"I forget not everyone knows that word," Cait said, closing her other eye as well even though she hadn't been asked for it yet. She did her best to keep her expression even, so as not to accidentally mess something up in her makeup.
"It's Japanese animation," she explained, "it's kind of got a distinctive styling, so it's seen as its own category." She explained, rather amused. Anime was her bread and butter, as it were, and she could talk about it forever. "There are all kinds of different genres, and there's quite literally something for everyone."

Mystery blinked a bit. "So why don't they just call it 'Japanese animation'?"
"...people like to shorten things if they can, Mystery... you should know that..."
Then again, now that Carolynn was thinking about it, this was the child that used a nickname that didn't shorten her name by any means.
The child blinked again, but then seemed to snap herself out of her confusion. "Soooo... do you have pictures of any of the things you've made? Are you sure they aren't good enough for anybody else? I mean, I have heard artists tend to be harshest on themselves, so maybe what you think is bad is actually really good?"
With a couple more strokes of the eyeliner brush, Carolynn interjected "You know... if she does have photos, she probably won't be able to show you until later, Mystery, sweetie."
"That's okay, I can wait!" she said with a small grin.
"You know... Cait... sometimes I do teach classes on makeup classes... if you find you like what we do here... we could talk about it when we are done shooting your photos."

"Well, yes, like your mother said, it's a short form, a little easier." Cait replied. She smiled a little when the girl asked about pictures.
"I have some, actually, just not with me." She explained. She'd done a few photoshoots, at cons and at home, and she was rather proud of at least a few of her outfits. Besides, she looked good enough in them that she felt comfortable making them everyday wear.
"Oh, classes? Well, I can definitely think on stopping by for one sometime," she agreed. A class on how to do dramatic, pin-up makeup? Yeah, that could only be really really cool.

"...really? Not even on a cellphone or anything?" For a child who always had a camera at her fingertips (thanks to her phone), it seemed odd that someone wouldn't have pictures of themselves at hand.
However, her momentary confusion seemed to disappear completely as Cait mentioned a possible chance she'd take a class with Carolynn.
"Ohhhhh!!! If you take a class, I will be there too!!! I never miss a class Mom runs! So many snazzabam* people show up for the classes... I don't usually get to see them after the classes, but they seem to learn a lot about how to do the smoky eyes..."
Carolynn giggled a bit. "You do not need to brag, Mystery, sweetie! If Cait wants to show up, she can show up. First she needs to decide if she even likes the style of makeup I do." With that, the woman gently placed a thumb under the green haired girl's chin.
"Okay, I am going to help you open up your eye... it might be a bit stuck, but don't panic. Go ahead and open your eye slowly..."
The youngest of the group quieted down immediately and leaned in much closer, intent upon watching her Mom's method for loosening up the glued lash.

Cait once again had to keep herself from laughing at Mystery's enthusiasm - and her enthusiastic jump from one subject to the next. She did smile though.
"I'm sure it's very remarkable," she said, and then, as instructed, she began to slowly open her eye. It was an oddly uncomfortable process, but she took slow breaths to keep from freaking out. It was normal, after all - and she had just had glue put in place right above her eye, it was no wonder it was a little sticky.

Carolynn didn't hesitate to wistfully tucked her fingers in close and delicately prod the eyelashes into getting unstuck. She had been in the industry long enough to know how to so such things without poke someone's eye out in the process. Eventually she pulled away her hand once she was certain the lashes were fine.
Mystery sat there, grinning. "You get to do that another time you know!" Maybe Cait had a look to her when it came to the whole eye-opening thing, or maybe Mystery just liked to tease anybody who underwent that portion of the procedure.
Carolynn sighed a bit. "Yes, but hopefully it shouldn't be all that difficult now that Cait knows what is going to happen, yes?" Not that Cait had been difficult at all. If anything, her own child was being more difficult just by instigating things today.
"You look sooooo good right now... too bad you can't see it yet!" The child was still grinning.

Cait fluttered her eyes a bit once they were open, and she smiled. "I'm sure I look wonderful," she agreed, and then she sighed. "Hm. The eyelashes are a good thing to learn, actually, and now if I ever do it for a cosplay, I'll remember!" She said. Remember to open her eyes slowly, and to have help. There were certainly plenty of characters with long eyelashes.
"I'm excited to see the finished work!"

