The text back made him smile, in spite of the fact that a lab tech in question was attempting to stick a needle into his arm for an IV as he was reading it. Gale spent the next several moments arguing profusely over this outrage, and it was only after he promised to lay down and go to sleep that they finally left him alone.
Except not, because Gale was not about to go lay down and go to sleep in the Infirmary.
Stormy's expression was worried.
"I'm fine," he said, raising a hand to her as she padded towards him, a bowl in her hands. He carefully extracted himself from the blankets and slipped off the cot, wincing a little as his feet hit the floor. "And yes, I'm sure. I don't need to stay here, they're just overreacting."
Gale glanced around the side of the partition that blocked his bed from the others, and then gave a nod to Stormy, gesturing towards the Infirmary Entrance.
"Okay, so," he said. "Just like that scene in the first Pirates where Will and Jack use that boat to just casually get to the ship they need."
A pause.
"Except minus the boat and the ship."

Gale could wave all he wanted, but she still didn't like the look of those runic bandages on him. The techs might have been overreacting, maybe, but Stormy had heard him fight and avoid those traps--forgive her if she was a little concerned something had made it past the shield or something.
Though it was quickly becoming overshadowed by the fact that he was indulging her with the Pirates theme.
"Ohhh . . . So like creeping to the exit?" she asked, dipping into a more crouched position while leaning in with a whisper. "We could use a blanket instead . . . Wait, that'd just make us conspicuous. Maybe hide under your coat so they can't recognize you? Oh! Do they like blueberries? I could offer them around and see how distracted they get while you escape."

He crouched with her, casting a glance to the side, where the little office was. A few techs stood talking, one of them moving their head back to laugh, and Gale turned his head to Stormy.
"You distract them," he said. "And I'll make a break for it and meet you outside the Infirmary."

"Right."
Pause. Then she cleared her throat quietly and did her best British accent, putting a few fingers to her temple in salute.
"'Right then. Ello, beastie~"
And with the seriousness of one moving towards their death, Stormy crept over to the office. She slunk against the wall and peered stealthily in, taking a moment to breath before she sprung up straight and stepped right in. "Ladies and gents, I present to you the finest batch of blueberries this side of the pond!" she chirped, still affecting the accent.
One of them squinted at her. "I think that's mine."
"The finest batch ever okay. A brilliant batch, really. Brilliant blueberries."
"Did you ******** take my food?"
"N . . . no . . . ?"
"Is my name on the bottom?"
She lifted up the plastic box and saw something scrawled in somewhat smudged permanent marker. "Are you . . . Burnie?"
"Bonnie."
"Oh. It seems we have a little . . . misunderstanding . . ."

Gale hovered somewhere in the vicinity of his cot, crouched down beside it, the hangings still pulled around it to shield him from any prying eyes. He had planned to wait until he heard the opportune moment get it arrive, but then he heard a raised voice and something about blueberries and -
Whoops.
Quick as a flash, Gale was striding into the office, sliding an arm around behind Stormy, half to hide the bandages looped around them, and half to say, "Yes, a misunderstanding, St - I mean, Elizabeth here was just bringing you your food early since, well, everyone needs a break now and then, and she figured we'd do you a solid."
Bonnie gave him a Highly Suspicious Look.
"I already had my lunch ten minutes ago, those were for my snack later."
A pause.
"Yes. Well. So we're a little bit early with delivery, oh well."
"Aren't you one of our patients?"
"I'm afraid you're mistaken, I was just on kitchen duty, you see, and they asked me to come here."
"You are, aren't you?"
"Wow, look at the time, time to go S - Elizabeth."
And with that Gale grabbed Stormy's wrist and yanked her out of the Infirmary and out into the hallway, not stopping until they reached a small room off of a side hallway that may or may not have been a storage closet.
Then he collapsed onto the floor, breathing heavily.

"This was the day you almost caught Captain Jack Sparroooooowwwwww!" was Stormy's exiting call as she tossed the package of blueberries at them. If they were making a dramatic entrance, might as well do a matching exit, right? And, well, more distractions. She was then promptly dragged away as the techs began cursing and muttering about absolute nutters on this damn island.
Where it came from, Stormy didn't know, but a fit of giggles overcame her about halfway through the escape, and she had to stifle them behind her hand as they hid in the storage closet, nearly falling to the floor as she staggered in behind him. "I don't think they want to follow us after that," she whispered, losing the accent but still bubbling up partial chuckles. "Did you see the looks on their faces? I don't think they even got the references!"

Gale, it seemed, had also caught a case of the giggles (or the male equivalent, rather), and was stifling his snickers against his arm, which he'd raised sometime in the past few seconds. But now he lowered it, a wide grin spreading across his face.
"I don't think they did," he said. "It was a beautiful look, wasn't it? They were so confused, and it was amazing."
It was the first time in a very long time that he was actually, genuinely enjoying himself, in spite of everything else going on around them. Gale pushed himself to a sitting position and leaned back against one of the shelves, swiping a hand through his hair and realizing that he probably did not exactly look the greatest, what with his slightly damp hair, bruised and sweaty face with its sticky red blood half covered by bandages.
But that was all beside the point.
He held out a hand to Stormy to indicate a high five.
"I think we make a good team, partner. What say you?"

