In the end,as you fade into the night,
Who will tell the story of your life?

User Image
As Aingel sat there, he thought of all the times he had been alone. The earliest he could remember was the First World War. He had been a fighter pilot, flying a little single seat plane high in the clouds, but planes didn't have radios back then. There was always his wingmen, whom he could communicate to with hand signals, but...he had always been cursed with the best flying skills. He would always manage to survive the aerial battles that everyone else didn't. And then, on the way home....Alone. And then the Second World War rolled around, and it was the same thing. Only this time, He had a radio. Not that it did much good. In fact, it made it worse, him calling out for his friends, asking for someone, anyone to respond, and only getting static. After that...he learned to embrace the silence. Even learned to like it. Now, he always retreated to places like this to be alone, in the peace and quiet. The loneliness was still there, but he learned to live with it these days.

When Levi came, he didn't look at her, not until she sat the bowl down. He examined it, then, as she left, quietly said, "Thank you," and began to eat it. Once he was satisfied, he relaxed against the wall, and eventually, he fell asleep.

And who will remember your last goodbye?

Cause it's the end and I'm not afraid,
I'm not afraid to die.

Levi finished eating her bowl of soup and cleaned up before she could feel the sleeping presence of another. She chuckled and then went and took the tray back, putting the dishes in the sink for tomorrow. She went back downstair and hoisted Aingel into her arms. He was fairly easy for Levi to carry as she walked to his room. She pulled the sheets down with one hand before she laid Aingel in bed and pulled the covers up. She walked to the door and turned to watch his sleeping face for a moment.
"Good night Aingel."

Levi went to her own room and stripped down to just her undergarments before she crawled in bed and promptly fell asleep.

Aingel awoke the next morning, sitting up any yawning, then looking around in confusion. How had he gotten here? Did he sleep walk? No, no...maybe...Levi moved him. It made him blush thinking that she had carried him up here for some reason, but he pushed it out of his mind. That was not the thing to think about. Stretching, he sat up and looked around the room, locating the closet. He was relieved to find mostly decent clothes in there, but he caught the glint of something made from latex in the back. However, he did not dwell on it, instead throwing on a white cotton shirt and grey jeans, before heading downstairs.

He took a moment to look through the kitchen, and managed to find the right ingredients for breakfast bagels, or bagels with sausage, egg, and cheese in them. As he prepared the meals, he took the moment to look out the window, at the vista of the rising sun, and nature and blah blah blah. He was never really one for appreciating beauty, but he did admit, the rising sun looked pretty nice that morning. Once he finished one for himself and a few more for Levi, he sat at the table and quietly ate, letting himself wake up some more.

And who will remember your last goodbye?

Cause it's the end and I'm not afraid,
I'm not afraid to die.

Levi's eyes flickered open as she awoke from her sleep. She stretched to loosen any tight muscles and looked out her window. She sat there for a moment, taking in the beauty of the morning before she crawled out of bed. She brushed the knots out of her hair and then changed into her blue and black striped undergarments. She pulled her vest and sleeve on and then padded downstairs into the kitchen. She grabbed a breakfast bagel that was waiting for her, recently made too, and then plopped down into one of the chairs. She munched on her bagel while she stretched out in her chair. She ate her bagel quickly and then washed it down with a glass of orange juice before she tapped a finger against her lips. It was a sign that she was thinking.

Aingel had just finished when Levi came in, and he decided, for once, to stick around and be in someone's company for once. Plus, he wanted to know if she was still in a pissy mood, or if she had anything demeaning for him to (not) do. He decided to have half of another bagel, and waited patiently for her to finish. He....admitted he was wrong about her looks. She was attractive, but Aingel couldn't bring himself to be attracted to her, not with her intentions for him. It would compromise his schemes to escape if he was reluctant to leave. He looked over and saw her looking thoughtfully, and went over to her, collecting her now empty plate. "Something on your mind?"

And who will remember your last goodbye?

Cause it's the end and I'm not afraid,
I'm not afraid to die.

Levi sighed when Aingel asked her if there was something on her mind. There was so much on her mind that she couldn't keep track of it.
"Several things actually. My brother is supposed to come visit soon, but he never tells me an exact time so he could randomly show up, my mother is pressuring me to have a ball to find a suitable husband, and she's pregnant again."
Levi frowned when she revealed that her mother was pregnant again. Normally, a male heir would be stepping up to the throne, but Levi's brother was too young to take the throne at only 16. He was practically still a baby to the eyes of other. Levi's mother being pregnant again was complicated because of the way that her pregnancies had gone before. Usually, they never ended well. Levi huffed and leaned against the wall.

