Lark clambered off of the bike before pulling the helmet off of her head. Her hair was a mess, but she didn't mind. It wasn't really something she ever thought much about.
"Y'brought snacks? An' a blanket?"
If she grinned any harder her face might break.
"Pfff, y'look fine."

"Yeah? Well you look a mess," he said with a little grin as he reached up and tugged a strand of her hair. "An' yeah, they come in handy," he said, getting off as well after kicking the kickstand down. He dug out a black and purple blanket, then a bag of snacks, before turning to the only tree in the field. There was a small area under the tree where he stopped and laid out the blanket, dropping down on it and digging through the basket.
"Got some candy... chips, couplea bottles of choke, churros," he listed as he pulled the things out. "Help yourself!"

Lark swatted at Roch's hand, her nose wrinkling as he tugged at her hair.
"M'starvin'," she grinned as she collapsed on the blanket next to him, reaching for the chips first. Cracking open the bag, Lark stuffed a handful into her mouth before chewing noisily.
"This's nice," Lark fell back to her elbows. "Ought'a do this more often."

"Yeah, it is," he said with a content look as he grabbed one of the churros and started munching. The breeze tugged at their clothes and he watched silently as the pale sun started going down. It was... nice, he decided. Peaceful. "If we did go on a roadtrip... which way would y'wanna go?" he asked her.
He was actually seriously considering it. He wondered if she realized that.

"You pick," Lark took another bite of chips. "I don't really know th'area like I prolly should," she continued, setting the chips aside as she moved to rest on her back.
Tucking her hands beneath her head, Lark peered up at the tree overhead before finally closing her eyes, a big smile still on her face.
"Never really been on a roadtrip, neither," she shrugged, a shift of her shoulders against the blanket. "Can't miss school, so if w'go, gonna need t'be on vacation'r somethin'."

"True," he said, finishing off a bottle of choke and summoning his guitar. He tuned it absently, looking thoughtful. "I'll think bout it. If nothin' else, we can go on a weekend camping trip. There's some decent spots we can get to in a half a day or so." Absently he started playing a mild song, leaning back against the trunk of the tree.

A weekend trip sounded wonderful, and Lark merely hummed a happy sound at the thought of it. "M'sure we'd have a lot'a fun."
As Roch started to play, Lark rolled to her stomach and kicked up her feet as she rested her chin in her hands and listened to the other reaper play.
Lark wasn't sure if the day could get more perfect.

Roch was thinking. It wasn't something that really showed on his face, mostly because he appeared to be focusing on his guitar, but his mind was whirling. This--this definitely could go the way of being "too serious" he realized. Maybe Lark didn't, who knew how much she and Kettil had done? And that very question was none of his business to begin with, he thought-- But weekend trips, takin' her to prom (even though it wasn't a date--it was just... walking her, right?) What in the hell was he thinking? Absently his fingers picked out another song by the same gruetube artist, mild and relaxing, even as his mind was going "ABORT ABORT ABORTTTT" at him. The contrast was completely ignored by him. He was going on with his inner argument-- He could absolutely trust Lark not to think it was anything other than friendship, he swore. He'd been flirting with her all morning and all she'd done was sock him in the gut a few times, right? So he was safe! And... somehow that thought made him feel really pathetic at flirting...

If Lark had any idea that Roch was fighting some sort of internal war, she didn't show it. The fact of the matter was that she'd fallen into a similar silent argument with herself, though her train of thought had careened off into another direction entirely.
She didn't want to hurt anyone. Things with Kettil hadn't ended well, and though they'd made peace with one another, she didn't want to do the same thing to Roch. Lark liked the punk, liked him a lot, liked flirting with him, being silly with him, liked the way he could make her blush - but she didn't want to hurt him.
Being friends felt safer. Way less complicated.
And it was really unlikely that Roch thought of her as anything other than a friend. She was skinny and leggy with no curves to speak of, and he was wild and adorable and probably had a million ghoulfriends. Though he was crazy and spontaneous, he was safe, and that was nice.
Folding her arms on the ground, Lark kept silent as she rested her chin on her arms and merely watched Roch play.
She liked this. It was so uncomplicated.

