Shirtless Werewolf

With his scent covering most of the second floor he darted through the halls in hope he wouldn't be fallowed. He ran to his most used apartment, the carpet destroyed over the years with his untrimmed claws. The couches near rumble in state lay knocked over near the door for a quick (but forgotten) barrier. He moved quickly into the large bedroom and through the broken window. He struggled a moment through the large window bars but slipped through and flew up the creaky fire escape up to the roof.

He paced the perimeter of the roof trying to think of an escape. He didn't know how to fight, he had gone his whole life avoiding fights, staying away from the altered. Having Colt near helped mask his unaltered scent but there was something different about the small scent he got down stairs. Panic started to set in and he paced faster.

Trying for escape he lacked safety judgement. His eyes caught the roof of the neighboring building. His mind was ready but his body was caught off guard. His mind moved faster than his legs could carry him and he leap off the edge ungracefully. His front legs grabbed onto the lip of the roof and he clung on for dear life. Hind legs kicked and tried to push him up but he wasn't strong enough.

The strange scent of the Altered was everywhere; it must have been lurking here for quite some time. The carpeting was well ripped claw marks, but something was bugging him...

He slowed his chase, his nose confused amidst the conflicting scents. The stench of Altered was easy to confirm, but something was different, something off, something familiar-

What his nose couldn't tell him, his ears could however; the faint sound of scuffling was working its way upstairs. Taking a lesson from Frost he switched to a more stealthy approach-

The footsteps continued up the ruined and derelict building; several floors off the ground by now, he reckoned.

Finally the former human homes disappeared till they were in the maintenance part of the building; it must be near the top floor. Jarek gave a grim smirk. Nowhere left for it to hide.

Strange, from what he could hear, it almost seemed as if the Hunter was pacing back and forth...Suddenly there was an abrupt loss of sound, followed by a distant yelp.

Forgetting his stealth, he barged up the steps, slamming open the door into brilliant daylight.

It took him a moment for him to get his bearing till movement caught his attention; a wolf-like shape appeared to be dangling helplessly from the ledge of a nearby building.

He armed his cannon ready to fire but suddenly stopped. This wolf did not have the mutation of an Altered, and now in the brisk highwinds, the smell of Altered had been swept nearly clean away-

Witha running leap he flipped almost cat like in the air before landing directly in front of the desperate wolf; the roof cratered and dented slightly from his impact as he let the muzzle of the arm-cannon point directly between the unknown wolf's eyes. "Who are you?" Jarek demanded with a snarl, orange eyes burning like fire.

Rail almost lost what little grip he had. His more fatty body weighted him down and he was getting tired. He looked at the strange metal wolf with his ears flat against his head. "rr..rail.." he stuttered after a moment. Unsure what the wolf would do he braced for the strange metal arm to go off and him pass into the darkness. He was unsure if he should just let go, fall to the ground and try to escape that way. What if this wolf fallowed him again? Yeah, he knew the city well but he wasn't fit for a chase.

He let out a slow breath as he awaited his fate.

Jarek glared suspiciously at the rather overweight wolf; he was definitely not of natural birth, if the unusual fur and the horns were any clue. His grimace was not changed, though slightly releived he did not appear to be an Altered.

He saw the body lurch as the paws began to lose their hold on the roof's edge- Faster then the potential threat could react too, the metallic paw shifted to a much more humanoid form; the fingers wrapped around one of the desperate paws.

With a grunt, he flung him none too gently back to the safety of the rooftop, sending him sprawling, but he allowed no time to recover. He was on him in an instant, one paw resting on "Rail's" prone form to keep him from rising, the other unnatural arm shifted once again to a weaponized form. "What are you doing here? What's your story?" Jarek growled lowly, eyes narrowed as he continued his "interrogation".

Right as Rail went to thank him for the help the wolf was on top of him questioning him again.

"I came from the city north of here about 4 years ago, I think it was 4. I don't remember now it could be five. I escaped the labs when the humans started falling to the altered things. Back then I was in training to be an 'Elite city guard' or something. Like they, they wanted me to go fight those thing!. I was training with my father and he told me about what was happening. I lost track of him when we escaped. He went to try and save his younger pup, said he'd meet me here... Guess they didn't survive. The creatures though! Some of them listen to me!"

He got excited and his tails wagged slightly behind him. He didn't push to get up but relaxed a little under the paw.

The pup chirped from within the bag. The actions taken place had made her slightly dizzy and she wanted to see what was going on. Were they in a new place yet? She squiggled and squirmed within the pack until she was able to pop her head out and look around a bit. There was someone on the ground and she chirped out to say hi before looking around and seeing all the strange buildings.

Jarek was taken slightly aback by the wolf held under his paw. Didn't he feel any fear? Either he was arrogant, brave, or very stupid. Still, he didn't seem anything Jarek wouldn't be able to handle. He felt movement at his back and gave a hard shrug of his shoulders to nudge the pup back. Best to keep her out of sight for now, till he had confirmed this strange wolf's identity.

Ever so slightly he shifted his weight off the suspicious interrogate, his face still somber as he listened to the wolf's narrative and taking a few steps back. The cannon mount of his mechanical arm clicked back into place, out of sight."Listen? What do you mean?" Jarek rumbled lowly, watching his movements in a less quality precision his former leader had done.

