The door was quite heavy, but yielded easily enough under Sasha's efforts. The door opened to a stone stairway, darkness filling it's path only a few feet down.

Sasha was hesitant to walk down into the darkness without some source of light, and even more hesitant to walk down while unarmed.

Nona was summoned, her runes giving off a dull glow.

As Sasha started taking steps down the stairs, she hoped the weapon gave off enough light so that she could see. Her movements were slow, as silent as possible, and a cold sweat glistened on her forehead.

The stairs went down quite a bit, Nona's glow only revealing stone walls and unlit sconces. The air grew colder the deeper she went, and by the time she reached the bottom, a chill had firmly settled itself upon her.

The room was full of stone effigies staring sightless ahead, each holding an odd staff decorated in glowing, familiar runes. Urns of various size decorated the walls. The place was undeniable a crypt.

Above, there came the sudden, resounding slam of a door being firmly shut and latched. If she choose to go back up, Sasha would find herself locked in.

Sasha didn't bother going back upstairs. She'd heard the slam, the latch - all of her attention at that point went to not panicking.

It wasn't working.

Resting Nona's hooks over her arm, Sasha's first thought was to try her cell phone. Trembling, she flipped it open, dropping it once before finally getting her fingers to function properly. Nona's attempts at soothing her bonded went relatively ignored as Sasha haphazardly tapped out a text.

Text to: Dr. H
Text from: Sasha B.

Hello, sir.

I'm locked in the crypt.

Any idea on how to proceed would be most appreciated.

As soon as she pressed send, Sasha squeezed her eyes shut and waited for a response.

Text from Doctor H:

An odd circumstance, but rather fitting. If you're unable to manage, use your pendant to return, and I'll re-assign the project.

PostPosted: Wed May 01, 2013 11:10 pm

Well, that simply wasn't an option. No way was she going to have this project reassigned to someone else. This project belonged to her.

Filled with renewed resolve and the ambition (or perhaps stupidity) to match, Sasha moved deeper into the crypt, pausing now and again to peer at the runed staffs.

Curious about the weapons, Sasha reached out to brush her fingers against one of them.

If the stave felt loose, Sasha would attempt to pull it free.

Because so far, she'd had nothing but brilliant ideas.

The weapon crumbled into pieces under the pressure of her grip. In the dim light, the placard upon the statue read:

Alexandre the Radiant
Knight of Mela

Each statue in the crypt bore a similar message.

Francis the Stalwart
Knight of Mela

Bertrand the Cunning
Knight of Mela

Anais the Fair
Knight of Mela

Marcelle the Honey Tongued
Knight of Mela

And so on the went, each a silent guardian of varying trait. At the far end of the crypt, a large stone casket rests.

She winced when the weapon crumbled beneath her touch. She was very careful not to touch another runed staff. It hadn't been her intent to destroy it, and it was very unsettling that she had - it hadn't been hers to touch, let alone ruin.

Exhaling shakily, Sasha walked the length of the crypt, pausing at each statue to silently mouth the names on the placards.

Knights of Mela. Her brow furrowed slightly as she paused just before the large stone casket. Intrigued, Sasha stepped up to the casket. Nona was silent yet agitated.

Is Mela a family name, I wonder? The owners of the estate, maybe?

Would there be a placard on the casket, as well?

No.

lizbot
No.

There wasn't a placard.

But what else is there about it?

Sasha hummed softly under her breath and looked around the casket for anything else of interest - particularly an alternate exit out of the room.

Within the casket came a muted scraping sound.

Sasha took a step back.

<Don't do it, dove.>

"It's probably just rats," Sasha murmured softly before moving back to the casket so she could check for more movement.

After a moment Sasha reached out with Nona's hooked blade, hesitating briefly before tapping the weapon against the lid of the casket.

The sound abruptly ceases and then...

"Hello?"
PostPosted: Thu May 02, 2013 9:05 pm

It wasn't rats.

Someone was in the casket.

For a second Sasha thought that her mind was playing tricks on her. The old woman certainly had gone more than slightly crazy, and Sasha was her own proof that the crone was nutty enough to lock someone in the crypt.

Then again, Sasha was slowly but surely coming to realize that there was something horrible about the estate in general.

Pressing her lips together, Sasha didn't make a move to open the casket. Instead, she merely took a step back and called out from a distance, "Who are you? Are you stuck in there?"

"I'm a princess...are you a knight?" The voice was sweet and girlish, with a hint of laughter in it. Scratching and rustling could be heard once again.
