Well. Leave it to cats to save the mood. Remarque forced his lips to curl into a slight smile; he wasn't entirely pleased with any of the cats they affiliated with.
If only they'd had guardian dogs…
But, the girls seemed to like the cats, and to be fair, they were at least useful. Even if they were pests. "They are adorable," he affirmed—as if he believed such.
Dahlia was a nice enough cat, if not a bit full of herself. Sylvia was snarky, Hiro…he hadn't seen since he'd first identified Remarque to Ares when he'd first awakened.
And then there was Lyssa.
Terror of all cats, capable of instilling trace amounts of fear into him.
And yet, she seemed to be the one he ran into most.
Avacyn's opinion of talking cats would change soon, he had no doubt.
"Magical ninjas is an…interesting way to describe it, though I suppose, in a way. Yes."
He'd have said just about anything to try and get her to settle into her role a little easier. "Protectors of earth, explorers of space." Or, at least, they were trying to be. "The underdogs in this whole thing. Steadily growing in numbers. There is a menace in Destiny City, a plague, and it is our duty to cure who we may, when we can. The others, the 'terrorists' are not wholly at fault. They were brought into this war, brainwashed, and abandoned. That we know of, they've had no contact with the woman they are supposed to serve. They are floundering, lost. Ideally, we'd like to save the senshi. But," he shrugged. "They are ignorant and cannot find fault in their actions. They could be saved, but most would rather fight. Speaking of—can you fight? Have you ever, before?"

Avacyn chuckled at the look on his face. "I take it you aren't a cat person?"
With as much as she of a cat person as she was, it was a wonder that people didn't mistake her for a crazy cat lady more often then they did. Although, in her situation, the number of cats might be outweighed by her love of them...
She had felt that "magical ninja" might not be the most appropriate occupation to compare her new position to, but the right words had failed her and now she hoped Remarque wouldn't think her too horribly immature.
As their discussion shifted, the unknown senshi grew serious. It was difficult to understand how anyone in need of guidance would be so arrogant as to not only refuse the help offered to them, but attack the Samaritan. Brainwashed or not, antics like those were not acceptable.
"I've been in a few fights, but," she began to blush. "They were girl fights, you know? Hair pulling, smacking... I ripped an earring out of this chick's ear once." Her cheeks were now tinted a deep shade of pink.
After all, in a war with magical beings, what good would any of those tactics do?

Remarque did not seem disappointed; he cracked a smile at her words. "You embarrassed about that? That's good, there's nothing to be ashamed of. Shows that you're not afraid to get your hands dirty and you're willing to stand up for yourself. Which is good, that's just what we need. While we are protectors, violence isn't our only method. It's just good to know that you can take care of yourself because there are people who will want to stop you. Who don't understand your cause and don't take the time to actually listen to you. Not that we're going to go out and ask you to pick fights. Just talking, is fine. Anything you have to offer, is fine. As long as you remember that you are now a pivotal part of the fate of this earth and that your existence determines the safety of you and all your loved ones. But hey, that's no pressure, right?"
He kept his smile, and in an attempt to lighten the mood a bit, relaxed. "It's not as hard as it sounds. Or, at least, you'll get used to it. Plus, there are the perks. Travelling through mirrors, super human capabilities. Though, those might be for another day—unless you're up for it, tonight. Otherwise, I suppose for now all you need to know is that you are important, and you are needed, and that the Dark Mirror Court is honored to have you amongst their ranks."

Her blush faded and a smile lifted her lips. Even as the Dark Mirror Senshi stressed the importance of Avacyn's role, she didn't feel overly burdened; she wasn't alone.
"So how long did it take you to get used to this stuff?" The pink-haired girl noticed the black wings attached to Remarque's lower back, a detail her uniform lacked. "And where do I get a pair of those?"
"Ooh! Start with the mirror stuff! Tell me more about this magical ninja s**t!" Avacyn couldn't help but laugh - at herself mostly, but also at the ironic turn her night had taken.
Still giggling a bit, she wiped her eye and straightened up before speaking again. "Thanks, Remarque."

