Journal Six "Just because I'm not coming home to see you, don't mean I don't believe. It doesn't mean that I have forsaken you for the Shifter Gods and Goddesses. You are my mother, my one true Goddess, and it will always be so." Lasarra spoke to no one as she sat atop the tallest tree that she could find in the forest. It still didn't allow her to see Aisha, but she felt closer to the tree from where she was. This was the first year she wouldn't be celebrating with her sisters, but she felt like it was the best thing to do. She had seen what was happening to hybrids everywhere, so she couldn't only imagine what it would be like back on the islands. She wondered if she would even be allowed on the island. No, it was better to be here just this once. It would be her and Rayolun's first Shifter celebration, both together and apart. In her opinion it showed their bond, their merging together. Sure he would do his thing, as she was currently doing, but then they would get together and join the masses.
Still, even though she saw this as a new step forward in her life she couldn't shake the feeling of disappointing her mother. She had made it a point to see Aisha at least once a year, even when it was hard for her, and it had been some time since she returned to the island. She hadn't been back since she had been captured, which meant she hadn't been there since the Oban war. Now it was another upcoming war that kept her away from the islands, a war that was being created by her own sisters. Or at least she assumed it was going to end up as a war. She hoped not, but the more she saw the more she felt it was unlikely that a war wouldn't break out.
With a sigh she remembered a conversation she had when she was just a youngling. She wondered why she couldn't bring Aisha to their home, since she lived so far from her great Goddess. Her mother had laughed, but Lasarra was serious. She was sure that a clipping from Aisha's branches wouldn't hurt the Goddess. She wanted to plan the clipping and then have it inside of her home, to worship and talk to whenever she wanted. It wouldn't be like the real thing, after all it was only an extension of Aisha, but it would allow her to carry a bit of Aisha with her everywhere. Her mother had told her that it was impossible, and to get the idea out of her head, but Lasarra still wondered. She was sure that she wouldn't be allowed to do such a thing, but it would be so wonderful if she could. She would put the clipping outside, around her animals, and she would care for it just as she did Aisha. She would let other hybrids come to it as well. No one would be turned away, even earthlings that wanted to know more about her Goddess. But that was all wishful and pointless thinking.
"I promise that I will come home soon. Once this is all over, I will come and maybe if things with our sisters goes well I will bring Rayolun with me. You will like him mother, he's a wonderful man and he cares for me greatly. I know that he will be a wonderful father to our children." She smiled at the thought. Children. She didn't plan on having children the Alkidike way, but she still wanted her husband to meet Aisha. She wanted him to see where she had come from, her past. She hoped that Aisha didn't mind that she planned on having children the earthling way, she was sure that her mother would understand. She had talked to many earthling mothers, and they had all said the experience of having a child was life changing. She was sure that the Alkidike way was also amazing, but she couldn't help but feel like the baby wouldn't be as much hers and Rayolun's if born from Aisha. She wouldn't tell anyone other then Rayolun this of course, she was sure there were many Alkidike's that would take great offense to that train of thought. "I love you Aisha, and I will always see you as my one true Goddess. No matter how long I am separated from you, that is one thing that will never change."
With a final look towards where Aisha and the islands lay she started to climb down. At the base of the tree was Izsha and Achran. They both had bags filled with fruits and other things on their backs. She was grateful that her sister let her stay in her home until her and Rayolun's house was done being built, and brought as much food as she could home every time she went out. Their house was coming along nicely, and she was pretty sure that they would be able to move in soon. It made her excited, not only because it meant the start of her and Rayolun's new life but it also meant the expansion of their family. She couldn't wait to have something that was half her and half him. She had already started thinking about names, though she hadn't told him yet. She wanted a name that represented them both. She like Raylar, for a boy, or even Lasolu. Then for a girl she liked the names Lasseyn and Raysa. They were just ideas, and of course she wanted the two of them to agree on the names and pick them together, but it was exciting to think about.
Once she reached the ground she petted her companions and nodded in the direction of home. "Come on guys, it's time to get home." All this thinking of Rayolun made her miss him and she was eager to be back in his arms.

