Cai
(Tag Bereck)
"Is it." Cai responded just as quietly to the Master Healer. "They don't like to talk about it at Benden. I for one, am not against atypical dragons... but people don't like to hear the truth from apprentices." Her words were tinged with sour displeasure. Sure she was happy the eggs were hatching, but with everything else going on and the fact that soon she'd be dealing with stupid candidates with too much ego and not enough brains put a bit of a damper on it.

From the look of the first two greens she had little hope of escaping today without bloodshed either. The fact that they had both gone for the same candidate, and fought over her on the way... Cai was unimpressed with their behavior and gave a short sigh.

Medura had tried to slowly back up from the Brown green to allow her a little space however it seemed that that wasn't going to work as the green only moved closer. Unsure what to do in this sort of situation the solemn woman stood still. They hadn't exactly explained what to do when an unimpressed dragon continued to follow you while not impressing and SHARDS! She was even on her hind legs looking at her!

Then the other green screamed like a banshee and charged and abruptly Medura jerked her head to the side spotting the Do Not Disturb green moving towards them rappidly and charging through or over anyone who got in her way.

While she may not have been sure how to deal with being inspected by one green she certainly knew how to deal with a dragon fight! Leaping back out of the way of the two the young woman moved away and fast as the two tussled. Then finally the whip like little green managed to get free and Medura's eyes grew wide.

the green cried and reaching out uncaring of the Brown green Medura wrapped Syth in a hug stroking her poor wounded cheek and pressing a kiss to the scratch. Only she would know such affection from the usually stoic candidate.

"Always Syth. Let's go feed you and get that scratch taken care off." Medura murmured and turned to walk off the sands with her dragon the first pair to impress.

The green snorted shaking her head as she strutted off the sand her wings spread proudly.

What in the world was going on? Brows furrowed as the young man watched as people began to scurry around. Did they find the eggs? Or...wait, what was that? Was that humming? Cursing to himself, Torin took off for the barracks. He needed to hurry, there would be dragons hatching soon and he had to be there!

The barracks were a mess. Everyone was either in panic mode or in mid-rush. While he usually would've been amused at the state everyone was in, he was much too busy with his own thoughts. Eggseggseggseggs! Already pulling off some of his dirty clothes before even reaching his cot, he quickly pulled on the required white and rather itchy robe followed by a belt to hold it in place. Boots were tossed to the side in favor of the sandals that were also required; flimsy as they were. He had always found it odd that they'd have to wear sandals for Impressions. But traditions were there for a reason; or so his father said. Shaking the strange thoughts from his mind, he started walking towards the exit of the barracks while attempting to tame his hair somewhat. It wouldn't do to look bad in front of a gold and a crimson, not when he was attempting to Impress to one of their children.

Off to the Hatching Sands!

The sands were hot. Hotter than they had been that day of the touching. But such thoughts were pushed aside. Today was the day he just might Impress. That bubbling of excitement returned to his chest as he made his way across the sands to settle himself among the other candidates. Shards. Those eggs. One of them would be his. One had to be. Taking a deep breath, the dark-haired man tried to keep himself still. Jutting his chin out stubbornly, he kept his eyes on the eggs. The heat of the sands beneath his sandals could be easily forgotten. This moment would surely stay with him for life.

Was it strange that he wasn't as nervous as some were? Eying the other candidates who assembled around them, he didn't bother offering any sort of greetings or wishes of luck. He was beginning to focus on Impressing. No matter what color, he did not want to leave those sands until he had a dragon all his own. A bow to the golden Queen then to the crimson mother; manners and the fact he didn't want to get eaten. Shifting slightly in his stance, his mind wondered off to why that had to wear sandals during the hatching. But the movements of the eggs distracted him from such thoughts. He didn't even notice anything else as everyone waited for an egg, any one, or several of them to hatch. And as the humming stopped, Torin's breath stopped for a moment as well. In anticipation. In excitement. A mixture of both most likely. Eyes were trained to the eggs until the cracking of a shell interrupted that intense silence and out came a green.

She seemed to look about the whole circle before ending up walking to the girls. And that was when a noise, an almost chilling noise, interrupted and when his eyes darted to where it came from there was another green. Well...she wasn't very pleasant. Not with all that hissing going on. Blinking, he watched as the scary green walked right up to the other green. They wouldn't...right? Nope. It happened. Both seemed to be fighting over the same girl, did that happen often? He hadn't seen it before. Frowning, Torin reached up and tugged a lock of his hair. Hopefully they wouldn't get too violent.