"It's no problem," Remarque said; her laughter put all his concerns at ease and he rolled his shoulders a bit to work out the kinks as he started answering her questions. "Now, let's see. It didn't take me long to get used to things—I just sort of jumped right into them. The wings," of which he was used to answering questions about, "Came after a few months. Just something flashy. A badge of honor, sort of."
…More like a peacock showing off, but he didn't really care. The wings used to annoy him, but he'd since become quite proud of them.
"Which you'll earn, after you get a little more practice in. You want to experiment with mirrorwalking? That is, how to walk through one mirror and out of another. When you get stronger, you'll be able to stop midwalk and take a break here, in mirrorspace," he gestured to the area around them, "but it takes a hell of a lot of focus, so we'll save that for later. Mirrorwalking doesn't take nearly so long to master—and it's something you'll use often. Makes life a hell of a lot easier."

Avacyn's interest in his wings peaked, her voice higher pitched and full of excitement. "I can get a pair?! That's so awesome!!!"
Pink tendrils swept upward behind the senshi as she sprinted to the nearest mirror. "Let's get started! What do I do?! Where does this mirror go?!" Her enthusiasm bubbled over as she jabbed the mirror with her index finger and caused its metallic surface to ripple.
She stopped short with her foot nearing the mirror in attempt to walk through it. "Woohoo! No more horrible bus ri-Wait. I can't get back here? I thought this was like 'headquarters' or something."

A smile lingered on Remarque's face; enthusiasm was something he hadn't seen enough of in recent days and it was more of a relief than he was willing to share to know that not only did they have a way to bring new members into the Court without Ares. "Not yet," he clarified. "You don't have the ability to focus enough to stop midstep. But, I'll tell you what. If you ever want to come here, just give me a call and I'll come get you. We can—Oh, wait."
Compact. She needed a compact. And probably a shard. Even if the wraiths were acting up, she couldn't very well gather energy without one.
"You know, stay right here."
He turned, looked around, and walked through the nearest mirror. For only a moment, he was gone; when he stepped out he held a compact and a shard. While their supplies were limited, Ares had not left them with nothing. "Here," he said, presenting the compact, first. "You just open it, look in the mirror. We can talk through them. Mine'll go off and I'll be able to show up anywhere you need me in half a second. Well. Provided there's a mirror nearby, but with as many as there are in this town, that shouldn't be a problem. And here," he held out the shard next. "Hold onto this. We'll go over how to use this another time, but for now just keep it safe. Now, ready to head out?" he asked, one hand on the mirror in front of him and the other extended for her to take once she had the compact and shard.

The Dark Mirror senshi nodded and watched her mentor disappear, then reappear through a mirror, bearing gifts: a compact communicator and a small shard.
"This is awesome!!!" Avacyn exclaimed as she flipped the compact open for a moment. "Thanks, Remarque!" She smiled, noticing a beam of light reflecting from the shard, and wondered what this tiny piece could do. But that was for a later date.
A few vigorous nods followed by a firm grasp on his hand. "Let's go," the girl chirped.Kyuseisha no Hikari So sorry about response time! >-<"

Remarque couldn't help but grin at her enthusiasm. "All right, then. Hold your breath," he said, though didn't hold his own. He'd been doing this for long enough that there was no longer the strange pressure on his chest, akin to that of jumping into a deep pool. The glass rippled beneath his touch and his hand slipped through; the rest of him followed shortly. His grip on Avacyn's hand was not tight enough to hurt, but strong enough to make sure he didn't lose her in the strange between of Mirrorspace and Destiny City.
When he stepped out, it was from a mirror on the outskirts of the park, near enough to civilization. There was a streetlight visible in the distance and the trickle of fountain water from somewhere nearby. He turned to look at Avacyn and released her hand only when they were both out and on solid ground. "Aaaand, it's as easy as that. Still in one piece, feeling okay?" he prompted, stretching as he readjusted to the warm evening.
Xevra I'm sorry for the wait time, too! ;;

Her trip out of mirrorspace and back to Destiny City was quite a lot like the trip in, though now she was less dizzy and confused, which was nice. As Remarque had advised, she held her breath, and so she was very glad to let it out once they were on the other side.
"Still in once piece, definitely feeling okay!" She replied, glancing down and confirming that yes, she was still in the crazy dress and no, going out of that strange place-between-places hadn't made her go back to being normal Avacyn. "So how do we find one of those talking cats you mentioned?" She really, really wanted to know what her new name was, and what she was the Senshi of, and pretty much everything about this strange new world she was being dumped into.
There was just so much to wonder about, to explore. What could she do with her new magical ninja powers? Maybe make things explode, or disappear, or something awesome like that? "And what else can we do, besides the mirrorwalking thing? You must have really awesome magic if you've got those wings." Leto had mentioned that people were the Senshi of something, and so she had to ask. "What's your thing?" Maybe she was bombarding him with questions.
Oops. Oh well, at least she was going to learn, right?

