Others...there were others arriving and it would do her no good to stay as she was. They were moving towards the Gatekeeper without pause and so Temes knew she needed to go there as well. It was like something was calling to her, telling her to rise and go to his side, but the flesh was as weak as the spirit contained within. Not contained perhaps, but trapped, behind ribs and sorrow.

Temes felt her body protest as she forced her small arms to push her upward, her small legs to gather back beneath her and propel her standing. The weeds and grasses of the overgrown garden would lead her forward if she accepted them as guide and so she swayed as she attempted to shuffle to her destination.

People were speaking, why did she feel like it had been so long since she had heard voices? Was the last noise in her mind truly silence or did she image that all to ease her worries? The pain of not remembering what had happened dulled with each step towards the Gatekeeper and her destiny though she faltered once more before she could come into his presence.

Did she....not belong here? The guide had told her where this was, who she was, but why couldn't she recall those whispers now? If only she had listened she would have known and bitterly Temes bit at her lower lip. Even teeth against flesh felt weird, like something was missing that should have been there.

No shoes, an open back for her dress. Hair that sat poorly on her face, fingers that looked wrong on her hands. Teeth that were alien to her lips.

The Gatekeeper would know the memories, she needed to get there. He would know more than just her name, he had to know more than just her name.

Everything had happened so quickly... it'd seem like just any other day, or well... a day better than most. He'd been having quite a lot of customers, and was feeling like things were probably just too good to be true. Looks like he was right... the image of the crashing castle still replayed in his mind, along with the screams and shouts of those all fleeing and running from the silver kingdom. They wouldn't be able to go back.. the home they all knew was gone. Just like that, with just a blink of an eye.

And now he was.. here. Vaska's unnatural eyes slowly scanned the area of the rather depressing setting, taking in its very different structure compared to his homes. Just the aura and air of this place... so vastly different. His little bone wings flexed slowly, folding, and flaring in an idle manner, while he continued to survey the place.. what did he do now? No longer did he work for his kingdom, now he was going to have to find a new life to live... here, apparently. Vaska's expression kept stoic, composed as he gathered the situation fully, deciding that perhaps meeting with the king of this place would be the best course of action to take first. He wasn't entirely familiar with the geography of this world, but he figured it couldn't be too hard to find his way.

Though if he was here... perhaps there were still others from the silver kingdom that would be arriving, and just maybe they might need some sort of assistance in finding their way. So he decided to simply wait for a few moments to see who else would turn up, figuring it would be better to travel together, than have other stray's attempting to find out what to do.

[[ Entering ]]

Alastair found himself in within the foreign kingdom, his head throbbing and every limb was aching. With a quick glance around, everything he saw had an ethereal appearance. In his stupor he believed he had died trying to escape the crumbling tower he called home. Alastair blinked again as he analyzed his surroundings and began to regain clarity. No, he made it through the portal, and had arrived in the violet kingdom.

Bruises from the chaos practically covered him from head to toe. Was he trampled when he fell? Something definitely struck him in the head though, and-... Alastair removed his hand from his forehead after feeling a sticky moisture. He groaned internally. Great. I hope I didn't get blood on my vest.

Without a sense of purpose or even a goal in mind, Alastair wandered towards the gathering. It took effort to maintain his typically graceful gait with the sharp pain in his limbs. Alastair recognized a trio of faces from the Silver Kingdom, but only one enveloped his attention. The man's lionesque tail flicked dangerously as he prowled towards Harland with a broad grin.

Some came forth so eagerly, others pushed forward by the crowd, despite their wishes otherwise. Thackery was sure to give them each attention, as much as he could manage for each of them - now wasn't the time to shatter the image of equality.

As time and several faces passed, he found himself with Millie before him, her approach a bit less enthused than some before her. He stared at her for half as long as she'd stared at him, trying his hardest to judge the expression fixed upon her face. When he finally moved, he broke into a smile, reaching to clap her on the shoulder in reassurance.

"Don't worry if this seems strange! I understand. Sometimes," he lowered his voice to a whisper. "None of this makes sense to me either. But you'll find clarity. We all will! Even if it doesn't seem like it, it'll be there. The Voice is sure of that, and so am I." With that, he pulled a key from his own nearby box and set it atop the one she held. "I believe in you."

As he turned to the next, he froze, fearing words that didn't come.

