Sherry looked up at the gates, then back to Jake. "Yep!" She nodded, almost far too happily. "Lead the way!"

To Sherry, it was beautiful. Even ruined and falling apart, something about the palace was just breathtaking. The overall ambiance was nice, too. Sherry was almost certain she could hear something, something like a faint song.

"Jake, do you hear that?" Her voice was quiet, almost like she didn't want to disturb the peace of the place. She turned, taking attention away from the architecture and placing on the death trainee.

Of course, she didn't see Jake. In fact, for a moment, she saw nothing but the palace. Had he already gone on ahead? Where-- Something caught her eye, and she looked down. That was a minipet. Sherry had never seen it's like before, but the book had said the island was full of strange creatures.

Sherry's brain took the information before it and coupled it with information from her past. There were two possibilities here. 1: Jake had moved on and this creature had wandered into her path. 2: Jake was the minipet.

These realizations came to her in a moment. In the next moment, worry, not panic, settled over Sherry. What if....

Quick, and no longer worried about disturbing anyone's peace, Sherry dashed towards the creature and picked it up. "Jake? Jake, is that you?" She held the creature at arms length for a moment, looking at it. She then pulled the minipet in close, hugging it to her chest. "Don't panic. I've been through this before. You'll be fine."



No, but.... Sherry had gone with the worst case scenario.

A flailing minipet, Sherry found, was much like a flailing puppy. The yips were rather similar, too.



"Jake, Jake. Shhh. Calm down." The Life trainee squeezed the writhing minipet even closer.



"Armagnac!" Sherry let the scold slip out before she went back to making soothing noises at the creature that was either Jake...or not. Either way, she was just squishing it even closer to herself, doing her best to keep it from both getting away, and hurting itself. "Jake, you really need to calm down. It'll be fine, I promise!"

"Jake. Calm down." He was still squirming. Holding him still wasn't easy, and she might end up was a bruise on her left arm, but she didn't care. The last thing she needed was Jake freaking out and running off to get eaten by something, or lost, or something.

"Calm down, calm down." On hand started to reassuringly pet at Jake's little minipet back. "If you can calm down for a minute, we can sit back and think about this." She didn't bother loosening her grip.

"That's better," Sherry let out a large sigh of relief, and she began to loosen her grip. She would never admit it, but she might have panicked a little. Just a smidgen.

She kept a firm grip on Jake's much smaller ribcage, and then lifted him, so they were eye level. "Jake, you ok? Don't worry. Things are going to be just fine."

She'd lived through being a minipet once. Though, that had been entirely a different situation.

She hadn't been expecting that. The natural reaction was, of course, to drop him. She did just that, and pulled her hand in close to her face, looking at it. "You drew blood you ungrateful little jerk!"

Feeling no sympathy or worry at all for Jake, Sherry gave chase. She was going to catch that little brat, drag him back to Deus and give him a piece of her mind.

Perhaps some part of her mind registered the music. Maybe not, seeing as it didn't register much else....at least not until it was painfully obvious that something was very different. For one thing, running seemed a little harder, and...everything else seemed a little taller. Sherry only had to give one quick glance down before she understood what happened.

For the second time in her life, she was a minipet.


"J-Jake! Get back here you idiot!" She was also still angry; her paw still stung.

"What?!" She gave the very best exasperated sigh that she could manage in her current condition as she waddled forward. "I was trying to help! I didn't want you to panic. I was worried."

She was much closer now, and getting used to her feet. "You still didn't have to bite me. Sheesh." She was rubbing her hurt paw with the not hurt one.

"So. What now?"
