Shun paused for a moment at that question, not entirely expecting it. While the water was heating up, he thought about it, then shook his head while turning around so he could face Mitsu more directly.
"No. A number of Kaitou's associates have families. They aren't expected to work for him, but they are expected to not do anything that would endanger the Family... like ratting us out or something like that. As for how they will react.. Most of the associates likely won't care. It's Kaitou we'd have to deal with..." he murmured, thinking about it a little more, "You'd be free to do what you'd like jobwise. You wouldn't have to get involved if you didn't want to. And.. well as long as I have favor, you would also be under the Family's protection.. As a whole, it's a fairly knit group... as cutthroat they may be. Sometimes I feel as though Kaitou is much more harsh with me than he is with his men. He's still not someone to cross, but he does see to their needs otherwise. Don't get me wrong. He's still a ******** b*****d. He's at least aware he can't treat everyone like complete s**t if he wants them to work for him."

"Kaitou's associates...not his son." Mitsu had a feeling his father was probably going to be harsh with him. Especially over her. She was probably by no means an ideal wife but she didn't know what to do to change that. Would Kaitou be angry? Would he try to get rid of her? Or would he simply take it out on Shun?"
"I don't want you to get punished because of me." There was something unsettling about relying on men who were harsh and violent to keep her safe. They would never truly be part of her pack, not like Shun and her friends were. They would just be one more thing for her to worry about.

"Perhaps he just simply expects that much more from me... I don't know," Shun said quietly. It seemed most of the time he really only managed to disappoint the man. Frowning lightly at Mitsu's words, he shook his head.
"No matter what, I won't let them touch you. You've been through so much already.." he practically whispered. The tea was now more or less ready, so he poured out two cups and made his way over to sit by his lycan once more, offering her one of them.
"I'm sorry... this would be so much less complicated if I weren't... me.." he murmured.

She had been more worried about him but the thought that they would come after here wasn't entirely out of the question. As much as he said he would protect her there was no way for him to really keep that promise. He couldn't stay with her twenty four seven, even if that was what she would have preferred.
"Maybe things would be easier if I wasn't me." Mitsu said softly, sitting up so that she could take the tea from him. She looked down into the cup, watching the steam rise from the hot liquid and dissipate into the air. "I feel like I over complicate things."

"No. You... you're normal.. Most of the others would share your sentiments I'm sure. I know Lizzy doesn't exactly approve of my connections either. But me? I'm just..."
Shun sighed and shook his head.
"I'm not really meant for these things... I wasn't raised for a normal life. I ..."

Normal? Was she though? What really defined the word? It was such a gray area that Mitsu couldn't say what would constitute as normal or otherwise. It was like trying to cross a line between right and wrong. A deed could be wrong in one instance but in a different situation it could be the only right choice.
"I can't promise I won't struggle with it. I know what it's like to be hurt and tortured. To have your hope dwindle away day by day. To feel alone with nothing but a memory. I think of these things...and I don't want anyone else to experience them. No matter the circumstances. But when I asked myself 'can I live without Shun Kuroda?'" She looked up at him then, her tea still untouched. "The answer was no. I can't."

Shun's tea was untouched as well. He fell silent for a time as he listened to Mitsu. Quite frankly, this was why he felt that she was a better person than himself. While he didn't care for torture, it didn't bother him to bring harm to another. He didn't thrive on it, but he could usually go about it without regret. The only exceptions were Mitsu and a few others. Even then, in times of sparring and the like, he did not hold back and did not feel bad about not doing so.
People he didn't know well or at all, and people who were enemies though? He felt nothing. He wished the latter would suffer even, wanting them dead. And for those who would miss these people... he didn't really give a damn.
"I should feel bad about these things... I just don't.." he said quietly, staring down at his cup of tea.
"What happened to you... it pissed me off. It hurt to think I might have lost you for good. I know that pain... it was almost unbearable. I never want to go through that again. I don't even want to think of a life without Mitsu Lupus. But if you were ask me if I'd really want that pain inflicted upon another... someone who I don't really know? I can't say that I'd really care too much.." he whispered. He soon closed his eye.
"I'm sorry.. you had to fall in love with someone like me... I will try to make things easier for you. I.. don't really know what to do though.."
The Reaper lowered his head slowly. He felt like he was going to end up hurting Mitsu, and he hated himself for it.

"I know its hard for you to think of others. I really do understand. But I also know you are not without compassion. Otherwise why would you love me? Why would you have friends like Hel or an adopted sister like Xiu. I'm not asking you to change your way of thinking. Not really. It would only make it harder for you to do what you have to. I just want you to realize there is more to you than you realize."
When he apologized Mitsu's expression softened and she set her tea aside so that she could cuddle up against him. "I'm not sorry." She said softly. "We'll figure something out."

She had a point there. He did have some compassion and ability to empathize. It certainly wasn't as strong in him as it was for others, but when it came to those who mattered most for him, it was there where it really came out. It was pretty much the only time it did too.
Shun lifted his head a bit as she cuddled up against him. Looking towards her, he set his tea down as well and nestled against her. It might not have seemed like much, but her words did soothe him some.
"I love you," he whispered, planting a soft kiss to her lips as he held her close. The reaper had to be the luckiest man around, to have someone like her.

"I love you too," Mitsu whispered back, pressing into the kiss before she settled down beside him. Her throat was nice and sore now, but she had said what she needed to. She had no idea how they were going to work out their future or what she was going to do but she supposed with time things would work out on their own. At least she hoped so.