Plus, she followed him on Critter, he thought, cheering up. That meant she knew he had a pizza date with Mia planned, and a bbq convention with Marosa--but did Marosa count as a date? Who cared? He had no doubts he'd be setting up other dates on it--it was too easy to pass up! So he was definitely not on her list of prospective boilfriends. Because who wanted to date a guy that had a different date every weekend?
"Okay, it's drivin' me jackin' crazy," he said, looking at her and digging through his pocket. "It might not bother you, but if I take y'back lookin' like that a lot of creeple are goin' t'think we did somethin' other than a jaunt on a bike," he told her, letting his guitar dissipate and patting the ground in front of him. "Sit here, back to me."
He pulled out a shining silver comb and a couple of black ribbons. What? He'd gotten in the habit of doing Terra's hair whenever she let him!

Lark narrowed her eyes suspiciously at the boil before she did as he asked. She had never had anyone else fuss with her hair before. It just went to show what a friendly and thoughtful boil Roch was. Right? "D'it bother y'what others think of y'then?" There was a smile in her voice as she made herself comfortable. "Was thinkin' bout gettin' a haircut 'fore too long. Never let it grow out too far. S'too much of a hassle if y'ask me." Lark lifted her hand to rub her nose. "Never did care what nobody else thought'a me," she decided to clarify.

He started brushing her hair, gently undoing the tangles. "I don't give a jack what people think about me," he told her as he brushed it out. "But I ain't gonna let them talk about you," he told her. "Plus, indulge me, screech. I like playin' with hair." His fingers were gentle but they seemed to know what they were doing as he started braiding her hair along her temple on one side of her head. "I'll let you be as bad as y'wanna be," he told her fondly. "But I'll be jacked if I let people look at one of my favorite ghouls like she's... less than perfect." Or easy, he thought, not about to say it aloud. When he was finished, her hair looked something like this.

One of his favorite ghouls. That compliment had her blushing and she wasn't sure why.
Well.
She totally knew why. He was a cute boil and he was playing with her hair, which felt really nice - but they were friends, and that was all they were. Lark couldn't allow for anything else. She needed to keep things simple, just like they were.
When Roch finished, Lark lifted her hand to brush against the braid. She couldn't help but grin hugely, green eyes sparking with something that looked suspiciously like vanity.
"Y'know I ain't never had nothin' so fancy done t'm'hair b'fore," Lark's blush grew a little brighter, "an.. I ain't perfect, Roch. Y'just bein' silly."

He looked at her, a bland expression on his face as he debated on explaining. Then, evilly, he decided she was old enough. "I meant I didn't want people sayin' y'ran off for the afternoon for a night of sleepin' with me," he told her bluntly. "An' we're friends, an' there IS such a thing as 'friends with benefits,' y'know?" he went on.
"But y'ain't that type of friend, screech--hell, you can't even look at my a** without turnin' red as a firecracker, much less stick your tongue down my throat," he teased. "Course, I ain't gonna complain if y'wanna try it, but even if you DID--" and he clearly doubted she would, "I'd still make sure nobody even dreamed y'd do that sortta thing."
Blunt enough?

Lark's eyebrows rose and her mouth dropped open, and the blush that had already pinkened her cheeks magnified until she was nearly as red as a neon sign. She'd only ever kissed one boil, and that had been Kettil - and just thinking about kissing Roch had her clapping her hands to her face.
"Sometimes I think y'only say that kind of stuff jest so I get t'blushin' again -- and I bet I could lookit yer a** or even kiss y'without blushin'," no she couldn't, "jest so y'know!!"
She still hadn't looked at him.
"What's friends w'benefits?"
