He glanced around, wanting not to get in anyone's way as he moved around the other candidates, his hands brushing over the Watchful Egg He could feel the presence of the little dragon inside, it felt as if there were eyes watching him and he almost turned around, instead, he gently rubbed the egg and moved on. He couldn't help wondering if he would or even could make a connection with a dragon through the egg. And would they find him when he stood? Or would he be one of the others who was left without a dragon until the next hatching?

He frowned as he reached the Territorial Egg A headache starting to form but it backed down after a moment. It seemed whatever was inside might not be so interested in him and he felt a sharp ping in his temple, maybe he shouldn't think at the moment. "I'm sorry little one." He said quietly as he rubbed the egg's surface moving on as he rubbed his head with his other hand.

He made it over to the Gold-patchworked egg. Werent gold colored eggs usually housing a gold dragon? But he was supposed to touch all of the eggs and who knew, maybe history would be made and a gold would choose a man. He chuckled alittlee as he laid his hand on the smooth shell, the colors certainly were beautiful and the happiness flowing off this egg was amazing! He foung himself smiling brightly, whoever was inside was quite nice and he liked the feel of it's mood and the way it reacted to him. He kept smiling, lingering at the Kind and Keen Egg

Niyx

While some of the other candidates were light hearted and looking forward to having another hatching so very close to the last Niyx was one of the few who lagged back. Her usually skipping steps and somewhat distracted, but easy smile where no where to be found. This would be her third touching to attend and third hatching to stand for and with so little time between layings she was still smarting somewhat from the last round of dragons. Niyx when asked claimed that she was just worried about another threat to the eggs after what had happened with the last clutch. But only perhaps Ailin knew the real reason for her more somber mood. A dragon not meant for her had stolen the young woman's heart and like her friend before her Niyx found herself picking up the pieces. Pieces and pain that were harder still to pick up for the young woman who had until then yet to know the sting of unrequited love.

Stepping onto the sands and approaching the eggs she like the others bent at the waist giving a perfect, but somewhat mechanical bow to the Queen before turning to the eggs staring at them for a moment before forcing herself to approach. Not feeling particularly social Niyx circled around the edge of the clutch her boots sinking into the damp sands as she towed along the edge of the flooded hatching area before pausing and stopping in front of the Rolly Polly egg. The last few candidates that had been paying it attentions had left leaving the almost furry looking egg by itself as they moved onto it's bigger siblings. Reaching out a gentle hand Niyx rested on the eggs surface only to find herself pleasantly surprised by the lingering spark of quiet yet thoughtful intelligence that rose to greet her. The ancientcrafter couldn't help, but ponder what the egg was thinking on. Was it formula's? She wondered her own thoughts straying to her neatly drawn designs and patterns the careful equations lining the page like the gleaming web of a spinner spiderwebbing out around the sketches. Stroking the shell gently she wondered if she'd get the chance to have a conversation with the little dragon when it hatched and despite herself Niyx found herself somewhat looking forward to the hatching. Giving a gentle good bye the young woman stood and stretched moving on to the next waiting egg.

Next up was the Easily Agitated egg with it's calico shell. The dragonet inside though seemed much happier to wiggle and jerk then to see Niyx. Under her hands the shell only gave a few bucks and then laid still leaving the candidate to glance around for the next egg she would greet as she worked her way through the clutch.

The Easily Agitated egg's sibling the Territorial Egg was next to be greeted as Niyx paused to admire it's green striped shell. It almost looked like so many waves of sea side reeds and hoping for a more peaceful personality she stretched her hand out to touch the shell. Only to find herself draw in with a possessive and warm welcome that reminded her somewhat of some of the more silver tongued boys. The egg seemed welcoming of her drawing her in almost as if she belonged to it. Like she was one of it's possessions. Pulling her hand back she felt the last tugs of the egg's personality trying to draw her in as her fingertips brushed the shell and then it was gone. Giving herself a little shake she eyed the green and striped egg with a bit more wary consideration before moving on.

The rich blue of the Vibrant egg was the next to be greeted by Niyx as the young woman reached out to touch it's shining shell. Her greeting was met with pride and a marked protectiveness of it's siblings that made the young woman smile. It was a good egg to look after it's brothers and sisters and giving it a gentle pat she searched for the next egg to touch before moving on.

Meroc

The Journeyman harper wasted little time when he got onto the sands. With an impressive flourish of his rather widebrimmed hat he bowed low and formally to the Queen with a gesture fit to greet one of her station. Holding his pose for a moment he finally rose and striding. . . no strutting with complete confidence he walked up to the Discreet egg resting his hand on it's shell only to find it quietly examining him in turn not letting anything loose about just what it thought of him. An astute business ideal if he ever saw one. Best to not give away information when you could price it and sell it. Giving a nodding approval and a winning grin he gently patted the egg before moving on to the next one.

