"That's true." She said with a smile. She knew Steg better than anyone else. They had been such close friends as foals, hell she had a crush on him even back then but had assumed it was just young love an that it wouldn't last, and even now she always gravitated towards Steg whenever anything needed to be done or if they had some time off from their duties and digs. As Steg guessed why they hadn't said anything for so long she couldn't help but smile wider. "That is exactly what kept me from saying anything. I was so worried you wouldn't feel the same way. We were both fools." Fools in love but blind to that fact, yup that summed them up. Cera couldn't help but laugh. "I'm sure they had given up hope by now. Won't they be pleasantly surprised when we get back and tell them."

There was no denying they were both fools thinking the other one didn't or wouldn't like they. They had been so close their entire life it would have taken something very big to keep them apart in the end. But now that they had admitted their feeling, Steg planned on keeping Cera close and spoiling her rotten to make up for all these months when they weren't a couple.
"You know," he began with a sly smile on his face. "We could always return back to the herd a day apart and pretend like nothing new has happening, just to mess with them." It might now work, but it would be fun. "Or we could act like we had a fight at the dig and not want to talk to each other for a while...that would really throw them off" He let out a laugh, but even he didn't think that would work entirely.

"Steg, you're crazy." She said with a laugh. Sure it would be fun to keep them guessing or make them think something happened that tore their friendship apart, but she didn't want to do that. Hell, she wanted to rush back to the herd and let everyone know that they finally got their wits about them and were a couple now. But they still had much to discuss and then there was the dig to finish, and only then would they be returning home. Nope, the big surprise would have to wait at least a few more days.
"How about we just tell them the truth. I'm sure they are all expecting it at some point, and I'd rather tell everyone right away anyways." And then certainly there would be a celebration. The herd always celebrated when a new mated couple was announced, but in this case it may be a bigger than average one. "But before we do anything, we need to talk some more. Most importantly, I need to know if you want a family one day. I love you a lot, but not having kids would kill me."

Steg let out a dejected sigh that was all fake. "You're right, we should tell them as soon as we get back." He didn't really want to make everyone think they had a fight, but that was his goofy side sneaking through again. Good thing Cera understood what he could be like in times like this or else she might get offended by some of his crazy suggestions.
"I agree. We need to talk. I've known you all my life, but there is still things about you I want to learn and certainly you will want to know stuff about me as well." Her question was a serious one, and this was one of the times he would not joke around. "You have nothing to worry about Cera. I would love to have a family one day, especially if it means that you will be the mother of my children. It's not something I want to rush into, but in time I would love to have lots of children and to teach them the ways of the herd." Their children would be adorable, there was no doubt about it.

Cera was more than thrilled to hear he wanted children one day. And she smiled widely. "Another generation of diggers in the herd." The herd had been such a wonderful place to grow up in and it would be so wonderful to share that with their future children, passing on the knowledge of previous generation and keeping the digger traditions alive and well. "And you're right, as much as we know each other from being together since we were foals, I know there are things that we still don't know about each other...it's these things I want to find out about before we tell everyone else." It wasn't something they could find out in one conversion, since some questions might not pop into mind just then, but over time they would get to know each other completely and that would propel their relationship forward.

A smile crept upon his lips as he thought about that. Their children, if and when they happened, would be the next generation in the herd. With luck they would have lots of other foals in the herd at the same time that their children could play with. Even if there wasn't, Steg knew their future would have grow up well loved and full of happiness. Nodding at Cera's next words Steg thought about anything she might not know about him already. "Well since we are sharing all our secrets, you should probably know I don't like beetles. They totally creep me out, especially when they come crawling up from the dirt in a dig site." He couldn't help but shudder at the mere thought of them.

Initially Cera laughed. She knew Steg had a habit of joking about things, especially whenever a conversation turned serious, so she figured this was just one of those times. Of course her laughter faded when she saw the look that he gave her. Giving her head a shake she questioned him. "Seriously? Beetles bother you?" This was something she had never expected. Sure, it could be a bit weird to see a beetle come crawling out of the dirt near a bone, but she didn't think that was something to be creeped out over. They were just doing what they do best, and it was the diggers fault for disturbing them and forcing them to move someplace else. "I've never seen you react to them before."

Steg gave Cera an unimpressed look when she began to laugh. When she finally did stop he couldn't help but sigh. "It's true. I really don't like them. The first time I found one as a foal when my father was teaching me how to dig I ran away as fast as I could." It had been embarrassing even back then, but more so admitting it to Cera now. "I force myself to not react to them when others are around, but if I'm alone at a dig I give them a wide berth until they leave."

Now see, this was something she hadn't known and might not ever have known had they not admitted their feelings and begun to talk things over. "Well..." she said with a slight laugh. "Now I know your secret." She didn't mean to laugh, it wasn't all that funny, but she just couldn't help it. Here she had been thinking this secret would be something big and possibly affect their relationship, but instead of was a minor thing. "You don't like beetles, I can live with that."
They continued to talk throughout the day, getting to know each other more than they had before. They spoke of dreams, fears, challenges they faces and what they wanted in the future. For the most part Cera found that Steg's future ideas were very similar to her own. Coming from the same herd was likely part of that. They wanted to continue on with the herd traditions and raise their future children in that environment. Noticing that the sun was fading Cera called their conversation to an end. They had likely only covered the tip of the iceberg, so to speak, but they needed their sleep. Curling up beside Steg Cera gave her mate a loving nuzzle. "I'm glad we had the chance to truly talk this over. Tomorrow we can return to the dig." She knew he would be anxious to get back and find any other bones that may be there. Closing her eyes, Cera drifted off to sleep pressed against Steg's side.
