  • Pesonality: Jin is very laidback, friendly, and generally carefree. However, despite his playful nature he is meticulous when he sets himself upon a task, which is one of the reasons why he has been so successful as a bandit; Jin is serious enough to plan ahead, yet calm enough to call it quits. He loves the outdoors, the sun, the sky, and the breeze. One of his most time-honored methods of relaxation is to climb to the highest point around, and then sit with the wind in his face and play melodies upon his flute for hours.
Since he was a child, Jin has always been inventive and adventurous, which often put him in conflict with his very tradition-oriented family. Yet, despite his rebellious attitude, Jin still holds a deep respect for his family traditions.

  • Appearance: At a glance, Jin is a man of average height and average build. He has dark hair that is pulled back behind his head, with the long front (excepting for a bit that hangs down over the right side of his face) pulled back behind his ears and fastened with silver hairpins. His eyes, or eye rather, is sea green... an ironic color considering that he has never seen the ocean. The right eye is covered, a black cloth bandana hiding it and the majority of a long vertical scar which runs up from his jaw to his forehead. His skin bears the dark tan of the desert people, and his features are fair enough for a sun-baked man half hidden in bundles.

Underneath his layers of clothing, Jin is a man with a map drawn across his body. His hands are rough and calloused, and his arms and fingers are covered with long, thin scars; a result of his constant toying with tensile wires in his devices.

Most who have known Jin for years can attest to one thing about his appearance, though: they have never seen him angry. Happy, indifferent, and occasionally somber; Jin has hardly ever been seen to lose his cool.

  • Character Class: Ninja Pirate

  • Abilities:
    • Mystic Serenade: Jin has a few traces of meta-human blood in him, and because of this he is able to control the ambient traces of magic that exist in and all around us. When playing his flute, any who can hear the song are subject to the effects of the Mystic Serenade.

To those under the influence of the spell, they will see and hear whatever it is that Jin chooses them to, whether it is real or unreal. Thus is the power of complete hypnotism. They will percieve illusions as if they were real, as well as hear, smell, and even feel them as if they were there. An illusionary object is incapable of causing real injury to those under the illusion or of acting on the environment, however, as long as the individual under the influence of the spell believes that the object or creature is real, then they will feel the pain as if it were real; their body will react in responce to what it sees.

If enough 'imaginary' damage is sustained, a subject may fall unconcious.

In example: An illusionary ogre swings its club at Tessa. Tessa is struck, cries out in pain, and falls backwards onto the ground; but 'miraculously' no bones are broken. Though she felt the pain, the club cannot physically injure her in any way, the pain and the way that she fell to the ground was her body's compensation for the illusion. However, if she were to have fallen backwards off of a ledge in that instance, she could have suffered real injury from the fall.

Anyone who can hear the music that Jin plays could potentially suffer the same fate as Tessa. Knowing that an illusion is an illusion can weaken the effect upon the subject, though the only way to escape the effects of the Mystic Serenade is simply not to look at the illusions at all... As the illusion is based upon sound and plays upon the mind, the deaf and those without a mind are not affected.

The effects will persist for a short while after Jin stops playing. To those outside of the influence of the spell, the area around the affected appears as if a thick smokescreen were present.

    • Touches the Soul: Music soothes the savage beast... though it can do other things as well. When playing a melody on his flute, Jin can influence the feelings of those who hear the song being played; he can make them happy, sad, energetic, or a variety of other emotions. It is tricky business, however, as Jin is not empathic; he must pay close attention to those around him if he wants to understand their feelings before, or after playing one of these tunes.

The effects last as long as the target continues thinking emotinal thoughts, those with strong control over their emotions are scarsely effected. Those who have no emotions or cannot hear are immune to the effects.

  • Weaknesses: If your mind can wrap around the concept that a ninja pirate has a weakness, it would have to be Jin's limited field of vision. He is blind in his right eye, and because of this, is much more limited in seeing things to his right side, as well as being unable to properly look over his right shoulder. To compensate for this he tends to turn his head to the right more often, and makes many sweeping glances at a room when others would simply be looking straight ahead.

  • Equipment:
    • Head: 2x Silver Hairpins
These two hairpins hold Jin's hair back, one on the right side of his head, one on the left, behind his ears to hold his long bangs to the back of his head.

