For Dance shows:

-DANCERS- BE NICE TO US TECHIES AND PEOPLE ON CREW! I just got done with a dnace show, none of them listen.

-Techies/CRew- When doing a dance show, expect the dancers not to listen. Also, they might scream and yell backstage so be prepared to yell constantly to get them to be quiet.

-Dancers(Atleast the ones at my school) don't really know theatre ettiquitte, be prepared to keep them in line.

-Sweep the marly(Sp...I can't spell today) and mop way before the show, or jsut make sure it dries. (We wound up having a big puddle in the center of the stage, and stage left, which caused the dancers to make a scene..not fun)

-expect people to bump into lights or get hurt.

+JUST IN GENERAL:

-energy drinks/tea/coffee anything that gives you energy is your friend.

-Build flats the way they're supposed to be be built.

-If you're just going to sit around doing nothing, then leave. You'll be in the way.

-Wear comfy clothes, especially shoes

-Lighting designers, you aren't gods, so don't act like one. (Ours does...its really annoying.)

After highliting your lines and putting your name on your script (both rather important) immediatly start memorizing lines. The sooner, the better, and the more the director will like you

If you were going to do something but forgot, be honest, don't lie.

When making paper mache rocks and you need them soon and they will be stored in the dark, just don't. Find something else to make it out of.

Same goes for homemade playdo objects (two important lessons my friends learned this last show)

Actors: take at least ONE techie class. It will help you and everyone else if you know a little bit about how to work stuff.

Techies: Takes at least ONE acting class, you never know when you'll be picked to substitute for a rehearsal...or show night.

Black really does make you invisible when backstage

Duct Tape really does fix everything

-Don't start talking before you are on stage.

Unless directed otherwise by the director (mine tends to like you starting your lines, thus eliminating blank space/dead air. We dont like those in comedies)

KNOW YOUR CUES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Know your lines
Write down your blocking in your script, you may need it someday. (roleswaps <3)
During roleswaps, we all know it's funny when guys play the female romantic lead and vice versa, don't be scared to have fun

When holding auditions: use a fun icebreaker that also helps you see people thinking on their feet. I use either dramatic readings of shel silverstien poems or ask them to give me their best spin on the pledge of allegiance.

ALWAYS have tape and safety pins on hand at all times!

As a director, do your homework before the first rehearsal! Know what you want to do so that you are experimenting with existing ideas during the process, not totally winging it!

if you want to look like you're having a converstion on stage when you're really not, mouth watermelon over and over to yourself or fellow actor(s).

Always look above the audience, never look at them directly
