Carmelia Roto

Race: Magic Earth Human

Age: 17

Bio: Carmelia grew up in the town of Altaponte in Southern Occulas, famous for its Highpoint Bridge. She was born into the Roto family and was lucky to be adorned with attention from her peers and successes of her parents.

During her time at school she became good friends with a girl that adored fashion and art. It brought out the best in Carmelia, who was struggling to find herself in her family that overshadowed her. This girl was called Fleur Pétale. Fleur and Carmelia became best friends and soon began to do everything together. Carmelia even began designing her own clothes, and refused to use any of her parent's money in respect of Fleur, who came from nothing.

One day, when Carmelia and Fleur were together at Highpoint Bridge, Fleur threw herself off. In a panic Carmelia jumped off with her, without even thinking, and hoped to save her. Once she felt the weightlessness of herself falling she saw everything move more slowly. In her moment of panic she unknowingly discovered her Manifest, the ability to divide herself. She saw herself and Fleur falling from multiple angles, she could see what everyone else saw. A friend trying to save another? Two people hopeless? Unfortunates to get caught in the wind? None of that mattered, she had to save Fleur - she couldn't lose her! She meant everything to Carmelia.

Onlookers saw the doubles of Carmelia, one at the top of the bridge, looking down, another over the river, leaning over the wall, staring off. There was a third beneath the water, who noticed that the water was too shallow, another falling from above them, a fifth sat on a far away swing. They all offered Carmelia another viewpoint, another angle to observe. She continued falling and propelled herself forwards with a burst of magic, such force that brought her shooting towards Fleur just as the girl turned to face her. All the doubles of Carmelia then began to cast magic that shot out to help save the girls. Water rushed towards them, attempting to make the water deeper and less lethal.

When she Fleur landed she was plunged into a torrent of water, and as Carmelia followed the water had already began to disperse, she would hit the shallow water. But when she closed her eyes she felt her body hit a wall in front of her, and as she opened again she saw the river before her, the bridge above and all around her were screaming people who watched two girls fall into the river. Carmelia was confused, who was she here? She rushed out into the water, swam as fast as she could - but she was too late. Fleur drowned.

Ever since, Carmelia has been haunted by the time she failed to save her friend and has devoted her life to becoming a sorceress.

Manifest: Divide & Conquer. Carmelia's magical powers manifested during a heightened emotional event in her life. This ability lets her divide her consciousnesses into up to 5 other copies of herself around a focus point. Whilst this Manifest is active, if her original self is to come into harm, she is automatically pulled back together at the location of one of her doubles.

Name: Maverly Asche

Guild/Organisation Affililation: Castayu Del'yir & Asche Agricultural Estate (AAE)

Student: No

Age: 32

Race: Half-elf (Magic Earth Human)

Allignment: Lawful Neutral

Home Location: Asche Family Estate in Shard.

Occupation: Previously Ambassador of Asche Agricultural Establishment. Now she travels the world hoping to help where she can.

Extra Information: Maverly considers herself a mage, like her father. She also considers herself a representative of her father's company and carries that pride with her wherever she goes.

❖ Calder Asche (Elf Father)
❖ Alette Asche (Human Mother)
❖ Aber Asche (Deceased Brother)
❖ Roswal Asche (Younger Brother - Asche Family Heir)
❖ Emilia (Former Magic Tutor)

Personality/Strengths/Weaknesses:
❖ Maverly is a prideful, independent and mentally strong lady with a lot of character to show. She will always present herself well and is mortified by anyone that approaches her distastefully. She presents herself like a rose, but her thorns can prod and cut, like her insults or unwillingness to indulge with others she doesn't perceive as worth her time. Her upbringing has led her to be a mixture of expecting to get what she wants as well as knowing that she needs to work hard for what she wants. Its a misconception that many often judge her for before getting to know her. Maverly prefers to keep to herself and doesn't usually go out of her way to interact with people that she doesn't need to. She lives by family traditions, expectations, personal laws and morals that are paramount to her life, breaking them or disrupting what she's organised is detrimental and chaotic to her. Beyond her icy wall, she's actually a warming person, seeking friendship and understanding. Her difficult relationship with her younger brother is partly to blame for this, and the loss of her older brother is what has caused her to isolate herself.

