He who dares__________________________

Eric inwardly breathed a sigh of relief as Charlotte accepted his offer and released everyone else. Thankfully she hadn't asked them what the name of their merry band was or else he would have been forced to come up with a team name on the spot. Well, now that they were "hired" they could go about figuring out how to get the heck out of here. He looked over at Charlotte who was now standing next to him. Now that they were part of the same team (nominally) he decided it was safe to ask for a bit more information. "Who's leading the demons in this fight?" He asked her, looking her up and down to take in all the changes she had undergone. Her hair was certainly longer, though she seemed to still have the headband she liked to wear. He wondered at what point she had undergone the change to what she looked like now, and why.

For a while he had been eager to test his new strength against Charlotte. The last time they'd fought, he'd been a kishin egg and not even a whole one at that. That had ended pretty badly for him and he'd have been dead if she hadn't decided to spare him. Now that he and Harold had been combined into one being, he would be fighting with a Weapon and he'd had a year to train and more experience under his belt, he wondered how well he'd do. Certainly better than last time. He really did want to fight her, though he couldn't place his finger on why. Maybe it was a pride thing. He hated being beaten by someone and that being the end of it. He knew for Harold it was more of a revenge thing. He was literally refusing to shut up about attacking her now that it was just her and them. Though the offer was tempting, there was definitely something more important going on right now.

That brought another matter to his attention. "And where is the Grim Reaper in all this?" He asked her. Since this was before the DWMA several things about that had changed. First of all it wouldn't be a good idea to associate oneself with Lord Death right now, so Eric referred to him by his more common name rather than the respectful one he had taken later on. The other thing was that at this point there was no DWMA or any official organization for Weaponmeisters that he knew of. That meant that the traditional association of Weaponmeisters with Lord Death had not yet come about. He figured Charlotte wouldn't naturally assume they were with Lord Death, in fact she would most likely be surprised if they had been. That's why he had gone the mercenary route. Although he didn't really know much about what Weapons and Meisters did before the DWMA, it made sense that they would still try and use their powers, to benefit themselves if nothing else. A mercenary band made the most sense to him. It's what he would have done at the time.

Why here? Why now? Why Charlotte? He wondered as he waited for her response. When they'd jumped to the future it had had to do with Atticus, or rather Sanctum. They'd solved that problem readily enough, though Sanctum had been pretty upfront with the fact that he was the one who had taken them there. If Charlotte knew she had brought them there she was certainly putting on a good show that she didn't. Did that mean there was someone else who did know that they were brought here and that had done it themselves? If so, what did that person want from them? The only thing he could think of at the moment was to try and get as much information from Charlotte about the other factions in this time period. Try and decide if anyone stuck out as having the ability or motive to do something like this.

"Being a double agent huh? That's actually pretty clever, I should have thought of that..." he replied when Charlotte voiced her doubts about their loyalty. "But your money is as good as anyone else's so I wouldn't even bother making things that complicated. Besides, the sooner we get this done the sooner we can make money somewhere else." He looked back at the others, praying they would follow along with his charade. Shira had managed to hide her Death lines somehow, though he didn't know whether or not that was necessary since Death had no lines like that and Kidd didn't exist yet. Well, better safe than sorry. Plus, she might have a Shinigami soul that Charlotte would pick up. That would cause a lot of unneeded aggravation.

He looked over at Michi. "Don't worry Michi, that's about all we need," he assured her before looking back at Charlotte. "I heard this "Demon King" calls himself "Divine". Is that true?" He asked her curiously. He figured it probably was, but it was always better safe than sorry. "And why is he attacking you anyway? You got something he wants? Owe him money? Maybe he thinks you're hot?" He asked, the last one obviously an inside joke. Divine's assault clearly meant he either had an interest in the area or in seeing Charlotte dead, though there might be some sort of artifact here that he was after. Couldn't rule that out yet. He could care less about the humans Divine was torturing; they weren't his problem and either the past was set and they couldn't change it, or they could change it and risked changing something important with each decision. Either way it wasn't worth the risk and effort.