"It was super special awesome was what it was~" And she let out a softer laugh as she slumped down against the door, taking the time to catch her breath. When was the last time she'd laughed this much? Silliness wasn't uncommon with her (she'd come to the conclusion that somehow it charmed people for a reason she couldn't fathom), but other than the occasional giggle it had been restricted. Something about the absolute wanton nature of their escapade made her want to keep laughing until she was in tears.
Funnily, even with her laughter faded she still felt that nameless impulse to cry.
Nevertheless, Stormy was still bearing a bright smile and slightly pinked cheeks from the aftermath when she raised her hand to high five Gale back. "I say bring me that horizon, Will," she answered happily. "And look, I even got to hear that nice laugh in person! All things considered, this has been a good day~"
Withdrawing her hand, Stormy raised herself to her knees and leaned a little forward. "You sure about those wounds, though?" she asked, peering at the bloody bandages on his face intently. "I know we heal naturally and all, but maybe we should clean those up . . ."

It took a while for the urge to laugh to subside, and even when it had, Gale was still smiling; a small gesture that to most was just a normal expression to have, but to Gale, who spent most of his time with a more serious look, it was particularly unusual.
It felt nice. He turned his head to look at Stormy and his cheeks were slightly pink. "My laugh isn't that great," he said, but it was a gentle denial, Gale drawing one knee up to his chest to rest an arm across.
The mentioning of his wounds made him blink a little, and Gale reached a hand up, fingers touching the cut on the side of his head. "It's not that bad," he said, but then, after a moment, he said, "Well. It's not terrible."

She thought to argue, then simply smiled instead. Frankly she was the same when it came to herself, so maybe it was hypocritical to impress it upon him. "You do blush a lot," she remarked. "The first time we met I thought it was just the cold, but you do! Am I getting too close for comfort?" Stormy sat back without waiting for a response, hands folded in her lap.
"I guess we should have taken some more runic bandages with us...Hmm. I wouldn't want to try the infirmary right now. Maybe we should have a stakeout?" Then she paused and her eyes lit up with realization. "Wait! Waitwaitwait, I owe you a meal! And dessert! Did you want that first?"

Gale opened his mouth to say something and then promptly shut it again, his cheeks doing exactly what Stormy was saying they were doing - namely blushing a lot.
"No, you're fine," he said hastily. "I just, er, well that's just the way I am...I suppose."
His voice had trailed off a little, ending in an embarrassed mumble, and Gale coughed, attempting to dispel some of the awkwardness. He gave Stormy a slightly wry smile.
"I think I have some bandages back at the house if you don't mind going with me into the towns," he said. "And then we can go get food?"

The sight made her laugh a little more behind her hand. "Ooo! So I get to visit your house?" Stormy asked with some excitement. The only house she'd been in was Ami's, and only because Madeline had requested her specifically. Frankly she wanted to know how he had set it up. "I don't mind at all! Let's go."
With surprising swiftness she bounced to her feet and fiddled with the doorknob, then leaned over to offer Gale a hand up. "Lead the way, Mr. Turner!"

He took her hand and hauled himself upwards, grinning at her. "Come on," he said, and poked his head around the doorway, peering down the empty hall. "I'll show you where it is."
It took them a few moments to cross the Deus Ex grounds and get to the main part of the towns. But as they neared closer to his little abode, Gale began to get slightly nervous, and he couldn't quite figure out why that was.
"It, er," he said, as the little yellow house came into view. "It's...this one over here."
He led the way over to the stairs and gestured for Stormy to follow, unlocking the front door and ushering her inwards before he shut it again, the short, white hallway bright in comparison to the foggy outside.
"It's, er," said Gale, shuffling a little as he tried to surreptitiously pick up a cloth that had fallen onto floor. His face reddened a little (as usual). "It's not much, I'm afraid, but it's something, at least."

"Oh! It's like a little sunspot out here," Stormy chirped. "And yellow to match you." Pleasantly surprised he took up residence in a place that a least had a little color (she was far too used to the white walls of the dorms), she followed after Gale with light steps.
"It's more than I have, so it's very more-ish. Should I take off my shoes before we go further?" she asked, just the slightest bit nervous herself. Stormy always was in people's abodes until she got used to them: some people liked things a certain way, and infringing in it could mean no more darkening their doorstep...

A sunspot, Gale thought, and this little nickname pleased him. He'd worked hard to get where he was, to get the house cleaned up for himself. It had taken months of clearing out the shadowlings, and then yet another several months when that Insanity creature had rampaged through the towns. But even when it kept getting destroyed, he kept rebuilding it.
This is my home, he thought. My little sunspot, as it is.
<< It's a very agreeable term. >>
Gale turned his head back to Stormy. "Oh," he said. "No, don't worry about that. People tend to just barge in at times, so I've given up. You can keep your shoes on."
He led the way into the tiny little kitchen, pulling open a drawer near the sink and rummaging around for a minute before he found what he was looking for.
"Got them," said Gale, and held up a roll of bandages. "Knew I had them here somewhere."