"My mother has a bad history with being pregnant. My brother and I are lucky that we survived at all. Usually the children are stillborn, or die at an early age. Now that she's pregnant again, there will be more pressure on me to come back to the kingdom and accept my position as crowned princess so that I can be 'trained' on how to rule my country blah blah blah. And since I'm at a nice fertile age, mother keeps insisting that I find a mate and pop out as many children as I can. It's disturbing really."
Levi's slight British accent became obvious as she kept talking about her frustrations. When she had studied in the human realm, she had stayed in London mostly which is why her accent was so strong. Even when she was talking normally, it still leaked out.

Aingel listened intently. As he did, he got out a broom and dust pan and began sweeping the floor. He had only cleaned yesterday, bur he supposed that it was always a good time for a quick sweep. "Sounds like you have a lot on your mind then." He said simply. He did a few more sweeps, then put the broom away, and say back down across from her, looking at her. "Still, be glad that you have at least one parent to speak of. I lost both of mine in the opening salvos of human conflicts, and then on the road to avenge their deaths, I...lost a lot more." He shifted, standing uncomfortably. The wars had scarred him, more that he would have thought. How many nights had he woken up screaming? How many times had he flashed back to those bitter aerial battles? Too many times to count, that was for sure. He pinched the bridge of his nose, the mere thought of it all threatening to take control of him. Time for a change of subject. "I still have a sister, though, Serana. I miss her every day, I'll admit. I just wish I could have told her goodbye, in case I..never see her again." His heart and mind no longer interested in conversing, he left the kitchen, and wandered into the foyer, taking a seat on the stairs and waiting for Levi or someone to give him orders.

And who will remember your last goodbye?

Cause it's the end and I'm not afraid,
I'm not afraid to die.

Levi sighed as she watched Aingel leave the kitchen. She had listened intently to his words and could feel the tense and chaos building in him when he began to talk of the human wars. She knew that they must still affect him and wondered if he had nightmares about being in the war. She had seen many battles herself, but they had never truly impacted her. Levi had long since shut off her feelings of loss after 'the incident'. She still couldn't talk or think about it. Her mind went blank whenever she tried to. She figured it was probably because she didn't want to remember. Levi, pushed off the wall and did a little ballet jump before she landed flat on her feet again.

Levi walked out to find Aingel sitting on the stairs. She placed a hand on her hip, thinking about what to have him do before she decided.

"Please finish the rooms you didn't yesterday. I have business to attend to so I won't be around until lunchtime."

Aingel looked up expectantly as Levi came in, tilting his head at the word "please." How...uncharacteristic of her, he mused. He was expecting some sort of punishment for his actions yesterday, or warning not to cross her again, or...something other than what she did. Oh well, the less torture, the better. Besides, his mind was still roiling over his memories of war, so he needed something to take his mind off things, and cleaning would at least give him something to focus on. "Ok." Aingel said simply, before going to get the cleaning suplies.
After gathering the right materials, he set about cleaning the rooms, starting on the room he couldn't finish yesterday. Once it was done, he moved to the others, diligent, but taking his time. Soon he had finished the cleaning up, and was once more left without anything to do...

And who will remember your last goodbye?

Cause it's the end and I'm not afraid,
I'm not afraid to die.

Levi shadow travelled to her studio before she stripped down to just her undergarments. She pulled her hair into a bun and then started with some stretching. She always stretched to make sure that she didn;t strain her muscles. After about half an hour of stretching, Levi went over to her stereo system and flicked through her iPod, looking for the right playlist to play. Once she found a playlist she was satisfied with, Levi played the music and began to dance. Like the day before, Levi did three dances before she turned off the music and did some light stretching as she rehydrated.

While stretching, Levi could tell that Aingel had finished cleaning. She could detect the stillness that was about him and thought about going to give him another chore to do before she decided against it. He could entertain himself for awhile while she practiced. She needed to stay active so that she would be in the best shape possible for dancing. Levi hadn't danced in front of other people in years, but she kept doing it. It was her passion and she wasn't going to give it up that easily. Levi put her drink down to the side before she started the music up again. Words began to play and Levi almost choked. She had heard this song in forever and it held so much meaning for her. Swallowing her sorrow and fear, Levi began to dance. Tears were threatening to overpower her, but she pushed through it and continued with the dance.

Her movements were fluid and soft, the sadness of the song and her own emotions being evident in the dance. It was beautiful and breathtaking, but it was also emotional. As the music died down, her dancing did as well until she was laying on the floor. Tears were streaming down her face and she hugged herself. She hadn't broken down in a long time.