Remarque had expected questions, and sans the novelty of actually being present to see a senshi awaken, he knew the routine afterwards pretty well. There were always questions, and he had never minded answering them. "Puppetry," he replied casually; he had never been too shy to not talk about himself. He seemed to be looking around; he wasn't wholly sure how you actually got a talking cat without just accidentally running into them. He'd never really needed one; they just sort of showed up.
Of course, he had the option of just phoning a friend in the Negaverse—Benitoite would probably know where to find a cat.
It beat wandering around, kicking trashcans and searching for their specific aura.
"My magic's pretty handy. Mirrorwalking's a great perk. Plus, while you're like this you've got a huge physical boost. Faster, stronger. Fancy attacks to give you a boost in taking down opponents. Those special attacks are a little more personalized. So far as I know, everyone's got their own unique little thing. Which we'll figure out what you've got for yours once we find that cat. Come on," he gestured. "This might take a while. Do you want to grab a bite to eat or something, a cup of coffee? Figure that'll be enough to keep you energized while we go over all of this. I'll teach you to power down so you don't have to walk around like that while we get things in order. Sound all right?"

She filed away his answer. Puppetry sounded neat - he could probably control people, with powers like that! She wondered if she'd have something that cool. Her eyes flicked to the strings on his wings - those made a lot of sense, now. She wondered if there was any way to guess what she was from her outfit alone, but while the symbol on it looked kind of familiar, all she could be sure of was that she was probably not the Senshi of Time Lords.
Damn. That would've actually been pretty neat.
"So it's kind of like getting a boost in a video game?" That was pretty neat. She'd actually be useful, then, if she was faster and stronger and stuff. "Um, yeah, actually, food and coffee sounds really nice while we look. Are we uh, going like this?" She gestured down at her outfit. Could she just walk into a coffee shop or something looking like this? They'd think she was a terrorist, right? Maybe they would give her a free drink because they were scared. Except that would be kind of disappointing. "Do you know somewhere that caters to people like us? Oooh, do we have secret sympathizers all over the place?"
All of this was so new and wonderful and very, very exciting, and she would have to take in all of it.

Like a video game? Oh, she was one of those girls.
The weird ones.
Remarque quirked a brow, but that was all that visibly passed from his judgment. "There are sympathizers, I'm sure, but for everyone that's on our side, there's guaranteed to be someone who isn't. No, for this we're going to power down—that is, go back to being whoever you are beneath the senshi. As in, Avacyn. So let's do a quick how-to of that before we get out in public."
He relaxed, rolled his shoulders, and instructed her to do the same. "Breathe, take it easy. Just close your eyes if you have to, and envision what you were wearing. Think about who you are, or what you were doing, if you have to. And then all this magic just sort of washes away," almost on cue, the colors and feathers and strings disappeared, leaving just Jett. He brushed himself off, though there wasn't a spec of dirt on him. "And voila. Though, if you're doing that in public, you should make sure that there's no one around. Just to make sure they don't see who you are underneath that." He nodded to her outfit and then proceeded to cross his arms over his chest. "You're safe for now, so feel free to try it."

She nodded. That made sense, that it would work better to be herself rather than a Senshi when she went to get coffee, and she almost kicked herself for not thinking of that. She was just too caught up in the magic of all of it to even think of mundane explanations.
"Right, right, I got this," she said, and she took a few deep breaths, and the senshi disappeared, leaving plain Avacyn in her place. "I, uhm, wow, that was really easy." She spun around, eyes a little wide. She'd have to be really careful to make sure she didn't get caught, because if her enemies knew her real identity...yeah, that would be really really bad. "So, um, yeah - let's go get that cup of coffee?"Kyuseisha no Hikari We can wrap this one here?