Strengths:
✔ Confident
✔ Well-spoken and presented
✔ Knowledgable: All those years of reading aren't wasted, it's just a matter of actually using that knowledge.
✔ Horse Rider: Maverly is an excellent horse rider and can usually make friends with other horses or mounts.
✔ Dancing and Singing: Years of etiquette forced on her by her father have made her quite the dancer and the singer, only when she wants to, however.
✔ Magic precision: Maverly's knack for magic and mana is favourable thanks to her heritage, and her etiquette classes (and others) have made her precise.
✔ Money: Maverly doesn't usually have to worry about money, thanks to her father's business, that doesn't mean that she always has access to it though.

Weaknesses:
✘ Stubborn: Asche is stubborn and cold towards new people, preferring to keep to herself, often proving difficult when making new friends or allies. She prefers to be impressed and then make friends.
✘ Family in Distress: Maverly's soft-spot is towards families that are suffering, or almost any individual who is suffering at the hands of someone else. She doesn't pity those that don't help themselves, however.
✘ Her young age as a half-elf makes her somewhat naive at times.
✘ Maverly can be quick to anger, which often limits her magical capabilities and concentration.
✘ Any talk surrounding her brother is a sour subject, it will end in an angry Maverly or a sad Maverly.
✘ Confined spaces: Maverly's magic often requires enough space for her to move to create spells.
✘ Perfectionist: Maverly sometimes wastes time attempting to be perfect in her execution.

History:
❖ Maverly was born into the Asche family, most known for her father's reputation just outside of Marlusia, Shard. Her parents are Alette Asche, a normal Human of Asmodius and Calder Asche, a Elven mage of Shard. The two met when Calder came to Asmodius with his father on a business trip. His father had been a farmer for a long, long time and wanted to extend his trading relations and connections, much to Calder's suggestion anyway. Alette and Calder quickly fell in love, and it wasn't long until Alette was migrating to Marlusia to live and work with Calder shortly before his father's death. Calder made his reputation and earnings after developing his own father's ideas. They were agricultural plans that soon boomed thanks to the funding from Alette's father, who was a member of the Royal Table. Calder considered his agricultural model something to be praised and protected, since it was comprised of various magical spells that ensured a good and bountiful harvest. Calder was a genius when it came to mana manipulation, and followed the patterns he'd learned in the natural evolution of mana in the world to perfect his gardens and fields. He would often hire knights from Asmodius to protect his land, mostly to keep up good relations with the neighboring realm kingdom.

Maverly was born some years after Calder's taking over of the family land and it's earnings. As a half-elf she aged differently than others she knew of but that didn't bother her because rarely did she meet anyone outside of the Asche family or their closest friends. She was never an only child, either. Before her came her brother, Aber. As the first-born son of the Asche family he was to be the heir to the Asche family name and by the time Maverly was born he was already learning everything he must in order to represent the family. The two of them grew up through most of their adolescent years as best friends. Together they were put through classes after classes in etiquette and magic to follow their father in his mage footsteps. There was a time when they had a friendly rivalry, attempting to better each other to impress their father who always had a close eye on them. They were born into a time of great proliferation in what was now named the Asche Agricultural Estate.

As they began to mature at the end of their teen years Maverly had loved to read and hide herself away in the family library, only coming out when she had to or when she wanted to go horse riding. It was during this time that she began to spend a surprising amount of time with her magic tutor, Emilia. Her father was more than cautious when it came to assuring his children's safety and their behavior, and so out of the several knights he had hired he would pick unlucky individuals to keep watch over Maverly and her habits of solitude in the library. As the days went by, weeks even, she grew tired of their gazing and interference with her reading. She asked Emilia to teach her divination of a specific skill tree, one that would allow her to manipulate doors. Emilia regrettably refused however, saying Calder's expectations did not include that school of magic. So, Maverly took it upon herself to learn from books. After some months she was able to put her master plan into effect and begin her reputation as a solitary, confident young woman. After collecting all of her mana and resting well before she began the spell that would allow her to connect the door to the library with any other door in the mansion, thus, giving the illusion that the library had vanished unless you found the correct door. The only person who could see through this was Calder, not even her mother could get past it.

