darkness started to settle, Vanrui found herself a little more uneasy. She glanced back toward the territory, before shaking her head and continued forward. Her ears flickered for a moment, before she glanced at Naberius. Her eyes flickered for a second, before she smirked at him, tail flicking again, the feathers shifting at the movement. "I'm game. What are you wanting tonight? Deer? Bear?" She grinned at the mention, laughing.

Naberius chuckled, and to be honest he was tempted to comply. "No bear tonight," he settled on. "Too heavy. But deer sounds wonderful. Something you can really dig your teeth into," he said with an anticipatory growl.
He grew still and very quiet, lifting his muzzle to the breeze. "Why don't you take the lead. They are close, probably around the bend. You can come from the front and drive them back here, where I'll be waiting."

Vanrui glanced at him, cuckling as well, before she nodded her head in agreement. Her tail flicked again, before she ducked into the brush, and started her slow pace around the corner, and toward the front, hiding in the bushes. Her ears perked up, and she kept herself low to the ground, not wanting to alert them. Her lips pulled back in a snarl for a moment, before she calmed down, and watched.
As the minutes ticked by, she located one that was moving a little farther away from the small herd of deer. Her smirk returned, and she moved slowly, before surging forward, barking and howling, growling, her teeth snapping. The buck startled, rearing up and kicking his hooves, before turning and running straight for where Naberius was, away from his herd. Vanrui moved after him, hot on his heels, snapping her fangs toward him.

Naberius seemed to fade into the shadows. His eyes on his wings closed and he dropped to a deadly silence as he listened for the quarry. Vanrui seemed to be effective and talented, as it wasn't long before he felt and heard the thundering hoofbeats of a sizable buck rushing towards his location. Wound like a spring, he waiting until the perfect moment.
As the buck rushed by his tree, Naberius shot out as if from a canon; lurching himself towards the buck. It was an impressive sight, his wings flaring out to further confuse the animal as his teeth landed firmly on his jugular, and his claws whipping up to clutch at the shoulders and chest.
The deer pitched forward, falling to the ground and began to flail.

Vanrui continued to chace, snarling and snapping her sharp fangs. She heard Naberius before she saw him. Her ears snapped up, and she side swepped to dodge getting hit by a flailing limb. As soon as the buck was down, she surged forward, careful not to get hit by the stallion or the buck. Her fangs snapped for a moment, before she got her way to his throat, and bit down at his windpipe, yanking somewhat and tugging at the flesh. She jerked her head to the side, attempting to cut off it's breathing all together; a move she had learned from her father.

The buck's flailing her erratic and desperate, the scream in his throat dying as Vanrui ripped out his windpipe. It was hopeless now. Naberius as opened an artery in his neck and now the smaller but nimble one had rendered him unable to breathe. It wasn't long before the life was completely drained out of him, and the two predators could claim victory.
Naberius dropped the lifeless deer's neck and licked happily at his chomps, tasting the hot blood on his lips. "What parts do you want?" he offered to the female, his tail held high with triumph.