Bending to it's sibling The Guardian egg Meroc finds himself quickly rebuffed. Catching his own frown he replaces it with a smile not wanting to let on that the egg seemed none to fond of him for his well. . .less astute dealings. Still at least it was polite about it and he found himself urged firmly to move on and move on he did. Straightening he dusted himself off and glanced around spying a familiar figure up in the stands waiting a moment he moved to catch Cai's eye giving the healer turned dragonrider a rather jaunty wink and a roguish smile before he moved on.

The next egg to be greeted was the Antsy egg. With the bright purple egg bucking under his hand Meroc couldn't help, but let out a laugh the sound a full throated mirthful thing as she stroked the shining shell. Of course the Antsy egg would do something impressive! It was clearly before it even broke shell a very impressive egg as things stood and far from withholding compliments all Meroc had for the egg was good thoughts and warm silken admiration. So when it came time to move he found himself somewhat reluctant to leave, but leave he did.

Tacelon

The next egg Tacelon saw was the large Discreet Egg, and he almost didn't approach it. The largest egg in a gold clutch would undoubtedly contain a bronze, which would be too good for the likes of him. But he didn't want to upset the queen farther by avoiding any of her eggs, so he went over to rest a hand on it. At least it gave him no reason to linger. All he felt from it was a presence of something inside, maybe watching, but giving nothing else. After a moment or two when he was sure he'd get no reaction, Tacelon left.

Next he headed for the brightly-colored Vibrant Egg. It was hard not to see the blue egg, one of the most eye-catching in the clutch. He wondered if the personality inside would be as he went to lay his hand on it. He immediately felt a clear sense of pride, proving that this was not a shy or subtle egg like some of the others in the clutch. But neither was it overpowering, a fact that Tacelon appreciated. Still, the unwavering pride made him feel slightly uncomfortable, seeing as it was something in rather short supply for the neigh-voiceless Harper. He lingered only a moment before moving on.

A very little egg was next, small enough that he had to stoop down a bit to rest his hand on the shell. The Glowing Egg immediately reminded him of the last egg, as it exuded such a feeling of utter confidence that is similarly left him feeling uncomfortable. It seemed to be examining him very closely, so he did give it a moment to consider him before moving on.

There were only four eggs left for him to touch and he wasn't exactly sure which ones he should go to next. There was the red egg and he saw a candidate move away from it so he came up beside the little egg, tilting his head at the feel of his hands on the shell, theGlowing Egg felt as though it was preening itself. He glanced down at his slightly dirty hand touching the egg and frowned as suddenly he felt a pang in his temple similar to the one some of the other eggs gave him. "Sorry." He muttered as he pulled his hand away, looking down at them again and rubbing them clean as best he could as he moved on to the next one. This time moving onto the Vibrant Egg, it's blue exterior made him almost want to draw it. And all of the eggs as well, they were all so amazing to look at and he smiled as he laid a hand on the blue egg, he felt something inside, as if the dragon inside was listening. He glanced form the corner of his eye seeing the Antsy Egg shift and felt the presence inside the Vibrant shift as if it was paying attention to it's sibling.

Roan smiled at the egg. "What a good big brother...or sister." He said with a chuckle as he patted the egg and moved on, only 2 more now.

The last two were quite small considering their siblings and he moved towards teh little...fur-covered shell? He reached out, surprised to feel hard shell instead of fur. It looked almost lifelike and he grinned alittle at the little egg, this little one might end up looking very unique indeed! It was even rounder than the rest, almost like a circle? He rubbed against the shell, the Rolly Polly Egg seemed like it was looking at him, thinking hard. "you're gonna be smart aren't you?" He asked softly to the egg as he rubbed it's side and moved on. He didn't know if he would get that egg, but he couldn't wait to see what a shell like that kept inside!

One more to go. He headed towards the egg he had left for last. It's white surface made him wonder. He had heard about white dragons. Could this shell mean that the one inside is a legendary white? He touched the surface and felt a soft push and then it pulled away, like it was waiting for him to respond. He couldn't help smiling, he had done that alot since he joined those on the sands. "Hello there." He whispered, the push was back and he grinned alittle more as he lingered there abit longer than he supposed he should, the Temperate Egg Keeping his attenion before he realized he was finished. He didn't want to anger the mother dragon so he pulled his hand away with an apology and bowed to the queen as he assumed he should and headed off the sands to make room for the other candidates. He didn't know if he woud get a dragon, but from touching all the eggs, he couldn't wait to meet the dragons they held!!