Growth Solo Lasarra had a family now, something she always wanted. She had a perfect husband and two lovely daughters, there was nothing else she could ask for. She was getting more and more creatures for sale, and more and more customers. It seemed even though she had been gone for some time her name still meant something among the Earthlings. Even her mother was happy for her. Everything was coming along perfectly for her. Well almost everything. She wasn't very welcome on the Isle. She never really had been, but after having children the earthling way... Well needless to say she wasn't most sisters favorite. In fact she didn't seem to be anyone's favorite anymore. Even her one true ally, best friend Bhima, had disappeared. She wished that her sisters wouldn't treat her so, but if that was the cost of starting her own family then so be it.
She was outside tending to some of her animals when something in this distance, something in the forest, caught her eye. "Achran, Izsha," she called, making a signal with her hand telling them to be on alert. Those two were her best trained creatures, and she wouldn't part with either of them for the world. She would protect them with her life, and she was sure they would do the same. "Who goes there? I can see you you know? If you're looking for trouble you've come to the wrong place. If you can get past me and my companions I'm sure my husband will cut you down." She threatened, her hand on the whip on her side. What, or who, ever was in the trees moved but didn't come out from hiding. As much as she hoped it was a creature she strongly doubted that.
"You have to the count of three until they come in after you..." She warned again, signaling Achran and Izsha to come to her side. "One... Two..." She didn't want a fight, but she was not about to let her daughters lives be in danger. Her companions were at her side immediately, baring their teeth in the direction of the forest. They were ready to fight if instructed to attack.
"Okay, okay I'm coming out. Don't make them attack!" a voice called out, both panic and anger in the voice. It was a woman's voice and as the woman came into view Lasarra recognized the woman as an Alkidike she didn't know. Automatically she waved her hand at her companions signalling them to stand down, the two creatures immediately sat at her side and kept their eyes trained on the Alkidike. Although the presence of an Alkidike worried Lasarra she didn't want to appear hostile, just in case this wasn't a dangerous visit.
The woman walked towards her slowly, her face clearly unhappy. "Hello Sister, what brings you here?" Lasarra asked politely.
The Alkidike flinched when called sister but didn't say anything about it. She stooped a few feet from Lasarra, sizing her up. Her glance lingered on Lasarra's tattoos, no doubt disapproving. But it seemed she was desperate because she sighed and began to talk to Lasarra anyways. "We recently caught a few Radaku, but haven't been able to train them. The sister who owns them isn't willing to take them off the island and we aren't willing to bring any earthlings there... That leaves you."
Lasarra was confused at first. Her? What did that had to do with her? Then after a few seconds the woman's words sunk in. They wanted her to go to train the Radaku since she was the only beast tamer that was at least half Alkidike. "You flatter me, but I'm sorry to say that your journey has been a wasted one. I have two children now and I don't leave him. I have no problem helping out and training the animals, however I can only do it here at my house."
Although it was true that she had children now and that she didn't want to leave them Lasarra knew they weren't the reason she wasn't willing to leave. As much as she loved them she feared leaving her husband's side more then anything else. They hadn't been separated for an especially long period of time since he saved her and she knew in order to go to the isles and train more then one animal she would be gone for a good amount of time. At the very least she would be away from her family for a month, and that just wasn't possible. What if something happened in that time, either to her or to her family? Any one of them could be kidnapped or killed. No, there was no way she felt safe leaving the island. She felt bad saying no to a sister in need, especially since she was already on such a rocky road with her kind, but she just didn't feel comfortable leaving.
The woman appeared to be happier at hearing Lasarra's words, which surprised Lasarra. She figured the woman would be mad, or at the very least disappointed?
"Oh don't worry, this wasn't a wasted trip. I can't wait to go back to the elders and tell them of how you refused us. Of how you've truly given up on your roots."
"Elder?" Lasarra was rendered almost speechless. What had she just said no to?
"Yes, the woman who needed your help was an elder, but I already told her you didn't belong back on the island but here with the people you chose to become. You are no longer one of our sisters, now you are one of them."
Closing her eyes Lasarra heard the Alkidike start to return back to the forest, snickering as she did so. It seemed she was pleased by this outcome, as if she was expecting Lasarra to turn down the request. That enraged Lasarra. How could one request determine who she was? Surely the elders wouldn't consider her a traitor or not one of them because of this? She had been through a lot and wasn't ready to leave her home just yet. Surely they would understand? No, she knew they wouldn't. They wouldn't even care that she had been kidnapped and felt security only around her husband.
