Naj watched the older stallion walk back down the beach until he disappeared before following after his brother. "I can swim just fine!" He called, running into the water, splashing more of it up around him than actually swimming in. He was very much repeating the same display he had earlier to simply just hide in the water.
Maybe he wasn't so graceful about it...but at least he knew how to swim. For the most part.

Zalashji couldn't help but be amused by his brother's antics. His brother wasn't the best swimmer, but he could keep up at least. Stepping out of the water, he shook himself a bit, then looked back at his brother to see how he was faring.

Naj bumbled along in the water behind him, splashing about in the deeper areas and just generally making a fool of himself. Eventually he reached the shore and wandered up beside Zala, shaking off as well. "Sorry...when it gets to a deep enough point things get kind of hard...." He looked away to instead look around the island they arrived on.
"Interesting...what will you do if the herd ever gets too big to live around here?" He asked, watching for movement from anyone else.

"The herd controls the whole island and most of the beach from there--" He gestured north with his tail. "--around and to there." He gestured to location somewhere far south of the beach. "The island is more or less the main hub, I suppose. At this point, we all fit here comfortably. When there are more, the twins will decide then."
Zalashji began to wander off, motioning for his brother to follow. "Mother lives just over this way. She'll be surprised to see you."

He nodded and looked around the island again, spinning in a circle to see up and down the beach as well. "Interesting...so much room." He smiled and quickly turned back around to follow after his brother. "Wait--" He called and darted after him to catch up.

Zalshji chuckled and waited for his brother to catch up before continuing on. "So, this mate of yours. How did you meet her?"
As the two approached a cave on the far side of the island, the inhabitant strolled out. Darkspine noticed her son approaching in the distance with what looked like a half-breed naga she had never seen before, but was familiar somehow. "Zala, who is your friend?"

"Just saw her...decided to approach out of curiosity because she was different and fascinating. She also didn't look like she was family so...I think she's part kalona, or whatever they are. I've only heard about them, but she acts really off sometimes and talks to me like she wants to eat me..." He fell silent after a bit of rambling, wondering if she actually would eat him if he let her. "But she has all sorts of bones and wears them, and I love every bit of her!"
Naj jumped slightly at the sound of a new voice and looked toward the older mare. She really did match him in color, but looked more like his brother. At least in his mind anyway. "Uhm..."

"Sometimes, I think my mate wants to eat me, too," Zalashji chuckled to his brother before focusing on his mother. "It has not been that long since you last saw him, has it?"
Darkspine blinked. "Naj'entus? Have... have you come home?" The mare moved forward to rest her forehead against her son's own.

Naj froze up and swallowed as he pressed her head to his. "Sort of...I guess...I mean unless my mate wants to, I won't be living here permanently. Just...nearby..." He mumbled, stepping back to get a good look at her again.
"He found me wandering out on the beach, even though I try to be avoided." He glanced over at his brother.

Darkspine looked surprised. "You were so close all this time? It is a wonder we had not stumbled on you before now." She smiled. "And you have a mate. What is she like?

"I liked to keep hidden...I'm afraid of them sending things after me to kill me.." he murmured to her, looking down at the ground. "Oh...Ting? She's...well like I said earlier to him, part kalona I think? Also I think she wants to eat me sometimes...but I love her! Every bit of her and I know she feels the same about me!" There was at least no denying he cared deeply for the strange mare he had met. Even if she ever did hurt him, unless she killed him there would be no chasing him away or forgetting his love and affection.

Darkspine rose an eyebrow at her son's statements. "Well, as long as she makes you happy, my dear." She moved a bit to look past the beach across the water to the swamp beyond. "I do not think your father will send anything to harm you, but I do not know the rest of his family." She glanced back at the young stallion. "We will do our best to keep them out. The sea can be quite powerful, so you will be safe enough in our territories."
Zalashji bumped his brother's shoulder with his own. "See? Told you that you would be safe." He looked to his mother and then back to his brother again. "If you are hungry, we have plenty of food here. I suppose you might like to eat before you go."

Naj followed her gaze towards the swamp, falling silent for quite some time. He'd had a few experiences with the undertow before, so perhaps the sea would be powerful enough to stop something coming after him. "Sure...I still think they'll find a way if they wanted to...but I guess for now I am safe." He smiled a bit and looked back between the two.
"And something to eat sounds great."

The mare just nodded, frowning a bit. "i respect your father, but this herd will stand against him and his family if they try to hurt you. You're my son and you're one of us. We will protect you to the best of our abilities. You will always be safe here." Darkspine moved to leave. "I have my duties to attend to, but I'd like to see you again. Perhaps you could bring your mate next time." She touched his shoulder with her tail briefly and then walked away.
After their mother was gone, Zalashji turned to his brother. "I'll show you were some kelp beds are." He nodded for the other to follow before heading in a direction not quite opposite where their mother hand left.

Naj frowned and watched helplessly as their mother wandered off to take care of whatever it was she did. He wanted so very badly to follow after her, and even took a couple steps forward before Zala's words brought him back out of it.
"The kelp beds? Why? Sleeping underwater is really uncomfortable...I prefer land--" He started, turning quickly to dart after his brother.