You need no introduction, he itched to say. To spill a dozen confessions of all that he knew. But now wasn't the time, before all these citizens and the task given by The Voice. Perhaps when the kingdom were less restless. He felt certain that there would be such a time.

"Henry," he repeated, and the name scratched his throat. "I'd drown in regret if I didn't grant this one request to you. I mean, not actually, because there's not any water named 'regret' here, but it would feel like it. I can't think of anyone better suited for that position. At the very least, consider this a token of my gratitude! I always really like good keys." He fished a different key from the pile in the box and reached for his hand, carefully slipping it into his palm. For a moment, his hand lingered there, as if it might hurt to pull it away; but there was work to be done, and no time to be selfish, so he offered a congratulatory nod and continued to the next.

Erebus and Tomoko were addressed in tandem, one clasped hand outstretched towards each of them. Presumably he held the keys he meant to give to them, but he didn't seem to have any intention of revealing that until he was done speaking.

"I wanted to thank both of you for your actions a few moments ago. You don't even need to say anything for me to know the merits you each have. Now is the time for action - more than ever! So these belong to each of you. Without question."

He opened the hand in front of Erebus first, proving that there was, in fact, a key waiting for him there. Surprise! He tossed it up and down twice, catching it each time in his open palm, as if he were testing the weight for some reason.

"For your quick thinking. More of us might stumble, and we'll need you there to catch us." He grinned, pleased that he'd been able to reference one of his extremely recent accomplishments.

The hand in front of Tomoko was opened when he turned his full attention to her, the key slipping down towards his fingertips for her to take it.

"And as you've seen, some of us don't really make the best decisions all the time. We'll need someone to keep us in line, and show us the way. I know you might not feel like you're ready for that task, but...trust me. You've never been more ready for something, okay?"

The introduction that followed elicited a little laugh from the Gatekeeper.

"Remi! I couldn't forget you so easily." Even if he were not one of the earlier entrants, the way he carried himself made him stand out in a way that was rarely seen in the citizens here. A vast majority of them seemed to have no care in the underworld for appearances, but the kitsune held onto his details, from ear-tip to tail-tip.

"You're very right. There's only one of me - it's really sad, I know - and I'll need someone to mirror me when I can't be around. So, if you think I'm worthy enough to ask this of you..." He presented this key with both hands, cupped and displayed towards him. "I would be proud for you to be my Queen."

There were no keys here that were set aside for merit in eloquence, and it wasn't of particular importance at the moment, so Soren's response was more than enough to satisfy Thackery's request.

"Of course you can! Oooh, and you will. I know just the place for you, where you can show off everything you know well." To him he presented a key that matched a few of the others, albeit chosen for reasons relevant only to him.

As Saya approached, her enthusiasm was so intoxicating that it was very clearly bleeding over to Thackery, his eyes widening with every word.

"You can bring a lot! You don't need me to tell you that, though - you'll know it soon. And then you can see yourself as important as I see you!" He clapped his hands, feeding from the excitement she'd offered to her fellow citizens; when he stopped, a key fell into his palm, kind of like magic (but mostly just tumbling out of the sleeve where he'd left it).

"For you," he began, handing it to her. "To remind you of your strength!"

With a warm smile to Sherry, he moved to tuck the fallen lock of hair back into its place beneath her hair ribbon. Though she seemed reserved, proving as much by her brief silence, he knew that there was conviction in the words she spoke.

"We need that," he said, reassuring. "And we need you to remind other people to not give up too, okay?" Her key was placed atop her box, as he'd done to some others before, though it looked slightly different from the rest.

Poppy slowly inched forward into the crowd, trying to 'blend in' as best she could after having been tossed through a portal, her crumbling home left behind. Her heart was still beating faster than a humming bird's, anxious and filled with questions.

Everything here was so vastly different from what she knew. But all she needed to do was blend in and observe. Even if she possibly had no Kingdom to return to after this, she would do what she came for.

It then hit her she'd forgotten her wares in the chaos she left behind.

[Entering]

This was definitely not one of the places he would have chosen to go on a leisurely trip, however peaceful it technically was... but the plus side was, it was not in the midst of crumbling and crushing people to death. Not that he had a problem with death, it was the crushing part he wasn't too keen on. Also being what it was, some of the dead might have ended up here anyway.

He attempted to regain his composure, tugging at his sleeves and trying to pretend he hadn't just had his feathers vigorously ruffled, that he wasn't abruptly homeless and unsure what to do next.

