"Do you THINK for a moment I came to wag my finger at you? Do you THINK I waste my time with killers? Do you THINK I'm friends with Rep when people call him a killing machine? That he's a Sun who's single purpose in life is to hack away at whatever is in front of him and...wellll..." Melvin lifted his arms a bit. "Suns will be Suns. So what if they accidentally murder someone on our side in the process. You can't hold them accountable for it. They're just Suns after all. No better than some bad dog?" He mocked the idea of it.
"People here continue to tell me that we're killers. Soldiers meant to face great and terrible things and sure, that might mean a lot of crazy goes around, but not to expect much. Our lives are short anyways. I've sat in meetings with our fellow superiors who care very little about how we live as long as we follow orders like good little doggies. I'm not a dog, Jerry, and neither are you. For all the big bite you have, and I am in awe at times at the sheer magnitude of power your division holds, I don't see you all as arms just to swing big weapons about. You are smarter than that. So when people start hurting each other, I come to them because I'm not going to treat you like a bad dog who doesn't know better. You are a man and men take responsibility. People also care when terrible things happen, like a man sitting in a Infirmary room when he was just hoping to spar with a friend."
He took a breath. "I'm not your mother. I'm not here to hold hands. I'm a Lifer, and that means I care about the quality of Life of the people here. That I want LIFE to continue. Not just survival, Jerry. Terrible things happen. I'm here to find out why so that maybe they don't happen again and I don't have to see bandages used more often than they have to be." He took a breath. "I might be one shitty friend, but I'm not going to sugar coat things just to make things look prettier. That doesn't fix things."
"I'm not here to make you accept that your a bad killing machine because you're not, and I don't want you to ever accept that." He remained there, waiting to be pushed out.

Jerry's nostrils were flaring as Melvin continued to rant, but each word made his stomach twist. Finally, the emotions stewing inside him burst forth in the sound of a quiet, tight attempt to hold in laughter. Finally it broke free into outright guffaws. "Suns don't let loose because we can't control it. We let loose because we HAVE TO. He asked me to not hold back so I didn't. You think I've always been like this? You sound like me a good two years ago, Trainee, and if you want to keep your own sanity, you'll drop it." His voice was shaking, his eyes glassy and enraged behind his glasses. The guy didn't know what sort of hornet nest he was stepping in.
With an exasperated, strangled noise in his throat, he marched into the bathroom and slammed the door shut.

Melvin waited and blinked a moment. "I'll drop compassion to keep my sanity? Well I guess I don't need it then." He stepped back in, whistling a moment as he looked about. "Plenty of crazy people living here. I keep getting told that everyone is crazy here. Is it because everyone doesn't care? You seem to care a whole lot. Not the actions of a bad dog."
Melvin waited and looked at the bathroom door. "I'm not going anywhere. This is a small island."
He huffed. "I'm honestly trying."
He looked about at the instruments. "..not that anyone really cares." He muttered as he poked a keyboard key and jumped when it made a noise. Oh, it was on.
He poked it again.

Jerry paced once the door was locked, raking his hands through his hair. He couldn't handle this right now. He could barely keep track of his own thoughts, let alone the onslaught that was Melvin. A tiny part of him spoke up softly that the Lifer really was just concerned. The rest of him was convinced being demanded personal details was not something he was comfortable with.
Jerry place.
Deep breaths.
He could call for back up- send a text to Jordan or Candace to come save him.
No he couldn't, his phone was in his jacket pocket and his jacket was left in a blood-stained heap in the other room.
His brain was screaming loud enough to drown out Roar's unhelpful suggestions, but the sound of piano keys at least cut through the panic attack in a wobbly moment of reprieve.
Good, he was distracted.
He glanced to the tiny window, usually just enough to air the place out on a bad digestion day. But he was skinny. As quietly as he could, he climbed on top of the toilet, and worked on sliding it open. He could fit his head through alright, but the shoulders might be a problem and he nearly lost his glasses as he made the mistake of looking down.
It was just two stories. If he fell, he'd live. Like a desperate rat, he shimmied one shoulder through- He could make it to the ledge outside his bedroom window if he was careful...

Melvin continued to tap at the keys, waiting. "Come on now, I'm not that bad. You can't stay in there forever. I just wanted to talk."
He continued to tap at the keys with one finger. "I think I still remember Hot Cross Buns." He curled his hand into a fist and rocked it over the keys.

Jerry's feet danced over the lid of the toilet, and there was a porcelain rattle as he knocked the top. A quick squeak as his foot slipped to the flusher, but he clung to the outer wall and the window frame.
He got a good eyefull of the ground. Another strangled yelp and he clenched his eyes closed.
Just don't look down.
He reached, carefully, until he could feel the corner of the next window over, and shimmied until he was straddling the windowsill. Just one leg left.
Deep breaths. Don't look down. Let's do this.
Carefully, he managed to reach one foot onto one sill, while the other gripped the wall as best as his rubber souls could bear.
This was crazy this was CRAZY oh god just don't look down.

Madison had just been going for a walk when she realized somebody was on the wing of the plane side of the dormitory. "Hey!" she shouted, startled, stepping her pace up to a brisk jog. "You okay up th-"
Oh. Oh no.
"Jerry?!"
She stood below him, arms akimbo. "You come down from there right now!"
...
"By using the stairs!" she added, just in case.

At the sudden call of his name, Jerry flinched and nearly fell from his precarious perch. "Ah.... ah... M-madison!" He breathed, once the voice registered.
He glanced down to try to spot her but the ground swam and he looked away again quickly. "Sh-shhhhh!! He'll hear you!" He managed as loudly as he dared.

"'He'? Who's he?" Madison called back, at slightly less volume. Though only slightly. "Why the hell are you up there? You're not... Jerry, tell me straight, okay?" A look of worry passed over her features.
"You're not... going to jump, are you?"

"N-not if I can help it!!" Jerry half groaned. He shimmied a little bit more toward the corner of his bedroom windowsill. "Could... I don't think I can make it to the fire escape- Could you... g-get a rope or something? I could get up to the roof..."

Madison slumped a bit with relief. "Okay... okay, Jerry, hang on," she said, talking more rapidly now that she knew she wasn't about to watch Jerry try and off himself. "Wait. Jerry, there's the window... just go back inside! You can do that, can't you?"

"No, he's still in there!!" Jerry hissed back down as loud as he dared.
His hands were getting tired.
Just don't look down.

"Who the ******** is 'he'? Jerry... come on, it can't be that bad," Madison said, quickly, but she did start looking around for a ladder or a rope or something. s**t. Nothing. Maybe she should text someone?!
"Jerry, it's... it's just two stories, if you like... shifted and hung from your fingertips on the ledge there it wouldn't be that far of a drop the rest of the way down..."

It was only a twenty-some foot drop, theoretically.
That was still a lot of feet.
"I ah.... it... but he keeps... asking things" He whimpered before taking a deep breath. Maybe she was right. It wasn't that far, really. Not compared to some falls he had had...
He knew for a fact fear shields did s**t all about falling. His stomach was in knots.

"Jerry. Who is he?! Is it H? Caelius? Rep?"
... She didn't really think it was Rep.