Aingel, after finishing, wandered around the mansion again, cross checking the place with his memorized map. Once he was positive that he had it all down, he sighed, and looked out the window. He no longer felt that drive to escape, he realized. He still wanted to, but...now he felt like a mouse in a castle of giants. Levi was obviously more powerful than he ever imagined, the dogs were as well...and he was but an elf...Part of him just told him to submit, but he ignored that. No, he wasn't going to give up, not yet. He....he would just have to step back. Observe. There was no possible way to plan for this, so he would just have to wing it and look for an opportunity to escape.
With that his goal, he began to think of the life he left behind, namely his sister. She was a strong girl, stronger than him. In fact, Levi reminded him a lot of her. They were both strong minded and able bodied, dangerous, but...beautiful. And no, he wasn't too proud to admit that Levi was beautiful. But that didn't mean he was attracted to her. And, they both seemed to enjoy having dominion. His sister always pulled him along for her plans, or teased him, or....well, things like that. So yeah, they were very alike...but that didn't mean he would lie down for her like her dogs.

And who will remember your last goodbye?

Cause it's the end and I'm not afraid,
I'm not afraid to die.

Levi had managed to pull herself together and finished stretching before she cleaned up her studio and headed to her room. She showered, scrubbing all the dirt and sweat from her skin before getting dressed for the day. She wore a strapless white sundress that ended just at her knees. She felt like a change for the day and changed her hair. Half of it was up in an elegant braided up-do while the rest of it flowed down her back. After finishing her hair, Levi slipped into some sandals and then headed down stairs to get something to eat.

Levi rifled around in the kitchen for awhile before she made herself a sandwich and ate quickly. She wanted to be outside today since the sun was so promising. After eating, she grabbed the book she had been reading the day before and then went out to the front swinging bench underneath the large tree that grew in her front garden. She laid down, propping her feet on the armrest before she picked up her book and began to read.

Aingel continued to look out the window, staring at that endless horizon beyond the ramparts that surrounded the mansion...his...prison. How strange, he thought, that one never truly realized how close the horizon was when there was an insurmountable obstacle in your way. It was almost as if he could react out and brush that sky with his fingers, run his hand over the soft green trees. Was this what a convict felt like? A prisoner who was falsely charged for a crime he did not commit, looking out his cell at the distance he would never reach again?
He shook his head, clearing his thoughts of musings. No sense dwelling over them. What's done is done, and what will happen will happen. He looked down, and saw Levi sitting under a tree, and, fancying some fresh air himself, turned, and went downstairs, eventually finding his way to the yard. Interestingly, the door was not secured, but he supposed the hounds were waiting in anticipation should he start running. But escape was not on his mind, only conversation. He headed over to Levi, and looked down at her, his hands in his pockets, and leaned idly against the tree. "So, has your mansion always been this..fortified?"

And who will remember your last goodbye?

Cause it's the end and I'm not afraid,
I'm not afraid to die.

Levi had draped a leg over the side of the bench and would occasionally shove against the ground so that the bench swung gently. Her hair swayed in the breeze it created, swaying in time with the swing. She continued to read and only noticed Aingel's presence when he spoke. She marked her page and closed the book before she laid it on her chest. She continued to swing, seeing that he was leaning against the tree that shaded her.
"Yes. My parents would only let me move here if it was up to their standards of protection and they maintain it to be the impenetrable and inescapable fortress that it is."

Levi sighed, frowning at the thought of her parents. Her parents had always been overprotective of her since she was one of their only surviving children and now her mother was pregnant again. Levi already knew that the child would not make it into this world and if it did, it would surely die within the first few years of its life. She wondered how her little brother was doing and knew that he was probably dying to get away from their parents like she had been at his age.

Aingel nodded thoughtfully, looking up at the mansion around them. While a civillian eye would probably only see a mansion, albeit a bit blocky, Aingel's military eyes picked out the strategic positions, the fortifications, the blueprints designed to make this little more than a very posh fortress. He noted that not only did it have measures in place to prevent escape, but also to prevent...entrance. What was the purpose of that? Did Levi have enemies in this world? If so, what were they after? He looked at her, tilting his head to the wall. "If this were on the battlefields I fought over, it would take no less than a small army to penetrate, much less occupy. It's made for heavy attack and bombardments. I would not be surprised if there was a whole secret level underneath it complete with food and supplies for a siege. Just what kind of threats did your parents expect...?"

And who will remember your last goodbye?

Cause it's the end and I'm not afraid,
I'm not afraid to die.