In a stroke of curious fortune, he thought he saw a glimpse of the other hunter who's pelts he'd been petting just before the collapse. He wasn't sure what kind of fortune to call it, but it wasn't entirely unwelcome to see at least one person he recognized, even in an 'I met you a few minutes ago' sort of way. The entire demolition of one's kingdom could, he supposed, be looked upon as a vaguely bonding experience. Not the sort you'd reminisce over cheerfully, however.

First, Harland spotted Crispin; apparently that man had made it through the portal before Alastair? But, surely Alas would be fine. He had to be, right? He was too vain to be all dead and such. Crispin was already walking around the fringes of the crowd when Harland spotted him, so it was only a moment or two until he reached out as if to grab the injured man and realized it would probably be rude. "Crispin, do you require assistance?" Harland asked, gesturing to his shoulder. He tried to get the man's attention.

Shortly after, Harland spotted Alastair, bruised and bloody. "Pardon me, Crispin; I suspect Alastair is injured even worse than you," he said, about to go to his aid, when he turned and saw that Alas was already prowling towards him, grinning. Harland's face betrayed him: an immense sense of relief washed over his features. "You're hurt," Harland muttered at the man, leaning in closely so that his voice would reach only Alas loudly enough to make out the words. "Just stuff your pride and lean on me, would you? Pretend I'm afraid of ... whatever this place is, and I need the comfort, or something. You're smart, figure it out," Harland told him, his drawl turning into something that was simultaneously worried and irritated. Affection: it did weird things.

"Alright, Crispin. Let's see what we can do for you..." Harland unfolded his gold-work and leather armor collection, which he'd thankfully wrapped up and carried with him when he went to see Alas, and looked for his small kit of medical stuff. Nothing fancy; Harland wasn't a pro. But working with leather and gold meant small cuts often, and even some burns at times, so he was used to that at least. As he was surveying his kit, and Crispin, he would deal with that as appropriate... but as he was looking around the crowd, he spotted another Silver kingdom member, at least one and tried to signal him over: "Are you injured?" he'd ask, as soon as they were close enough. He didn't want to make a scene, or be too loud; they were supposed to remain unobtrusive, after all. But he didn't want his kingdom-mates to suffer...

There was someone speaking, however, and it seemed like it must be the King of Purple. Harland, in the name of being a good ambassador, shut up immediately and focused.

Face your demons

Upon watching others from his home gather, he spied one that he vaguely recognized... only because they'd literally just met moments prior. He'd been a possible customer that had ventured to his booth, and... taken a liking to the furs that were on display. He noticed others seemed to know each other already, and decided perhaps it would be best to do the same in checking on the other.

Approaching the man, he gave a small nod in acknowledgement once he was close enough, noting the bedraggled state he seemed to be in. But it didn't appear that he was too worse for the wear. "Sir, I believe we met briefly.. and it appears we have been whisked off to a random kingdom now with the downfall of our own.." his unnerving gaze shifted slightly to glance around them in gesture, still absorbing the new scene he was thrust into. Poising his eyes back on the other, his petite wings flexed, "if you haven't any course of action composed, I think it best we find the king of this land, and gather up any others who might have been placed here as well." to Vaska, sticking together seemed of a high priority sort of interest. He was a loyal man, and even if he didn't know these people, they were his kin. And he wouldn't leave them behind if he had the ability not to.

However his attention was caught as he saw an individual from the clustered group call out to him, his wings twitching slightly in reaction, before he looked over to spot the owner of the voice. Glancing back to the man he'd been conversing with, he made a small gesture with the tip of his head for him to follow, as he approached Harland and his party.

"No I am fine, thank you. What of you, sir? and your acquaintances?" he did a scan over the group collected here, Harland getting the first look over, then his companions, "Unfortunately... I did not think to grab bandages on my way escaping.." there was slight remorse to his tone, even apologetic, as if failing a duty... probably being a little too hard on himself than he should have, the black of his scelera seeming to swallow up some of his icy blue iris as he narrowed his gaze just a touch in self reflection. He should have been more prepared...

The crowd continued to shuffle around, those who had already met with the Gatekeeper moving farther away from him as time went on, allowing the others their own time.

Erintis was correct in her assumptions, this whole celebration a dance of formalities more than anything else. Still, this was the sort of thing that felt like the right thing to do, so it was what he chose, reveling in hearing what each of them were willing to admit about their own gifts.