      Black Eyepatch
Jin is blind in his right eye after an injury, this eyepatch covers the wounded eye and much of the right side of his face, it also acts as a headband.

    • Neck: Scarf
The desert sun and biting wind can be harsh; one needs something to cover his face from the sun and sand.

    • Body: Cotton Long-Sleeve Undershirt
This is worn under his other shirt to prevent the wires from touching his skin.

      Mythril Flute
This flute is kept in a holster slung across the front of Jin's chest, underneath his tunic.
      Hidden beneath the tunic.

    • Jacket: Black SteelMesh Long-Sleeve Shirt
This black longsleeve shirt has a thin web of steel threads woven into the fabric. This doesn't quite qualify it as armor, as it will only stop a light slash from cutting through, but it is enough to prevent the wires that Jin uses from cutting into his own arms. The shirt has a tighter weave, and is more durable as armor, on the body, while the sleeves are kept light.

      Black Tunic
A loose, thin covering to help keep the sun off and trap cool breezes against the body; as well as covering the waist with a skirt.

    • Hands: Black SteelMesh Gloves
These black gloves are comfortable to wear, and have a steel mesh woven in between layers of fabric. A bit more durable than the shirt, but mainly intended to protect Jin's fingers from his own devices.

    • Arms: 3x Tether Line
Up his right sleeve, at the very end, there are three mythril hooks fastened in black loops of fabric. Each is connected to a length of wire that runs through a series of fabric loops up the sleeve, and down his side until it reaches the wire feed by his right hip. These lines can pull out by up to 100 meters, and will reel back in when there is no more force holding them due to a tension coil spring in the wire feed.
At the inside of the right elbow, there are three almost unnoticable black loops poking out. Each of these is connected to a wire corresponding to those on the hooks. When pulled, they apply pressure on the wire to stop the feed. If pulled sharply to detatch the wire, a secondary mechanism will snip the hook wire.
      Hidden up his right sleeve.

      Pullstring Dagger
At the end of his left sleeve, there is a black loop of fabric just inside of where the sleeve ends. If Jin bends his wrist down, he can pull it with a finger. Doing so releases a spring mechanism in the sleeve which shoots a dagger out, connected to a short length of wire. Tugging on the dagger sharply reverses this.
      Hidden up his left sleeve.

    • Waist: Belt Harness

      Wire Feed
A device about the size of a spool of CDs, resting on Jin's right hip and firmly attached to his belt harness. Inside the shell there are a half-dozen or spools of thin, mythril wire attached to tension coil springs that keep them wound tightly. On the side of the device there are three outlets where wire can be procured, as well as a twist handle to start wire feed, and a fixed device with a slide handle for snipping lengths of wire.
      Hidden beneath the tunic skirt.

      Kusari-Gama
This weapon consists of a sickle and chain, connected to a weight at the other end of the chain. In this version, the sickle is double-edged, having a blade edge on both the interior and exterior of the curved section. The sickle is small, having about a foot of shaft before the 18" curved blade extends from it, and is composed of one large molded piece of steel.
The chain, however, is made of mythril, with links about 3/4 of an inch in breadth. The full length of the chain is about fifteen feet, and the weight on the far end is a steel rod about 10" in length and 2" thick. It bears the design of a hawk's leg, with talons at the end.
The sickle blade is kept in a leather sheath just above Jin's left hip, with the shaft looped in a piece of leather hanging from his belt. The leather is looped around the shaft of the sickle, and the weapon is spun in one full rotation to tighten the binding before the blade is secured into the leather sheath.
The steel rod sits in a holster at Jin's right hip.

    • Back: Chain Pouch
A leather pouch with an open back, folded over so that the leather clinging to itself, combined with the weight of the chain inside, holds it shut. The chain is connected to the Kusari-Gama. It is secured by buckles to the back of Jin's belt.
      Hidden beneath the tunic skirt.

    • Legs: Black Pants

    • Feet: Black Softsoled Boots

      2x Bootknife
A small dagger fitted into a sheath on the outside of Jin's boot.