At around the age of 18 her brother, Aber, fell severely ill. At first she would stay in the library, too afraid to see him and face the reality of his illness. She had shelves upon shelves of re-organised sections, piles of read books, to-be-sorted books, useless books in the section at the corner of the room and must-reads placed out neatly at the front. She used her time to research what she could about her brother's ailment and it was all for nothing. Only then she spent more and more time at his bedside, remembering the times they used to play and compete, when they had time for each other outside of their lessons and tasks set by their parents. She had told him she wished she did not spend so much time in the library... Everything changed when Aber's condition got worse and doctors gave the word that his illness was terminal. This moment shook her world - all this time she thought she expected to see Aber become the owner of the company, she would help him whilst going on her own endeavours. But now... it was falling apart. He had only just started officially joining their father on business trips the year before, everything was great.

When Aber died it felt worse than anything Maverly had ever experienced. Once she had thought that Calder's strict regime for her and her brother was too strict, was harsh and unforgiving... but that didn't compare or prepare her for saying goodbye to her brother for the very last time. Books couldn't solve everything, she learned that the hard way. She had gone to her mother for support, giving up on residing at her father's shoulder when he became distracted by work. "How could he move on so quick?" she asked, "why is father so cold?" and Alette's reply was only "everyone deals with pain differently. This is your father's way." Maverly asked her mother what to do and she learned a new lesson in life. Alette was the type of woman that would do anything to survive, she would do anything to secure the well-being of her children and her own life for their sake. Unbeknown to Maverly, part of the reason she married her father was a general assurance that their children would grow up with a good life, that she herself would have a good life, and at the same time she would have someone to love. She told Maverly that she must do what Alette had always done... "endure." The world, she told Maverly, was cruel, and it had not the room for withered flowers. So she must remain strong and push through.

Maverly began to take horse-riding more seriously from here on out, using it as a means to distract her from the death of her brother. She also took it upon herself to learn evocation magic as a means to make herself stronger. What was the use of delicate and beautiful magic if it was just for show - something her father would never understand. Lessons preparing her as the new heir to the Asche family name became more strict with the rest of her now busier schedule. This time gone-by turned her cold and sufficient, but it also made her strong. She began to sing on behalf of her father as a means of making her father proud and representing the Asche name in public. She also began to learn how to run her father's business and how the world worked and how everybody else interacted with her family - and what it meant to have a status. She did not enjoy it, not really, but she did it because she had to. There was a day when she confronted her father about all the tiresome responsibilities he placed upon her and Calder was equally cold and supportive in his reply. "The world has no place for wilting flowers" he said, "it's sad but it's true, this world is cruel. Smile and wipe away your tears. Make the world your oyster, and you'll become a pearl." His word's became engraved in her mind, they were strangely like her mothers too. It made her work harder and harder for what she wanted to achieve. Finally, she began to understand her father's cold attitude - he must have experience tragedy and loss, or seen what it was to lose everything.

Everything changed again at the age of 21, when her parents had a new child. Another boy. His name is Roswal - heir to the Asche family name. Maverly was not sure how to feel. Half of her was happy to know a weight had been lifted from her shoulders. The other half of her felt like she had been stripped of all her worth just because of another boy in the family. It was not a quick transition, but slowly she knew Roswal would be the next chosen and not her as soon as he was old enough to make his own decisions. Calder would much prefer an heir to be trained from a younger age than Maverly was. It was only 2 years after this time that Maverly became Calder's ambassador, representing Calder on trips instead of him actually going and Roswal was officially announced heir. At 26 Maverly began to travel more on her own terms. She wouldn't return precisely when her father ordered or would purposely get tangled in other affairs.