"You are," he agreed, nodding emphatically. "And we'll count on you for it! There's always a need for balance. It might seem a little silly for a level head to be valuable now, but you'll know more and more of its usefulness. I promise!" Smiling, he sealed his promise with the key that he offered to her.

Nyyrikki spoke only briefly, but it was all either of them needed of the exchange.

"That's not nothing to offer!" he protested, giving him a teasing look of disapproval, knowing that he knew better. "You make it seem so easy because you've got a strength that not all of us have. You'll prove that easily, and be the envy of all who oppose you." With a firm nod, he stepped forward just long enough to give him a key.

The request made by Jack was not too surprising, given the nature at his core and the time he'd spent here. It made sense that he'd want those few precious morsels of verity remaining, but something urged the Gatekeeper in a different direction, conscious of what the future might bring.

"And you are a Jack of all trades. You'd be valuable in that position, but I can't rob you of the others - because that wouldn't be fair to your potential. You have room to grow! You'll take the opportunity and do just that, you'll see." His key was handed to him in earnest, with knowledge that he'd press its limits.

Thackery couldn't help admiring Joachim's use of the ribbon as he bowed before him. It contrasted so perfectly with his hair, as if it were meant to go there all along. The perceived shortcomings that he admitted came as no surprise; the plans written for him seemed to stray far from the combat of the battlefield, were it possible.

"Don't worry! You will find something perfectly suited for your talents, I'm sure of it. And you will excel anywhere you may find yourself. Remember that!" He dipped his head in some semblance of a clumsy little half-bow, tucking a key into Joachim's pocket.

As Petra approached, his air of excitement dulled. It seemed in such in poor taste to be so effervescent when that was probably not what she needed for direction, so he reached out towards her, still kind, smiling, but notably more solemn than before.

"You're just beginning to find yourself. Well...find everything. I know it's not easy, but I also know that you've got it within you to find every single thing you're looking for. That strength is what makes you so deserving of this." His smile was now reduced to a little twitch of an expression, but it did still linger as he bestowed a key to her.

Just like the one before him, he was silent, tentative, and needed others to understand without words. Thackery was tempted to offer he same to him, but everyone else had gotten words, and he didn't want to be unfair to Jove.

"It's easy to find strength in words, but it's the silence that's the strongest sometimes." He paused, mulling over what he'd just said. "But I think you already know this, don't you?"

Very carefully, proving just how precious the key was, he slipped it into the box held towards him.

Before Agsilved had time to straighten from her bow, he reached to pat her on the head, gracious for the gesture she'd made.

"Don't worry! The length of time you've spent here isn't the important part; your desire to prove how great you can be is, and you've got that. You're willing to gamble with the only life you ever knew for the life you know now. There's a lot of honor in that!"

It was he who bowed to her this time, extending a key for her to accept.

Another took his turn to speak, and the joke had presented itself again so plainly, but he did his very best not to call Sparrow 'Whatever You May Like'. He'd learned that some were very possessive of their names, and one could never be too sure when this sort of teasing might be too offensive. He understood the sentiment, when it was just a name they'd remembered for so long.

"And I trust yours," he countered, extending a key with raised brows. "Which is why I'll offer versatility! I know you'll find what fits you best - you're destined for it."

Though his motions and directives of the crown were fueled by pity, Temes earned the most of it. After giving Sparrow his key, Thackery took the emptying box of them under one arm and moved to meet her, each step taken with great caution. He seemed to worry that just stepping near her would bring the worst.

"Temes," he began, voice low, kept just between them. "You've got a long way to go, but you've already come so, so far. You humored my selfishness and came to me when I could've come to you. We've got so much to do together! That's why I encourage you to take this, so you can grow into everything you want to be." He stood firm as he extended her key, full of the confidence he felt for her.

As the members of the Silver Kingdom began to arrive, they occasionally stole his attention from the few remaining ones who had yet to receive their keys; just flickers of a gaze, a hint of curiosity every now and then. It seemed as if he might just ignore those from the Silver Kingdom, as many usually opted to, watching them with intrigued silence. Instead, he stood as tall as he could and waved his hand high and wide above the crowd.

"Please, come join us! And don't forget to pick up a gift."

The pale freckled boy seemed relieved, albeit a bit confused by the key. It seemed important... He watched the King closely as more keys were given out, glancing down at his own briefly before tightening his hand around it. It had to be important, if nothing else because the King gave it to him.

