"My division doesn't deal heavily with energy quotas," he remarked, trying to pull himself back into the conversation. His mind had begun to wander, thinking of the death of his father. "My absence has been noted but understood," he continued, pulling the straws from the cup and downing the tonic in one swoop. "Circumstances have left me," he paused, swallowing the lump in his throat while he tried to figure out the best word, "unstable."
Unstable was a good word.
Unstable was the perfect word.
"But I have taken measures to stabilize myself, I should be back in the game shortly," he reassured, though he could tell that Ever didn't care much. "And thank you," he said, looking at the white-haired man with a half-smile. "For reminding me that they care."
He found himself looking at the watch on his wrist, the hands displaying an unfavorable time. "I apologize, but I have some things I need to attend to." There were some things, but really Chase was feeling antsy and wanted to escape. He was too out of touch when it came to social interactions to be comfortable for long. "Another time?" He offered before sliding out of his seat and slipping away.

"Any time you need; I'm not a hard guy to find." He tipped his head back as Chase stood, one hand raised in a wave -- someone who did care, to some degree, yes. Whether the rest of the Negaverse did was a different story, of course, and he didn't care enough to ask about Chase's personal life.
If he wanted to talk about it, he'd talk about it.
Otherwise -- Ever just let him go, lingering to drink a few more himself.
