She didn't need to be told twice, her fingers twisted around the reins tightening her grip as she ducked her head down rushing headlong into the woods Calder might have knowledge but Siddie was at least small enough to easily avoid some of the branches, logs she still jumped, but the race went well enough as they darted after Calder.
"CALDER! We can't keep going forever this isn't just some race for fun you saltwater brained colt!"

Siddie might be a horse, but she was still a shadow; after the first time she barked a hoof on a log, she discovered that she could lengthen and shorten her legs to compensate for uneven ground. That discovery allowed her to gain ground on Calder, and as she started to catch up, she called out mischievously, "Hey, Calder? Sammy turned me into a mare!"

"Si-SIDDIE?!" Calder had a split second of surprise before a log caught from under her and sent the mare a** over tea kettle over the ground , rolling over and then just laying there after.
After a few minutes, she let out a low. "Owww."

Sammy would have facepalmed at Siddie's announcement had both not been tangled up in the reins keeping her secure on Siddie's back as they romped through the woods. Eventually they did stop, right around the part where Calder fell hilariously.
"Siddie... I know it was mean to turn you into a mare by accident, but that might be meaner to scare Calder into tripping like that." She leaned down though patting Siddie on the side just above her foreleg whispering into an ear, "But it was pretty funny..."
That said she jumped down from Siddie's back adjusting her jacket before moving to check on Calder, "C'mon Seaweed get up. You can't be as shocked as I was when it happened in the middle of my bed."

Siddie skidded to a halt as Calder tripped and tumbled to the ground. "OH! Calder, are you okay? I'm sorry! I didn't mean to make you fall!" She nosed guiltily at Calder's side as Sammy jumped down. "I only meant to surprise you a little so maybe I could pass you," she said, worry plain in her voice.

Calder heaved herself up on all fours, inspecting her legs and licking them before seeing they were fine. "I'm good. Not the first time I've tripped." She admitted before nuzzling Siddie reassuringly. The contact of another soft cheek made him think of home, and he was quickly turned back to the matter at hand.
"How did you turn into a mare?!" She asked, slowly starting to circle Siddie to inspect her. "You've very pretty."

Metal boots joined solid hooves as Sammy walked through the brush around on Siddie's other side. Her left hand of bone reaching over to stroke gently at Siddie's other cheek. When the question finally came to she tugged gently at the side of the reins.
"These. I um... they're an artifact relic, I meant to find another but ended up with these. I tried them on mini pets and nothing happened but I was uh...." About to do something Calder had no need to know about to her ghoulfriend in the sanctity of her own room? "... Goofing around and when I put them on her she changed?"

Siddie whuffed a sigh of relief. "If you'd gotten hurt, I wouldn't have forgiven myself," she said, nuzzling back. It was like getting a hug from a friend, gentle and comforting.
She nodded to Sammy's explanation. "We were sitting in her room. She said to close my eyes and then I was a horse," she added with a faint indignant note in her voice. She left out the details of the incident; no need for Calder to hear about Sammy's pervert moment.

Calder shook her head, looking over at Sammy. "Reigns are magical things. You shouldn't take them lightly. Mine are greatly important to me as they are to any kelpie." And well hidden. A kelpie's reigns could make them obey whoever held them. There were reasons why Calder wore a scarf.
Fascinated too much to poke at the details as to why Sammy put reigns on Siddie, she rounded about her inspection and stood before Siddie. "Does...that mean whoever you put reigns on turns into a horse?" Calder was VERY interested then in using them on a certain someone.

Sammy was thankful her ghoulfriend was willing to keep her habits secret. Bless her dark little shadow core for being so awesome. That earned another series of scratches just behind the ear with boney fingers.
"Reins aren't magical, well, some are like this one, but I've seen plenty of oversized mini's and monsters hooked up to them for pulling about in towns. This is something way different."
Tugging at the straps of the rein again she shrugged, "Calder, we don't even know if this changes people back, if we take them off what happens? Does Siddie stay a horse? What if I just turned my ghoulfriend into a shadow horse for the rest of her life? I didn't intend to do that, and I want my Siddie back, the one in pretty dresses." She pouted, "Not to say you aren't a lovely pony Sid..."

Siddie whimpered a little and let her head droop. "I was trying not to think about that ... I'm not supposed to be a horse, I don't want to be like this forever." She nudged at Sammy with her nose. "Take them off, okay? I want to see if it goes away ... "

Calder nuzzled Siddie again. "It's okay, Siddie. If worse comes to worse, I can help you out. However, Calder did look to Sammy with interest. "And if it does change her back, does that mean I can borrow those reigns for just a little bit some time?"
Calder needed to test them out on someone he loved.

"Well you still make a lovely one even if you shouldn't be one." Her fingers continued to scratch at Siddie's ears a small frown across her face filled with worry as she turned to Calder. While the offer was welcomed the boils intent to use them for his own plans caused Sammy to frown.
"Maybe. We'll worry about a deal for that later. I climbed a mountain, avoided pools of lava and was attacked by some smoke monster. You'll owe me if you want to use these." With that she reached around to unfasten the reins from Siddie slipping the whole contraption from her head holding her breath waiting to see what would happen next.

Siddie closed her eyes and held her breath as the reins came off ...
... and nothing happened. She peeked, just in case she'd missed feeling it, and saw horsey legs and hooves under her. Her whole body drooped and she swallowed hard. "M-maybe it'll wear off?" she whispered. "Or ... or we could ask Nurse Cricket ... "

When Siddie dropped, he knew her heart did too, and he felt bad she thought this was a bad experience. Being like this was comforting and natural to him, but for Siddie it was just misery.
Moving over, he laid down beside her and nudged her neck with his muzzle. "It's okay, Siddie. I'm sure it will wear off. If not, Cricket might know something." He could only be hopeful for her sake.
For now, he couldn't have Siddie be sad when she was a horse. There had to be a way to perk her up?
Rising, he flicked his tail before looking about, and then lowered her head. "Want to walk somewhere nicer than here?" He asked them.