Ildresaak paced onto the Sands with little to no attention to the water that sloshed around his feet and ankles as he walked. This was surreal. He had gone from repairing buildings to being told he might have what it took for Candidacy...and here he was looking at a tiny island of dry sand, all that had been safe from the storm, that settled a gold and a collection of eggs. It felt like a dream, and the discomfort of water seeping into his boots was next to nothing as he approached Cepheith. Other people were there already, moving among the eggs. Ildresaak ducked his head slightly as he approached the clutch, and only when he was finally stepping out of the water and onto the sand did he think to look up.

...Shards, gold dragons were so big. "Thank you," he murmured, dropping a low bow to Cepheith and Narisa. "You must be uncomfortable, what with the storm damage..." he trailed off, awkwardly, wondering if there were any way they could remove a majority of water. He supposed they could dig a trench, or even perhaps start some kind of a siphon...there must be easier ways than hand-bailing with buckets, the way he had seen some people do. It would help the gold be more comfortable, and make this all easier. Poor creature.

Awkwardly, he realized he had been staring and ducked his head. Right. He was here to touch eggs. Was there some kind of a pattern to this? Were they supposed to pick certain eggs and touch them first? He didn't know. He supposed he'd pick somewhere to start, and then just...go from there. And the largest egg in the clutch seemed like as good a place as any. He approached the Discreet egg slowly, resting his hand on its shell and jerking it back almost immediately. It had been thinking! Ildresaak stared for a moment, then looked down at his hand. Was this how they all felt? That one had seemed...well, like it was weighing him. Assessing him. It made him anxious.

He touched the Guardian egg next, brushing his fingers over one of its striking markings. But the dragon inside seemed to be looking for...something that wasn't him. Calm and collected and judgmental. Ildresaak pulled his hand away again, impulsively murmuring an apology to the egg and turning to another one. A tiny yellow thing near the Guardian egg caught his eye, and he approached the Kind and Keen egg curiously, bending down to brush his fingers over the shell. It couldn't be a gold; it was so small...but oh! The dragon inside this one was not quite so busy as the Discreet egg, nor so firm as the Guardian egg. It was quiet, and seemed...happy to be there. And there was something about it that seemed bright, too. It was curious? Maybe? He wasn't sure.

"Aren't you something," he murmured before withdrawing his hand and moving on.

Strictly speaking, Corloss wasn’t sure if he was permitted to be here or not. He was of the correct age, and he had been a Trine resident for a turn, but… Well, he’d never truly considered Candidacy in any serious sense. He was too old, and not enough of – whatever it was they wanted from dragonriders. He kept his feet on the ground, while plenty of the weyrbrats seemed to have their heads in the sky.

But while thus far no Searchdragon had given him much of a sniff, he nonetheless felt a certain obligation to at least visit the current clutch. The last one had turned out so disastrously – he felt a pang of guilt on behalf of every guard at Trine that there had been stolen eggs, and he was entirely intent on making sure nothing too bad happened to this little group. So with that in mind, he was just visiting to make sure the water levels weren’t too high and they didn’t need more bailing, right? That was acceptable… and while he was there he’d touch a few eggs because they were there and they needed touching.

He waded into the water with a stoic lack of hesitation, approaching the Discreet Egg first. Admittedly, he wasn’t sure what to expect. He’d never touched a dragon egg before. He knew vaguely that they were aware at Touchings and might give off a faint impression of their personalities, which seemed odd for an unborn animal. This one was the biggest in the clutch, which usually meant ‘large male dragon’ as far as Corloss understood it, but… It didn’t give off much of a feeling, really. Maybe it wasn’t interested in him. Corloss couldn’t blame it.

The next one, the Antsy Egg, was considerably more active. It wiggled and shivered under his touch, and as he laid his hand on it Corloss found himself getting antsy too. It was just itching to get out, and Corloss found himself picking up the pace as he moved from egg to egg, already feeling restless.

Was the next egg… eyeballing him? Corloss eyeballed the Watchful Egg right back, unimpressed with its shenanigans. He definitely didn’t like the idea of an egg rooting around through his thoughts, poking into things he didn’t want an egg in. Now that was just rude and unnecessary. He was fine with dragons, but he wasn’t fine with them poking around in the personal parts of his mind! Those were his, and his alone! He didn’t wait around for it to dismiss him, but moved on abruptly when it started poking at things that Corloss didn’t want poked.

