For a moment Stormy had been afraid he'd still try something, but when it was just foreheads they touched, she exhaled a small sigh of relief and curled her pinky around his in return. "Yeah . . ."
She found herself able to breathe at last when he stood up, even if her heart rate stubborn to slow down. Managing a weak smile, she touched her temple in salute. "Will do. Take care've yourself too, okay?" That was fair to ask, wasn't it? "I-I'll get that promotion done in no time."

This time Gale really did smile, tucking his hands together against the small of his back. "I'll take of myself, and you'll take care of yourself," he said, absently fiddling with the ring on his left index finger, the cold metal somehow soothing to him.
He started to walk away, stopped, and turned around at the last moment.
" 'You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think,' " he said carefully, and turned to look at her, the corners of his lips quirking upwards, just a little. "That's a Disney quote, isn't it?"
And then he turned and slipped from the room, his footsteps fading around the corner until they disappeared entirely.

That it was.
It was from A.A. Milne's Winnie the Pooh, to be precise. One of the first books Stormy received once her obsession had begun, and where she had first learned and empathized with poor Eeyore, and which had eventually led to multiple pairs of worn Eeyore slippers, a somewhat fresh pair which awaited her in her room.
Stormy stared at Gale's back and then at the empty doorway once he'd left, quietly amazed.
In the silence Thane sank his claws into her mind; she could almost imagine the brute clutching her shoulders, the pointed horns caressing her hair, the dark look in his eyes as he leaned forward and enveloped her in a possessive, winged embrace that would allow no-one else.
