The second the bat sent the ball flying into the field with a satisfying crack, Efflo dropped it, bolting for first base. He didn’t see where it went or if Gabby was going to catch it, he just ran as fast as he could. That was what Gabby had said to do, so that was what he was going to do.

Up, up, and away the ball went, and Gabby jumped up to try and catch it, but it was far higher than he could make it with a single jump, so he dropped down to the ground and started running for it. He ignored that Efflo was running the bases, because his job was to get that ball back and stop him from making it home.
So when he eventually found the ball in the brush, and turned to see where Efflo was, he flapped his wings hard and started coasting, close to the ground, to try and stop him. From where he was, it felt like he was going to be able to catch the boil between bases, but the question was - which base should he take?

Unfortunately for Efflo, his strategy seemed to all or nothing, which would make Gabby’s decision very simple. He apparently hadn’t learned from his bending over fiasco. By the time Gabby snagged the ball, Efflo was rounding second. He didn’t pause, and continued his sprint to third, doing his best to ignore the flapping of wings his ears caught behind him.

Efflo was going to make it to third. He could tell, and he could also tell he wasn't quite going to make it before him.. which meant there was only one last chance.
Gabby slowed down, and landed on his feet, choosing to run the rest of the way. He was keeping just behind Efflo, just enough until the boil made it to third. Once he was there, Gabby stayed back, waiting for Efflo to take that chance. Was he going to try to steal home? Or was he going to play it safe? It all meant trying to be faster than Gabby, who was waiting, predatorial smile across his face, for Efflo's move.

Efflo had no plans of staying put, by now the desire to win baseball had been replaced by his instinct to RUN! from anything that chased him. Still, he couldn’t help but take one last shot at the dragon. He paused only momentarily at third, just long enough to wiggle his hips tauntingly and to throw back a cheeky grin, before he was off again, galloping to the finish.
“Catch me if you can!”

The thrill of the hunt began. Gabby let out a grunt, surprisingly ignoring every taunt that was thrown at him, because all he could see was the prey, and all he could think was that he had to win. So he lunged forward, wings outstretched and lifting him forward quicker than his legs could have ever carried him, until he was standing in front of home plate with a cheeky horse barrelling towards him. He planted his feet hard, and then pushed off, lunging forward again to overtake the boil in a jump. His arms were around Efflo in mere seconds, lifting him off the ground until they were rolling headfirst down into it. Around and around they went, until Gabby felt himself on top, and pinned the boil down with all of his arms and legs.
The look on his face was more animal than boil.
"You're. Out." He growled down at Efflo, showing just a little too much teeth.

By the time he saw Gabby dive towards him, it was too late. Efflo tried to spin around, to escape but the dragon’s arms closed around him, pulling him back and then they were toppling, tumbling to the ground. He landed, pinned onto his back with a soft oomph! The ponyboil tried to wriggle and squirm, maybe he was able to get away he could avoid being out. Or at the very least, find a place to hide from the toothily grinning predator that used to be his boilfriend.
Futilely he struggled, refusing to give up as he glowered up at Gabby. Unable to move his arms or legs, he bucked his hips, causing his shorts to dip dangerously low. He growled right back at Gabby; he wasn’t going to win without a fight.
“Don’t you have to touch me with the ball?” he snapped, glaring.

Efflo's attempts to get out of his hold just made his victory that much sweeter. He was right, after all - Gabby had all but forgotten about the ball, which had fallen out of his glove and was sitting somewhere far away. He didn't look very concerned, as he leaned in, his sharp teeth just a touch too close to Efflo's face for comfort.
"Who says I'm not?" He purred, the growl in his voice and danger lurking behind his eyes gone. He was pacified, by the mere opening of a perfect innuendo. Good job, Efflo. Good job.

He ceased struggling when Gabby moved in, gaze trained on those teeth. Efflo turned his face away, suddenly aware that he was trembling. The adrenaline and thrill of the game mixing in with his natural fear of those sharp teeth being bared so close was exhilarating. He closed his eyes for a moment, steadying his breath. When he opened them again, they narrowed mischievously, the boil smiling coyly.
“If it’s not the baseball, it doesn’t count. Besides… It feels more like you picked up the bat.”

Touché, Efflo. Touché. Gabby's smile closed just enough to hide those teeth, and he giggled at the retort, which was as close to admitting anything as he was going to get. Then he rolled off the boil, and sat up, brushing dust off of his outfit.
"Are we done yet?" He asked, clearly exasperated. "Can I take you inside now?"

Once free, Efflo sat up as well before getting to his feet, hastily hiking up his shorts to avoid a disastrous wardrobe malfunction. Next time he played 'sports' with Gabby, he was wearing a full-body suit.
“Fine, I guess, do what you want cheater,” he shot back as he stared down at Gabby, but he was doing a very poor job at holding back his grin.

"CHEATER!?" Gabby roared, staring at Efflo incredulously, as though this statement had wounded his dear, innocent heart. Then his gaze got distracted with shorts.. damnit.
That was a poor choice on Gabby's part. No, wait, he changed his mind as he kept staring.. good choice. Great choice. Terrible choice. He couldn't think anymore.
"Okay. One more. ONE MORE SPORT and then we go." He shuffled on his hands and knees over to the equipment, and looked at the two balls left. Football, soccer.. it was an easy choice. He picked up the football and got to his feet. Holding the football palmed in one hand above his shoulder, he gestured wildly with his other hand. "Go long."

Efflo blinked at him stupidly. “Long?”
To be fair, he had been waiting for the dragon to swoop him up and carry him inside. He was distracted by being as incredulous at hearing 'one more sport' as Gabby had been at being called a cheater.

Oh, right.. that wasn't a phrase Efflo would have ever been familiar with. He stopped holding the ball next to his shoulder. "Uh, go far away, so I can throw the ball at you from a long distance. Then you have to catch it - and if you do, you run, as fast and hard as you can, back over here. My job is to stop you from making it here." He padded the white line they'd been tussling on a moment ago, with his clawed feet. "If you make it here, you win the point. So, I guess.. go long."
A tiny smile escaped, as he realized just how much he actually liked enlightening his boilfriend on all these terms. "Hey, wait." Before Efflo could run away, Gabby jogged forward, leaned in, and pressed a soft, chaste kiss to his lips. His eyes closed, and he inhaled the boils scent, for just a moment.
"Okay." He whispered heavily. "Go long."

Okay, let him get this straight. All he wanted Gabby to do right now was catch him in those strong arms of his, and whisk him away somewhere private. Instead, Efflo had to run far away, catch the ball, and then make it back to this particular spot all the while pretending he didn’t want to be caught by the dragon when that was all he wanted. It seemed like an awfully detoured way to get from point A to point B. He sighed and turned to sprint off, wondering how exactly the tables had turned when Gabby caught him, pulling him into a quick gentle kiss.
It definitely didn’t help matters, as far as Efflo was concerned, but it did make him more willing to humor his boilfriend and go long. He ran until he was almost at the other end of the field, and waited, trying to stay focused.