She learned a great many new things and became more aware of the world around her which she was not taught. Military, for example. Though almost obsolete in Marlusia she had to question why they ought to rely on another kingdom, her father never used guards from Shard City. It was also during this time that she visited libraries beyond her own and personal interests caught the better of her. She got engrossed in the darker, deeper parts of knowledge, very specific chapters and only small amounts of an index giving her anything she was looking for. The penny dropped when her hunch could almost be real. She was researching magical illness. The kind that was inflicted, she always wondered how her brother who was so healthy, yet could die so young, especially for a half-elf. She tried bringing this up with her mother, but even Alette wasn't going to accept any of Maverly's ramblings. Maverly never thought to bring it up with her father, Calder would be more harsh than her mother ever was. So she took it upon herself, a personal quest to determine if her brother died by chance, or intentionally.

Nearing Roswal's 13th birthday the Darkness fell over the world and the Underworld spilled over Shard, spreading demons and hatred. Maverly personally helped defend Marlusia to the best of her abilities, and following the bloodbath her family became pivotal in regenerating the land of Shard and feeding the people of Shard and its towns and cities. This was just one more proliferation for Calder, which also pushed him to make Roswall's lessons advance further, finally giving Maverly her much needed freedom.

After being Calder's Ambassador for several years too long Maverly has now realised now was the time for her to discover herself.

Thus, her journey has begun.

Preferred Magic and/or Weapons if any:
❖ Maverly's only weapon is her riding crop, named Gleam. Its handle is made of gold plated metal, embedded with blue diamond at its pummel and its length is made from wood native to Shard for its strength and flexibility. She uses this in combination with her body language to cast spells that help herself with summons or enchantments, or to send devastating long range attacks at her foes. Her magic is a mixture of her innate elven abilities, drawing power from the Earth, and arcane abilities she has been taught, drawing power from Magic Earth.

Signature Spells/Attacks/Techniques:

Summon Air Sphere: With this ability Maverly summons a spherical barrier around herself from the elemental plane of air. This can be used to protect herself or those close by for a small amount of time. The more she concentrates the longer she can defend herself from before it collapses unnaturally - resulting in nausea.
Sunset Missile:Namef for the colour of her magic, these magical missiles are projected from her riding crop or hands. These missiles don't cause devastating damage but are enough to warn off threats. The missiles are cast in groups of 1-3.
Sunset Cascade: Maverly sets up a flurry of magic missiles, often in a ring before releasing them to shoot outwards, homing towards a target in her line of sight. This ability is far more powerful than Sunset Missile.
Sunset Lotus: At her command, Maverly concentrates her magic into a singular spot and shoots a 'seed' to a target location in her line of sight. When the spell hits it grows a large flower bulb of raw magic. As the bulb grows it causes the air around it to spiral out of control before finally blooming and exploding. Depending on how much power she puts into it, this can be devastating to its immediate surroundings.
Summon Walking Armour: With concentration Maverly can produce a single familiar in the shape of walking armour in the form of magical sunset-coloured aura. The walking armour cannot venture too far from Maverly or it is dismissed, and it is utterly under her control. The summon comes in two different forms, depending on what Maverly desires at the time. Defender or Attacker, one with a giant shield or one with a giant sword. (Once expelled or destroyed this summon must recharge for an hour)
Summon Birds: For a hasty distraction Maverly can summon a flurry of birds to ascend from the ground around her, letting her make a quick retreat.
Summon Stag: At Maverly's request she may summon a great stag spirit for her to mount, making long distance travelling much easier for her.
Decimation Web: This spell absolutely must be channeled. Maverly can expel most of her mana to create a web of magical wires around her in all directions. The spell is initially mana costing but is relatively stable once created. If any living person or creature is to touch the web they cause a magical explosion. In most cases Maverly uses this technique to keep people away from her less they want to get hurt. As a spell of her own creation, it barely (physically) hurts herself.
Conceal Door: With around an hour of preparation and incantation Maverly can cause a single room of a building to be concealed. Maverly must have already seen many other doors in a single building for this to work, and must have them memorised to some extent or the spell will not work. The larger the building the more difficult and time consuming this is for her to create, unless she knows the building extremely well (such as her home). Once activated, this spell swaps the door to the room she is in with another somewhere in the building. Someone on the outside must find the correct door in order to find the room she is within. For a small cost of her mana, she can adjust which door is the right door, she can readjust this whenever she likes whilst inside the room. Maverly cannot keep this spell in place whilst outside of the building. She also cannot change the 'correct' door when not inside the room itself. (Can only be used once per day)

❖ Her formal dress is a variant of her original outfit, becoming a long fitted dress that hugs her frame, without trousers, and instead has stiletto heels. The dress is cut down one side to reveal one leg.

