"Well I wasn't planning on settling directly on the coast." he muttered but figured that trying to argue at this point was futile. It was better to get moving. He sighed and went and got a big drink, knowing it might be awhile before they stopped for such things again.

He did have to wonder though how fast the little mare would be able to travel. He figured that one of his strides would be two or possibly three of hers. Not a good ratio. Ah well best to start out at their normal pace and let her be the one to ask them to slow down. He figured if he started out trying to be considerate of her needs she'd just get irritated at him again for trying to treat her different, even if it was respectful.

"Everyone ready?" he asked looking over the others.

Aalun stood still as Zhang nosed her belly. It was sort of disconcerning to have the little mare do that, and she wondered if there was a good way to ask her to stop. She figured there probably wasn't and better to suffer in silence.

When she felt that she'd been prodded enough, she went and grabbed a last few mouthfuls of grass and a drink herself before nodding to Arthur. "I'm ready."

She moved to stand with him as they waited for the others to collect themselves and then followed Arthur's lead out of their camping spot.

"Then I want to go see the ocean for myself if we're not settling directly by it." Telaar stated, quite matter of factly as she bounced along behind them. "I want to see what makes it so great! You don't have to come if you don't want to when we get there. I'll be careful, maybe even I can find someone trustworthy there!" She beamed, hoping someday she'd find more friends to live within the herd that Arthur would accept.

Yue turned her head and whinnied slightly, looking down her nose at the berry bushes. "Ashyo, come, we're leaving!" She called. She waited long enough for the raccoon to climb aboard her back with a mouthful of berries then quickly dashed after the three in front of her.

"How far do you travel in one day?" The tiny mare asked, despite having just barely gotten started with them.

Arthur waited until everyone was ready then turned and started off in the general direction of the edge of the forest. It would be nice to get out from under all the trees, even if it did make things cooler more often or not. But being able to run without worrying about breaking a leg would be nice too.

When asked how far they traveled, Arthur had to do the math in his head. Being in the forest slowed them down, as had being in the foothills of the mountains before. Out in the open though..."Depends on the terrain. Up in the mountains we could only go a few miles a day due to rocks and all the climbing, under the trees we're about the same, out on the plains though...we could probably do about 15 miles probably more, as we're all in good shape." he said with a nod.

Now to wait and see what she'd say. Although Arthur figured she might try to use Aalun as an excuse not to walk so much in one day, so as to save her own pride, but whatever made her happy.

Aalun glanced back towards the little mare as Arthur gave her the answer. It would be interesting to see what she'd say to that. Aalun was more than aware that Yue would have problems keeping the pace at some point, but could also see what Arthur was doing. She turned her head back forward and smirked to herself. Despite his actions sometimes, her mate wasn't as stupid as he seemed sometimes.

"Arthur likes to make us walk a lot...more than I was ever used to. Even when I was leading others through the mountains, we rested a lot and I rarely traveled far from home when I was alone." Telaar stated, falling back to walk beside the little mare. "I guess he really wants to get us to...'home'?" She started, thinking the word over.

"A new home. Where we're going now! He wants us to get there fast now." She finished happily, eager to settle down.

Yue snorted as she listened to what Arthur and Telaar had to say. "That's far too much for an expecting mother." She stated matter of factly, clueless as to that being what they expected of her. "BUT--!" Yue continued, "The faster we reach a bedding ground, the less we'll have to worry about traveling with young foals."

Yue snorted as she finished, glancing up at the mountain mare and picked up the pace to trot alongside Arthur and Aalun. She knew she was going to have to be able to keep up herself. There was no more traveling at her own pace and she wasn't too keen on getting left behind now.

"Actually it's not. Pregnant mares in my herd were often expected to keep pace, do their own duties, and sometimes even fight. It was considered very lucky to be born in battle." Aalun said. She was making some of that up but Yue didn't need to know that. She was still more than capable of keeping pace thus far. That last part though hadn't been part of the exaggeration. It had been considered lucky to be born while the herd was in battle, you just probably weren't born in the middle of it but in a safe haven, close but not too close.

Of course she understood the need to salvage the little mare's pride, but she wasn't about to completely sacrifice her own.

Arthur snorted amused at Telaar. "Walking's good for you anyway. Besides you can out pace either of us with all that mountain training you got." If it weren't for all the rocks, Arthur would have considered a little mountain training, but all that scrambling around was definitely for cloven hooves like Aalun and Telaar.

"For now though I'd save breath for walking, and chit chat for our first break in a few hours." he said taking his own advice and clamming up.