Seeming content with her current work, she placed a hand upon Cait's shoulder, tapping her fingers in a rolling motion a couple times. "Okay, now go ahead and close the other eye and we can attempt to make quick work of that!"
She twirled around to go grab the second set of lashes and eyelash glue.
Mystery, on the other hand, couldn't help but tap her own chin in thought. "It's very different having someone else put the lashes on for you... versus doing it yourself. It's easier for me to have the lashes put on me by Mom... rather than me doing them for myself..."
With lashes and glue at hand, the woman spun on the ball of her foot and patted her child two times with the heel of her hand. "It's different for everyone, Mystery... maybe Cait will find it super easy to do it herself, instead of having some woman she's never met putting them on her!" With a teasing wink, she signaled to the client that she was ready to resume work.

Cait nodded and closed her other eye. It was a little easier this time, since she already knew what was coming. It was actually kind of exciting - long eyelashes were sexy and mysterious, and that wasn't a look she often had.
"Well, I can always ask a friend, if it is too hard for me alone," she acknowledged. It was hard to imagine doing this for herself.

The second eye didn't take very long, but by the time all the makeup work with it had been finished, Carolynn let out a little sigh. "You already have such curly hair, Cait... I don't think I need to do too much work with it." She let out another sigh before turning to her table towards a series of bottles and curlers. The woman began to look through the series of hair supplies, as if trying to find the right one for what she had in mind for the girl's hair.
"...so... Caaaaaaiiiiiiit...." The child had her eyes practically upon the one opened hazel eye. "Do you have a favorite color?" It seemed like an innocent enough question coming from the child.

"It's either perfect or horribly frustrating," Cait said, "depending on what I need it to do." It was nice to know that her hair fit well for this particular style, though - not having to do things to it was a rarity, and so a pleasant surprise.
"Favorite color?" She blinked slowly and considered. "Purple. Dark purple, really." Colors were hard, since there were so many - but she did love a deep, rich purple.

"Purple is SNAZZABAM! I have a dress that is purple and is super duper pretty... but I don't think it'll fit you!"
With a pat upon the child's head, Carolynn mentioned "I would hope she couldn't fit into an 11-year old's clothes, or I'd be kind of concerned she wasn't as old as she was telling me!" With a wink, she meandered in and sprayed a sort of white foam into the palm of her hands before smoothing it into the green locks. "Well, for what I'm doing, I think your curly hair works fine! This will just smooth the hair out so there's less frizz... then I'll just pin it up slightly different from what looks like your normal style."
"Mooooooom... do you plan to use a purple dress for Cait?" The child leaned in close, as if to hear a whispered response.
"...actually, I think I have something else in mind..." Her tone was quite mysterious and teasing. However, before the child had a chance to pout, the woman asked "...so Mystery, would you be willing to help me get Cait's lips prepared?"
With an excited squeak, the child seemed to scamper to the table and quickly grabbed something before moving back to scoot her stool closer to Cait's face. "Okay, hold still for a bit... this won't take too long!" The child held out a small makeup brush with one hand and a tube with the other. Quickly she squeezed a glob of transparent goo onto the brush and soon enough was shoving it at Cait's mouth.

"I'm small, but I don't think I'm that small," Cait laughed. She relaxed a little. Antifirzz products were deeply familiar to her, as were most straighteners and such things, since she used them often enough. She nodded, definitely smiling.
"It'll look amazing, I'm sure," she said, and then there was a makeup brush at her mouth and she had to try not to giggle. Wow, this really was going to be the whole experience!

Once the clear goo was spread out on Cait's lips, the child explained "Well, this stuff is a primer... and then I get to put color... but Mom might do that instead... I don't think she'll take too long picking out clothing for you..."
"...and you'd be right to think that, Mystery!" The woman chuckled a bit as she seemed to glide past the chair and stool with several items at hand. She had a pink dress with black trim, a pair of black heeled shoes, a black bow-belt, and a pink decorative silk flower. She set the items down, careful to steer clear of any patches of feline dander lingering about.
The child took a glimpse and seemed to recognize the strategy her mother was using. "Oooooo... complementary colors!! Okay, I like this!!" The silvery haired girl hopped off her stool and seemed to retreat to the side to leave room for her mother.
With a subtle laugh, the pale haired photographer returned to her post, seeming to casually swipe up some bobby pins in the process. "...alright, let's get your hair done, then I'll let you get the dress on before I do your lips. Sound like a deal?" She already had pulled out a hairbrush and began to play around Cait's bangs.

"Oooh, okay," Cait said. She was fascinated with the whole makeup process, given how rarely she wore it herself. Getting all dolled up was a very unique experience for her.
Her eyes were drawn to the clothes, and they practically sparkled with eagerness to get into them. "Oh my gosh, those look so pretty!" She said, though she tore her attention away and back to Carolynn so that she could answer the photographer. "Sounds like a deal to me!" It seemed like the shoot itself was definitely fast approaching, and she had to keep from wiggling in her seat with excitement.