He took a couple seconds to lay the empty box on the ground next to Thackery before backing away. Being given a gift wasn't going to distract him from his original intent, to give himself as a tribute.

With one less item in his possession, the boy walked back into the crowd. He looked down at the key in his hand. It was more intricate than the one on his arm, and it's weight was significant. It was-

POOF.

Suddenly the boy found himself immersed in blue fur.

"Ah, Harland!" Crispin's face spread into a wide, startled smile. He hadn't expected to see his friend again. Even as Alastair prowled forward, seemingly out of nowhere, Crispin could push away his private disdain, grateful to see him.

"No need, no need," he said hoarsely. "I'm well. Just a bit bruised, inside and out."

Watching the two of them lean on each other was touching. Crispin swallowed a dry lump in the back of his throat, feeling tears sting the corners of his eyes. He glanced away to give them some privacy, discreetly wiping at his face, and trying to hide a sniffle or two. Whatever his opinions on the pair of them, they were all together now, for better or for worse, and they were his friends. They had all lived! They alone had lived and made it to this kingdom... what were the odds of that?

Ah-- or perhaps there was one more.

"Greetings, fellow," the wobble in Crispin's voice was unmistakable, as he smiled and clapped the newcomer on the shoulder. "Glad to have you here with us. My name is Crispin. Worry not. We're together, and together we can find some stable ground in this mess. Right?"

He glanced back pointedly at Harland and Alastair.

Alastair scoffed at Harland's suggestion, giving him a playful shove which resulted in a cringe. He continued as if nothing happened. "You want me to play pretend with you? Oh please." He hesitated and his expression softened as if slowly coming to the realization that they had just lost their home. Forever. Alastair tried to ignore the crippling emotions but they forcefully dragged the corners of his mouth into a deep frown and for a brief moment it appeared as if he was about to burst into tears. With a with a quick breath and a gulp he regained composure, and again continued as if nothing happened.

"I know you can't stand to be apart from me, but if you really need a hug go ask... what's-his-name over there." He motioned towards Crispin with the flick of his claws. "You like hugs, don't you... guy?" Alastair kept his distance from the others, his arms folded tightly across his chest as if it would help him keep himself safe.

Alastair acknowledged Vaska with a nod, grateful to see there were more survivors. He made a note to learn more about this fellow, but for now it looked as if the stranger was about to cry... and emotions were dangerously contagious. Crispin was about to fall apart, too. Yes, Alastair would definitely keep to himself for now.

A figure who appeared to be the King waved from the crowd, and Alastair turned his attention to him. He cautiously wandered closer as he was invited to join them, briefly looking back and curling his tail as if to beckon his companions to follow.

Did the dead have hearts? Pulses? A beat that thrummed and thundered? To feel the hand against her head, even so briefly, the girl felt as if she might possess one. A softer smile, one of relief, set her features to an almost childlike wonder for a moment as she stood before the Gatekeeper. His words bolstered her pride, though she was of course aware she wasn't the only one receiving such encouragement. Yet each were given different words, ones that did not--to her at least--sound practiced or overused.

Though the fact he bowed to her... the enthusiasm on her face quickly warped into almost horror. Polite? Yes. But something about the King bowing to a subject... Agsil, in an attempt at calming her composure, accepted the key with a second, albeit smaller, bow and disbelieving smile. Her head was for the moment reeling on how to otherwise properly respond. Of course, the chance to move back into the crowd helped. Staring at the key grasped in her hand, feeling its weight with a marvel, she looked to the purple ribbon tied around one of her bangles. A gift to hold a gift. Perfect!

Towards the edge of the crowd, she came to a halt. Fiddling with one of the trailing ends of the ribbon, she pulled it through the center hole of the key. It required her taking off the bangle to maneuver a few knots into place on the key, but it was done. The bangle back in place, she was comforted by the feeling of the key striking her leg now and then. Proof it was there. Proof of faith.

From where she stood at the edge of the crowd, she was able to see the majority of those gathered. Including a few who'd spoken before her. In particular, her eyes caught on a man with long orange hair (Joachim) and another beneath a hood (Nyyrikki). Both had spoken had spoken as if their strength was not enough. A tragic belief, in her opinion. Though they'd at least spoken up to offer it. She moved towards them, raising a hand each to place on their shoulders--even if the contact was brief, and some stretching had to be done to get both of them.