Guild/Organisation Affiliation: None

Student: No

Age: 31

Race: Magic Earth Human

Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

Home Location: Albanoch Desert

Occupation: Bounty Hunter

Extra Information:

Personality/Strength/Weaknesses: Focused, almost disciplined and without a doubt, extroverted. Mathilda has an intelligent and creative mind, but one must be careful for she is very cunning. She could be seen as bossy, and is mainly passive aggressive. Mathilda is a serious, and honest young woman, but not that either of these may be used in the best of times. It must be known that Mathilda is not good neither is she evil. She's very much neutral, and depending on how things will effect her, and even the world around her, she will take a side.

History: Mathilda grew up in Eastern Europe, as the daughter of a Psychic and a Sorceress. Her mother travelled as a popular medium, clairvoyant, psychic etc, for the non-magic folk. Mathilda learned much from her, growing to be as skilled as her mother. Growing up, she would help her mother with setting up shops when they were not travelling, and would entertain guests as they waited for her mother. Sometimes her mother would tell her about Magic Earth, a place of great magic and freedom for magic folk. But always, always, her mother would remind her it was dangerous. She knew that her mother was from there, from Albanoch to be exact, but she could not glean more than that from her. Sometimes, rogues would find Mathilda and her mother and attack without reason. She told Mathilda that these assailants were of Magic Earth, and that they would never stop looking for them. When she asked why, her mother would simply say it was because she gained her freedom, and that they were jealous. In her late teens she began to enchant weapons, and chose a Zweihander as her weapon of choice. Her magic made it lighter and easier to use so that she could protect herself and her mother from anyone that tried to hurt them. It came in surprisingly helpful in the black markets used by magic folk. At 20 her mother gifted her with a family heirloom. The 7 Glass Sins were a set of enchanted blades that reflected light like mirrors. She then left her mother's side sometime after to explore the various realms of magic that exist worldwide, searching for artefacts of power and knowledge where ever she could. Meanwhile, her mother finally struck a deal with the Occult for protection, and suddenly she became obscured from the eyes of the rogues. Mathilda no longer had to worry about her mother's safety.

Her goal was to become a strong, independent sorceress. She had a thirst for power and was afraid of become powerless. She wanted also wanted to find out who the rogues were and defeat them once and for all. After a time she discovered a way to finally gain enough power that would grant her safety, respect... and fear. With her mother's help, they put together a plan to outwit Death himself. In a daring encounter amidst the deserts of Africa, she challenged Death, offering a deal: if she lost, he could take her soul; if she won, she would gain the power of Death's Shadow to aid her when needed.

They battled for hours until exhaustion set in, with Death appearing to have the upper hand. However, Mathilda proposed an intriguing offer to Death, suggesting that with his shadow, she could assist him in his duties, effectively making his job easier. Despite her persuasive argument, Death refused and attacked. In a swift move, he pierced her chest with his scythe, but Mathilda revealed that her soul was not within her body but safely with her mother, rendering Death unable to claim it. Her then found his neck surrounded by 6 of her floating daggers, poised to kill him. Although, she knew nothing would truly kill the personification of Death itself. She revealed however that she could contain him here. Realising he couldn't kill her, and that the two would be locked in a never-ending, Death reconsidered her deal. Death then disappeared in a burst of dark magic, leaving his shadow behind. Mathilda's mother then returned her soul and 7th dagger. She then found herself in a unique position, almost working alongside Death as a vanquisher of deathly threats.

Her latest quest has brought her to the heart of Magic Earth, where she has sensed a dreadful shift in the underworld. Something was disturbing the very essence of Death, and for the first time since their initial encounter he physically appeared before her. The two, by this time, had created an amicable friendship. She would occasionally dispatch of souls which he could not harm, and he would protect her mother. She has now been in Magic Earth for several years.

Likes: European music, fire, reptiles, those with a respect for their surroundings and curries, she loves curries.

Dislikes: People that challenge her superiority, or who call her vain.