Opening her eyes Lasarra called out towards the woman. "Come back in two days. I will be ready to go with you then."
If the Alkidike was surprised she didn't show it, she just kept walking towards the forest, a twitch of one of her antenne the only clue that she had heard the message.
Lasarra quickly turned towards the house, she had a lot to do before she left.
----
Two days later Lasarra had arranged everything. She had informed her husband and made arrangements for her animals to be fed regularly in case he had his hands full with the girls. She hated leaving him, both because she felt bad that he had to take care of everything himself and out of fear, but she knew this was something that she had to do. Now she just had to wait for the Alkidike woman to come get her. With both Achran and Izsha by her side she considered going into the forest alone and heading towards the isle, but she wasn't brave enough. No she would wait, just like she said she would.
By the end of the day Lasarra was in a bad mood. She knew the woman heard her, but she hadn't come. Just as Lasarra was about to get up and go back into the house Izsha started to grow and when Lasarra looked the woman was at the edge of the forest.
"Are you coming?"
Lasarra nodded and motioned for Achran and Izsha to follow her as she walked towards the forest. She was fine, confident even, until she could no longer see her home through the trees. With a deep breath Lasarra kept walking, determined not to look worried in front of anyone. She could do this. She was strong and nothing would happen to her or her family.
----
The month came and went without many troubles. Lasarra stayed in her mothers and worked with the elders animals as much as she could. She was determined to not be there more then a month, she was ready to go back home to her daughters and husband before she even stepped foot on the isle but was determined to see this through. A few times she had been picked on by sisters, but thankfully since she was working for the elder so it was nothing serious. It also helped that she rarely went out in public during times that there were a lot of sisters. Lasarra thought it would be better since there were no more extremists, but it seemed even though these sisters didn't want to take over the world they still didn't think highly of hybrids.
Finally she was done. The two Radaku were fully trained and the Elder was happy with Lasarra's work. She was offered compensation but turned it down. It was an honor to have been called at all. She just asked that she be allowed to go and speak with Aisha before she left back to her home, although the elder didn't seem very pleased by the request she was allowed since it she was a sister after all. After packing up she made her way to the great tree, her one true mother.
Quietly she made her way to a part of Aisha that wasn't occupied by anyone else. Putting her things down she went to the base of the tree and keeled, placing her hand on Aisha.
"Mother, it's good to see you after all this time." Tears threatened to spill from her eyes but she wouldn't let them. "I'm sorry that it's been so long since I've seen you, I've gone through many trials since I last laid eyes on you. I went to war to defend our land from those that wished to take it and was eventually kidnapped and made a slave from some time. Then my husband saved me, you'd like him mother. He is not one of you're children but I know you'd like him all the same. He cares for me deeply, and has given me two little girls." After this she paused, feeling guilty for not having children the Alkidike way. "I know that they weren't born from you like I was, and that they will never be able to come see you, but I will bring them up knowing all about you. Perhaps one day things will change and they will be able to come." She placed a hand on her mother. "Mother I don't want you think that I've abandoned you. I know others think it's so, but that isn't the case at all. I will always see you as my mother and the one true Goddess. I will always be thankful that you gave me life and for all that you do. It's just I'm no longer welcome here. I didn't mean to fall in love with an Earthling, or have children the earthling way, but it happened and I'm happy that it did. I love my family and I know my daughters will grow to be beautiful and wonderful women. I may seem more like an earthling then an Alkidike but that isn't true. I'm simply doing what is best for my family, and is really the only option. I cannot bring my family here, and my daughters cannot chose the path of an Alkidike warrior even if they wished to, it just simply isn't allowed. I want you to know that if it was an option to raise them here I would, but we both know that's not possible."
Lasarra took her hand off of Aisha and stood. "This will most likely be the last time that I see you in a long time, hopefully next time my daughters will be with me, but please mother don't forget about me. Know that even if I'm not here I'm always thinking of you and I hope you hear my prayers every night. This is not good bye, for I would never leave you for another way of life, but this is a see you later." After bowing deeply Lasarra got her things and headed back home. She had said her thoughts and hopefully her mother not only heard her but understood her. She could handle her sisters forsaking her, but she hoped that her true mother and goddess never would.