Yue snorted at Aalun's words, and then turned her attention straight ahead to the 'road' before them. She figured at the rate they were going, provided Telaar didn't hold them back somehow, they would cover plenty of ground before nightfall. It was either that, or reach the place Arthur had spoke of to settle.

"But it's boring when no one talks!" Telaar protested, staring at the backs of all three of them. "...and now you're not gonna talk..." She sighed and resigned herself to following behind in silence for the rest of the day.

By the middle of the afternoon everything still looked much the same as it had earlier in the day. They were still under the trees, and hardly looked liked they'd made much progress at all. Arthur called a halt to let everyone eat, stretch and get some rest while he scouted ahead.

Aalun sighed a bit and leaned against a tree to scratch while her mate roamed ahead. She'd had a bug bite on her shoulder and it had been driving her nuts since the middle of the late morning stretch of their march.

"Everyone holding up okay?" she asked looking around. "I don't think we'll be going much further, maybe just a few miles more today. So just hang in there." she said with a smile. She then turned back and watched Arthur come back to them. She could tell by his body language that there was something he wanted to say, but was holding back. Flickers of a smile kept tugging at the corners of his mouth and then returning to a neutral expression.

"Everything okay, Arthur?"

Arthur nodded to her and came over to nuzzle her. "Fine, just fine. When everyone's ready we'll move out again." and that's all he would say.

Telaar groaned happily and flopped herself down in the grass where they had stopped. She was no stranger to walking several miles in a day, but at that moment it felt nice to just drop for a while. After a moment the fluffy mare raised her head and chomped at the grass in front of her face, all while refusing to get back on her feet.

"It's so nice here...and cool...and quite soft!" She noted through a mouthful of grass, taking in their surroundings.

"This isn't where we're stopping." Yue stated firmly, giving her a look. "Stop being ridiculous and talking with your mouth full." She finished with a snort, moving her attention to Aalun and Arthur.

"How much further do you expect to go today?" She asked, taking in the strange looks he was making.

Aalun rolled her eyes at the two going on behind her. It was hard to tell but she thought they were getting along better than yesterday or this morning. But then again...who knew. Yue was a strange little creature.

"Arthur says not much further," she said turning away from her mate to look at the other two. "And...in female terms...that means maybe a mile more." she chuckled, when she heard Arthur snort.

"Female terms..." he muttered very quietly under his breath. Trust women to have a different definition of everything. Well it wasn't that unexpected, half the time he wasn't sure they spoke the same language anyway.

"If you're all ready we could go now and have a much longer rest, but up to you." he said.

Telaar raised her head again, giving full attention to Arthur. "By long rest, you mean when we get there? And I can roll all over the grass in our new home instead of here~?" She beamed, looking completely ecstatic with the idea of no more travel for a few days.

Quickly jumping back to her feet, the young mare bounced around Arthur happily. "Yes! Let's get there and sleep the rest of the day away~!"

Yue snorted at all of their answers, especially Telaar's reaction to it all. "If it's close enough to not put strain on your mate, we should just go and get there. It will be better on her in the long run." She said, walking past Arthur to continue on the trail.

Aalun rolled her eyes at Zhang. It was sweet...it really was but it was also annoying as all get out at the same time. She was hardly a delicate little flower, and being treated as such was starting to grate on her nerves. She was a warrior damn it, she should be treated like one, in all things...even if that thing was having babies...

She idly wondered how her mother would have handled this...then again her mother hadn't been much of a fighter. She'd definitely been a "yes, dear," kind of mare.

"So how much further?" she asked quietly as she slid up to Arthur.

"You'll see." he said with a grin as he lead them all along the path he'd sort of made. The trees began to thin, before giving away entirely to the open air of the plains again. Even though it was very faint, there seemed to be a slightly salty tang to the air. "Ocean's not far from here, couple miles at the most, there are lots of little places to hide in the hills leading down to the water, but some flat land too that's easily defensible, or for training." he walked out into the sunlight and took a deep breath enjoying the feel of sun after spending so long under the trees.

"Oh Arthur, it's wonderful." Aalun said coming up next to him to bask in the sunlight.

Arthur nodded and then looked at the other two mares just coming out of the trees. "Welcome home, ladies." he said with a smile.

Telaar poked her head out around the group and squealed happily at the sight before her. "Woah!" She cried, barreling around them and down through the grass, taking deep breaths of the new strange air as she did.

"This will be amazing! What a great home! See Yue~ Arthur knows what he's doing!" She laughed and raced circles around the area, eventually tiring herself out and flopping down.

Yue shook her head and stepped past the two into the field with Ashyo. "Very open up here...should be good to get somewhere covered for the night and then tomorrow start setting up proper defenses and 'homes'." She said, smiling slightly. It was nothing like where she was from, but it was a good home.