      2x Black Strap-On Boot Harness
A harness made for Jin's boots, it loops over the top of the ankle, around behind the heel, and undereath the arch of the foot. On the outside of the harness there is a small black laquered steel 'box'. This has an opening for one of the bootknives to be slid into so that the blade extends up to 4" below the sole of the boot. Regardless of whether knive is present or not, the black box can detatch with a twist and is attached to a length of mythril wire from a wire feed on the harness located near the heel on the inside of the boot. The wire is fed through the harness over the top of the ankle, and is exposed for a few inches there.
By pressing the release on the side of the wire feed, the wire can be cut.

    • Extra: Collapsable Glider
The Barthavos Desert has vast expanses of nothingness, and to walk across these on foot can not only take days but can be quite dangerous. The locals ride flying lizards in order to get about, Jin rides the winds. The glider is made from a frame of dried ironwood and canvas. Tensile wires are placed throughout the frame to give control to the rider, and there is a harness to prevent falling out.
When open, the glider is five feet in length, and twelve feet wide. When collapsed, it is five feet in length, and eighteen inches wide. Altogether, it weighs thirty two pounds.

  • Alignment: Chaotic Laidback

  • IC Reasons for Joining: A penchant for adventure and the love of something new and interesting to pilfer.

  • History: It all started five centuries ago, when a man by the name of Vahn Fah the Sixth passed through Barthavos. He did not stay long, and all that he left behind was his name, stories of his past, and a child growing inside of Ra'sha Tir.

For a poor girl like her, there was nothing that made her feel quite so important as when she gave birth to the son of royalty; Vahn Fah the Seventh. To her son she taught everything that she knew of his father, and recited tirelessly the stories she had heard about his deeds. Young Vahn VII grew up this way, and had a son of his own: Vahn Fah the Eighth.

So this continued, the family tradition. Decended from the line of Fah, through five hundred years. The firstborn son named Vahn Fah, always. Vahn Fah the Nineteenth died in battle, fighting for Strata's independance, before he concieved a son. His younger brother Gen took up the family tradition, and named his own son as Vahn Fah the Twentieth. And so the tradition continued.

Over time, they became known as the Fah tribe; a large number of these men living as shepherds in a canyon to the southwest of the city now known as Strata, others adventured into the world in search of the glory that their blood promised, seldom did these ever return. The family grew wealthy in their own right, assured of their own importance, and after five centuries of decendants, we come to the present.

One afternoon in a Strata hospital, Nilla Fah gave birth to twin boys. The first was named appropriately: Vahn Fah the Thirty Second, the second was named after her father, Jin.

As Jin matured, he found the life of a shepherd with the Fah Tribe to be confining... it was not his duty to carry on the family line, and he was not needed to ensure the family's security. He felt useless there, as if he was wasting his life... and so, at the age of thirteen, Jin set out upon the road and never looked back, falling victim to the youthful anxiousness for adventure.

Within a few years, he had joined up with the Sand Pirates, a group of desert bandits that plagued the highways leading through the Barthavos Desert. He was competant in his own right, especially with the help of his talents in both illusion and invention. Though it was his obsession with invention that stole the sight from his right eye.

He was working with an early design on an experiment, and misjudged the tension placed upon the frame. The wood snapped, and the wire swung free, catching him across the face. Jin's eye split, and though it healed he never regained the ability to see out of it.

While many others attempted to sympathize with his pain, Jin simply laughed as the doctors attended him... telling them that now he really did feel like a pirate.

arrow On a venture into the desert, Jin comes across a strange blind woman by the name of Adrienne; together they journey towards Strata...

The sun was beginning to dip down to the horizon by the time Jin saw the highway in the distance. From so high, dozens of miles were in view, though only the roughest features in the landscape could be made out. This 'highway' was little more than a wide, beaten trail that caravans and travelers would use when traveling between the more temperate Gaia Plains and the sprawling desert capital of Strata to the south.

It was along this road that the Sand Pirates would most often lay in wait for caravans to pass.

Jin reached above his left shoulder and pulled down on the third handle from the end, while his right arm reached across to pull down on the left of three handles positioned near the top of his head. The glider tilted to the left a bit, swerving as the wind currents caught in the modified surface of it, and above a particular section of the highway he would circle like a vulture; decending slowly so that more explicit details in the landscape could be observed.