The Obnoxious Egg was even worse, as was its sibling the Territorial Egg Too loud! The both of them were too loud and too annoying, like having a Harper playing loud off-key music too close to his ear… except that the sensation was in his mind, not a physical sensation, so it couldn’t even be blocked out. Fortunately he could simply remove his hand and leave those two eggs alone… He honestly pitied whoever paired up with those two. Shells, they wouldn’t be able to get a moment’s peace and quiet.

Finally, the Glowing Egg wasn’t quite as bad as the ones before it. Corloss got a sharp and irritable rebuke for the state of his hands – really? – and he sheepishly pulled them back to wipe them on the fabric of his clothes before trying again. This didn’t seem to be enough to satisfy the egg. Oh well. He’d been working hard bailing water before this; it was inevitable that he’d get a little mud under his nails. What was the dragon so prissy about anyway? Dragons ate raw meat, and that was a lot messier than a bit of mud.

The guard lingered for a good while by the Kind and Keen Egg, just because… well, it was pleasant, and it was neither poking irritatingly at corners of his mind, nor was it yelling at him. It seemed curious enough, and Corloss was more than willing to let it poke at his thoughts about the outside world. That was perfectly fine with him; if it was curious about what the world outside was like, he could share that. He just… didn’t want baby dragons trying to psychoanalyze him, which was completely different. So he stayed by the brightly colored and patched egg for a while, before moving on at last.

Much like the Discreet Egg, the Temperate Egg was quiet compared to many of its siblings. There was a gentle push on his mind, but nothing too forward, and the egg itself was perfectly still beneath his hands. He thought that the Easily Agitated Egg would be the same, at first – it was only rocking very gently when he first touched it, then wiggled more frantically when he placed his and on it. Corloss retreated hastily, sending it a mental apology. Shells, he hadn’t meant to scare the little thing, or… whatever he’d done.

The Vibrant Egg was one of the brightest in the clutch, and certainly full of confidence for a creature not even properly hatched yet. Corloss approved of the protective feeling he got from it. Good for it. Hopefully it would turn out to be as strong as it thought it was. If not, then hopefully it would find a rider who could foster the good in it… They said that dragons did not choose wrongly.

There were only two eggs left, Corloss realized with some surprise. It seemed that the Antsy egg had rubbed off on him after all; he’d moved through the eggs with some haste, as many Candidates seemed to be leaving the sands already. Corloss didn’t want to draw attention to himself by being one of the last to leave, lest someone notice him and tell him he wasn’t allowed to be there. The Rolly Polly Egg got a pat on the shell and a brief mental admonishment don’t hurt yourself thinking too hard. Little guy shouldn’t be pondering such deep thoughts already, there would be plenty of time for that.

Yet despite his haste to leave, the Guardian Egg more or less stopped him in his tracks. What he’d initially intended as only an offhand brush, a quick touch before catching up to the others (was that Ildresaak he saw over there?) turned into something that genuinely caught Corloss’ attention. He fell still, unconsciously straightening his back a little, as if he were being inspected by a particularly stern drill instructor whom he wanted to impress. Yet after a moment, he seemed to pass its approval. A slow smile crept across his face, and he withdrew with care, feeling a bit better about the upcoming clutch. Despite the small size of the egg, he was quite sure it had a capable guardian.

He offered one last bow of farewell to the irritable queen, before moving on to join the others.

From Kind and Keen, Ildresaak's attention turned to the massive egg beside it, and he laid a hand on Watchful's shell thoughtfully. That one earned a hand pulled away quickly, though, and the young smith grimaced. Nooo, thank you, that would be plenty. He really had no interest in an egg delving deep into his psyche and finding all the things he didn't want. That was terrifying to him, especially with S'aak's disappearance still weighing heavily on his mind. He shook his head, brushing his hand over one of the eggs beside Watchful. Obnoxious didn't seem to get along with him, either, and Ildresaac snatched his hand back, clutching his hands to his chest as he looked at it. "Ouch, Faranth," he said quietly, looking at the egg with an expression of dismay. Then a sheepish glance at the golden mother. That probably wasn't how one was supposed to approach a dragon's children at all.

He laid his hands on the Temperate egg instead, and that one earned a slight smile, the briefest upward quirk of his mouth. Yes, this was more his speed. Hello, little one. He lingered on it for a moment, brushing his fingers over the shell fondly before moving onto the vibrant purple egg beside it. He jumped a little when the Antsy egg moved under his hand, but there didn't seem to be any malice behind the little thing. Just eager to get out there and do its thing. "It'll be soon, don't worry," he murmured, wondering if talking to the eggs was allowed or forbidden or what. He had no idea. Ah well. Nobody would shout at him for a few comments, right?