It was somewhat lost on her what she was doing. Easily her attempts could backfire on her. But to stay silent did not seem... right, either. Not when they were part of the same forces. "Forgive me for intruding." Her voice was kept relatively low. Friendly, but not interested in shouting in the crowd. "But I noticed we received similar keys." She raised her arm from which hers hung in example. "It will be an honor to fight 'long side both of you, should our paths fold in such a way. Perhaps we can even make it fun. After all, how much more should the dead have to fear on the battlefield?" Her teeth flashed in a grin, glancing between each to see if either--if any--shared her optimism.

Or perhaps she would find herself an odd-ball here.

The Gatekeeper had continued to speak to others as she'd gone to speak to the two men. It was then her eyes trailed to where he'd gone, having taken notice when he'd gone to someone. Considering all others were walking up to him, it was a change worth noting. Curiosity had her moving back to peer through the fringe of the crowd, struck by what figure greeted her silent question.

The girl was... so frail. So tiny. Though she did not hear what the Gatekeeper said to her, Agsil did not like the idea of the small one being left alone should he move on. To the two she'd spoken to, she offered an apologetic smile. "Sorry, I will just be over here." They were welcomed to join her, or they could remain behind. Her feet were already moving, the weeds and grasses barely noticed.

The closer she got to the small girl (Temes), the more she hoped the girl would find her strength... outside of the battlefield. Surely Agsil herself could snap her in two if she wished, never mind any other. Could she even stand..? Glancing from the untouched gifts nearby and the girl, she flicked on a warm smile as she approached her. "Greetings." A bow of her head, a smile turning sheepish. She didn't want to come too close. At least not until she was sure the girl wouldn't mind the proximity. "Sorry. I was... wondering if you wanted some help with your key?" She gestured to how she'd fastened hers to her bangle. "I could do something like this for you, if you'd like." It was an excuse to speak to the girl. A blatant excuse.

"No, I don't want you to play pretend but if you don't stop being a di--" Harland caught himself about to swear at Kitty, and wrinkled his nose, "I can never be a gentleman to you, what is it about your smile that is so infuriating? Be good, or I'll pretend to be a sadistic nurse. We will see how much fun that roleplaying is," he offered. Until he saw the changes across Alas' face, and felt his throat close. That misery was something he understood, well-- he'd felt it moments ago, and felt it still. He had to restrain himself from hugging Alas anyway, and telling him he could do certain explicit activities with a barbed rock if he thought that Harland didn't want to hold him any more. That wasn't how it was. He just couldn't--

Oh, good; his thoughts were interrupted when the stranger was approaching-- it looked like he possibly had someone in tow, too. Harland's expression while he contemplated what had happened to his and Kitty's relationship in the past was fairly obvious until that moment. Harland was worried he'd have to make himself less unobtrusive to get their attention. "I am glad to hear it," Harland drawled, with a sincere smile. He really did seem to be relieved. "Not a cloud in the sky there, I've got bandages enough for this... we can make more, if someone has cloth to sacrifice." He wasn't exactly a healer, by any means, and never had been. It would have been nice if someone who had made poultices or healing items in Silver had come with them, but at least Harland had his kit.

"Is this your friend?" Harland asked, intending to keep from being rude to the other stranger if they had followed. "Harland Leander Belle, pleased to make both of your acquaintances."

Crispin seemed so distraught, Harland couldn't help but wonder if he was really doing okay. He let it slide for the moment, until he heard Crispin's voice shaking. The corner of his mouth tilted into a frown. "Crispin, I will ask you this once, and please keep it factual: are you, in fact, hurt more than a bruise? And your internals, did you mean in an emotional way, or in a physical way? Because a physical injury, internally, is extremely dangerous--" Harland interrupted his own rant to sigh, and shake his head. He hated it when he couldn't figure out if someone was being straightforward or vague!

He, himself, grew quiet for a moment. "Perhaps our home is... well," he cut himself off, looking up and around at the Purple Kingdom denizens. He had no intention of revealing what had happened, to any of them. He hoped the others knew to be as prudent.

"Everyone!" he addressed his group, "We will all be okay. I..." Harland paused, and tried to smile as best he could, "I promise." He only hesitated because he wasn't sure he could promise such a thing. But right now, they could not deal with breaking down. Harland would be cheerful for all of them, even if it killed him.

He watched Kitty move towards the king, and gestured to the others silently: Should we go...?