His story was unlikely, but not impossible. North had been the direction he had come and he for a fact knew that illegal genetic modification and other ominous research had been conducted. It wasn't impossible that this fellow was from the same city...

Eyeballing the rather chunky weight he had to snort a bit in his head; whatever position he had been created for, he certainly didnt look like he would be able to fill now.

"What do you know of this city?" Jarek continued.

Without the weight of the other wolf pushing him down he rolled over rather awkwardly and turned to look at the wolf. He knew he was no match for this wolf and his heavy form wouldn't help him try to run.

"I've wandered around most of the city and know where all the food is. The altered creatures don't seem to bother with the human food much. I can lead you almost anywhere you want to go." he paused for a second as he realized the only way he got past most the altered was with Colt hiding in his fur. The thought of Colt sent the message down the mental link and brought the bird twirling through the air. The white bird stayed overhead and didn't go near the new wolf. It could sense the tension in Rail about him.

Rail glanced up at the bird, "That's my friend Colt." He spoke easier now figuring the wolf would probably kill him if he didn't cooperate. "My name is Rail, don't know if I said that yet or not. Hey do you have something alive in your bag?" he asked as the backpack wiggled again before the wolf shoved his shoulder to stop it.

Something was wrong with the bird. He squinted at it, frowning. Something felt off, but he couldn't figure out what...

He eyed the young male before relaxing his pose further. "And so what, you've just been holed up in this building the whole time? How did you traverse the city without the Altered getting you?" His eyes didn't leave the bird.

At the wolf's questions, his ears laid back and he growled. "What I got in my bag is none of your business. Just show me how you've been getting around safely, and I'll be on my way." His mind was working fast about whether this fellow would be an asset or a hindrance, whether a competitor for food or a dangerous foe. His flaming desire to protect the little one was in full-force. Best to keep her existence secret awhile longer.

Rail contiuned to blabber about but stopped when the wolf asked how he stayed safe here. It was clear to Rail this half machine wolf was from a lab like him. Certainly he wouldn't be able to send him back to the cold buildings. "Well, I was created so the humans could control the altered." he spoke slow and felt unsure about admitting what his 'powers' were.

"When the altered first attacked they began a breeding program which my father told me about the little time I knew him." He began to perk back up and speak a little to fast. "It was a extension to the pretty pets or something My mother I guess was a top line elite fancy guard My father was one of the few lone assassins They felt that combining a pretty pet with assassins would create something able to better fight this monster within the city just in case of an attack I was the first born of them and I had a sister but I only seen her once. I'm sure she died by now. They tried to kill us all when we refused to defend them." He scratched at a spot just below his horns. "Thankfully my father's devil bloodline kept me alive and I was able to escape. My father came to help me while mother went to find her new pup. Anyway I can in a way influence them to change there mind set but its not that easy I was never trained but kind of self taught myself how to get around I found Colt and he has traveled with me ever sense but we stay in this town pretty much I know where most the horde creatures are and when its only one or two its easy to get around them."

Jarek paced as the rather dumb-seeming wolf prattled on, trying to absorb the key information. So it seemed he was a telepath or something like his old teammate Marta had been. That was something to keep an eye for and be cautious about; he always did have a certain wariness of the mind-benders. More importantly, it seemed he was familiar with the movements of the Altered in the city. It would be useful to keep him around, heck he might prove useful or at least not entirely helpless.

In a show of good-faith, the cannon in the shoulder of his arm whirred away. " So you can control Altered to an extent." he tapped a paw thoughtfully. "Fair enough."

His stomach growled hungrily and his ears flattened in embarrassment. He had been trying to conserve what food he had for the kid and as such had barely eaten anything for himself. "Got any eats?" he asked as nonchalantly as he could with a cough.

Rail moved to his all fours and looked at the wolf oddly. "Eats? Yeah there's a ton of stuff in these buildings if you don't mind human food." The pudgy wolf shrugged his shoulders before he moved for the stairway door. They where on the roof to the next store apartment buildings but he knew there would still be food around. "I haven't gone through this building very much, I don't know what Altered might be in it." he admitted shyly

The pup had had enough waiting. Her legs ached with energy and her jaws began chewing on the confinements of her baggy. "Unkil!" she barked as she turned withing the bag. She was small but still her body pushed against the metal objects confined with her, they clinked together but didn't ignite.

Bored and overwhelmed with energy she pushed through the top of the bag to look around. Unhappy to see the buildings she pushed to escape the bag. "Unkil, bored." With some struggle to miss his grabbing jaws she finally got to the ground. Once her paws touched the gravel roof top she took up. Running around the edge of the building until she couldn't run anymore.

When her energy lowered she dove into the gravel kicking and rolling getting dirt and dust all over her.

"Glass!" Jarek roared, keeping one eye on the still potentially dangerous stranger and the other on the boisterous pup. As he tried not to panic. There was a snarl and a snap to his voice as he loomed over her; he stood protectively over the pup and gave a growl of warning to Rail not to approach.

After it seemed his warning was very much gotten across, he turned his attention back to the little pup he had pinned under a paw. "Glass," he growled. "Get back in the bag." His eyes flashed with a mixture of worry and anger that made it clear he was not playing.

Glass gave a pout-face and looked to the gravel again. "But play," she said as a small tin bottle cap flipped into the air and she darted off to catch it.