The tiny reddish Glowing egg was the subject of his attentions next, and it seemed sweet enough. Ildresaak's hands were clean, for once, and the interest of the dragonet was acute, but not invasive. Still, he moved on quickly, fingers brushing the sparkling Vibrant egg's shell. Bright, and noisy, but in a good way. It wanted to keep things safe? Other eggs, or people? Either way, it was a good attitude to have, in the world into which the little dragon would be born. "Hello," he whispered, and then straightened up. Three eggs left to touch.

The Territorial egg got the briefest brush of fingers before Ildresaak straightened up and dodged away, moving far enough from the eggs that one of his feet splashed in sandy water before he realized that he had allowed an unborn dragon to startle him almost straight off the Sands. Sheepishly, casting around to see if anyone had noticed, he slunk back, reaching down and tracing his fingers over the patterns on the Easily Agitated egg. The orange-and-white egg didn't seem to want to talk to him, and so Ildresaak moved on, tracing his fingers over the marks on Rolly Polly. That one, fat little thing that it was, managed to bring a smile to the smith's face. He liked it almost as much as he had enjoyed the presence of the Kind and Keen egg. He allowed himself to stroke the shell once, before straightening up. Technically, he had finished, now. He should go. But...

No, going back to an egg would be stupid, no matter how fond he was of it. And so the Kind and Keen egg got a brief smile, before Ildresaak turned away and moved quickly off the Sands. He still wanted to see what he could do to help clear the water out of the area as soon as possible. Straight to the drawing board, that was Ildresaak.

Tacelon

Tacelon next approached a smaller egg, one with a darker shell than most in the clutch. As soon as he put his hand on the shell, he was aware that the occupant was aware of him, and seemed to be looking him over. He let the dragonet examine him, since that seemed to be half the point of the touching, but if it had any opinions, it kept it to itself. After a bit he moved on.

Next up was another particularly bright egg, and a particularly active one, too. The purple Antsy Egg was visibly moving every time Tacelon spotted it, but when he saw it had finally sat still for a bit he went over to rest a hand on it. The dragonet seemed quite pleased with itself, and eager to keep moving again, though perhaps a bit tired from its exertions. This one would probably burst right out of its shell come Hatching day, if it didn't wear itself out first. It seemed to be gathering its strength for a new bout of wiggling, so he left it to it.

He headed for a nearby egg, one whose shell was quite bright, almost golden, though the Kind and Keen Egg was too small for a queen. As soon as he touched the shell he was greeted by a presence that seemed genuinely happy to meet him. It was a refreshing change from many of the other eggs, most of which had seemed to be keeping to themselves or concerned with something else. So he lingered a bit to try and return the feeling of being pleased to meet it. He couldn't stay long though, there were other eggs to touch, but he gave the egg a tiny pat as he moved on.

Another small egg was nearby, the Temperate Egg. This one was another with a more subtle presence, one that seemed content with a small nudge of a feeling, perhaps a greeting. He tried to return the feeling, then found it was giving him another light push, as if inquiring politely about something. It felt like it was trying to make small talk, but Tacelon had had little experience at that lately, so he was at a loss. After a bit of awkward silence (he was silent with all the eggs, but somehow it still felt awkward this time), he tried to offer something akin to a feeling of 'excuse me,' and headed off.

The Watchful Egg was next to be approached. Touching this shell revealed another dragonet who was content to keep to itself and examine him. He bore its scrutiny patiently, even though he had the niggling feeling that this one might be noticing things he would not be proud of. Well, there was quite a lot he wasn't proud of, so it had its pick of things to pry at. After a moment the egg gave a firm push, letting him know his presence wasn't required any longer. Well, if the egg said so, there was no reason to hang around.

Only one egg left, the Obnoxious Egg. Tacelon was already turning his thoughts to what he'd be working on next after the hatchling as he placed a hand on the shell. The overwhelming force of the personality inside sent him stumbling, even though he'd been standing still. Definitely not an egg to come to while distracted. The dragonet inside seemed to be all apology and excitement now though, so he gathered it wasn't malicious, just eager. This egg also seemed curious, but it was a feeling of general curiosity instead of wondering about him in particular. This one would likely be a handful to keep up with. As he was about the pull his hand away, the egg seemed disappointed and seemed to want him to stay. He hesitated a moment, but had to try and convey his regrets before stepping back. None of the others had seemed to want him to stay, and no matter what motivations this one might have, it was nice to feel he was wanted for just a moment.

And that was the last of them. Tacelon looked around the sands to make sure he hadn't missed any before bowing once more to the queen (for good measure). Then he sloshed back through the water in the lower areas of the ground and returned to the constant rebuilding efforts.