Ah, was that Impression? It seemed the jade green did not win the skirmish but from the looks of it, she was the one who got the girl. That had him chuckle very quietly to himself. Interesting.

Wykla watched. She waited. Two eggs fell apart and revealed two greens. She frowned as the dragons got into a scuffle in front of a girl. Then it sorted itself out with minor injuries. Wykla nodded as the girl lead her dragon off the sands. Good. The first candidate was one no longer. As the pair came over to the feeding tables, Wykla congratulated them.

"Well done Rider Medura."

Roscoe watched blandly as the two greens scuffled over a girl before one walked away. Eh they were just greens and they seemed to be fixated on the girls so he wasn't all that bothered. Maulings and scuffles were just a part of hatchings, although this one did seem to have more then its fair share of moody greens - and it had barely begun. Perhaps they would get all the angry ones out of the way early..finish on a good note.

Pausing once the two of them got off the ground they were confronted by the candidate master. Giving the woman a nod while still keeping a steady hand on Syth's neck Medura gave Wykla a thin smile. "Thank you Candidate Master." Medura replied ducking into a small bow.

Syth rumbled in her rider's mind eyeing this other woman who had paused them in their search for food. Of course they deserved to be congratulated, but honestly the only thing they both wanted was to be ALONE with one another.

"If you'll excuse me candidate master my dragon is injured and wishes to be fed." Medura continued scratched Syth's eyeridges with a gentle smile and she Syth lashed her tail her eyes whirling with hunger and agitation.

Mercy watched from the stands, a quiet look on her face as she studied the candidates and newly created dragon/rider pair. These would be her new students after all of this was over...although by the way the greens were acting she was starting to get a bit worried about these upcoming classes. She had never had any problems in classes until coming to Trine..but then things had started to go downhill. Maybe she was just being pessimistic..nah, things would be fine! The hatchlings were just anxious and worried - surely they and their riders would be good tempered once all of this was over!

[Bereck - Tag Cai, tag Medura]

While he wasn't concerned about the scratches of candidates now, any injury to a dragonet bore looking at. The angry green didn't seem like the sort to vanish between over a little distress but one could never be too careful. "There's little I despise more than people who simply stick by their opinion without giving due consideration to logic and evidence," Bereck said, nodding his agreement to Cai. "Dragon to see to, I'll return when I've finished," he added, taking a pot of numbweed, one of redwort and two clean rags from the table of supplies. He passed the items one by one up to Sanguine and then set off towards the meat tables, moving carefully over the uneven surface of the sands but managing a reasonable walking pace despite his caution and the cane he lent on.

He arrived at the table shortly after Medura and looked the girl up and down; slightly taller than he was, good bearing, impressive burn scars that must have taken a long while to heal. "Here," he shoved his cane into the sand so that it stuck upright and took one of the rags and the redwort from Sanguine, holding the former out to the new rider. "Dip the cloth in the solution and wipe it over her scratches. Once you've done that take the second cloth from the firelizard, dip that in the pot of numbweed and wipe over again. Oh, and congratulations." That last was a little gruff and abrupt, but the healer managed to find a small smile from somewhere to go along with it at least.

Wykla waved the new pair off. "See to her then." She turned her attention back to the candidates on the Sands.

Medura and Syth finally made it over to the table after giving the candidate master a nod goodbye. Stroking Syth's eyeridges gently medura began to piece out the meat for her to eat as the green gobbled it up. It was then the other rider approached her. Recognizing him as the master healer others spoke of Medura gave him a nod and took the rag the man offered. Dipping it in the solution like he had instructed she rubbed it carefully over Syth's face to clean the scratches the little dragon hissing out in pain and giving her rider a look.

Syth hissed eyeing the substance with distaste.

"I know love, but it'll help the scratches. I'll take care of the pain soon." Medura murmered and turned to take the other cloth from the brown and dipped it it in the numbweed hastily putting it over her dragons wounds to ease the pain as Syth let out a sigh or relief and a pleasant croon to her rider.

Scratching Syth's eyeridges Medura looked up at Bereck and gave him a slim smile. "Thank you sir. Her name is Syth. Isn't she beautiful?" Medura said her slime smile getting a little broader. It could almost be called a grin, but not quite.

"Syth. Hum." Bereck gave a small nod, running an expert eye over the hatchling. She was small, slight, but she looked sound and her eyes were clear. "She is," he agreed after his inspection. Cracking an almost-grin of his own he added; "Always thought greens were the best, but I might be somewhat biased; Berath's my bondmate, you might be able to make out the big scarred green up there." He made a gesture in her general direction with one hand, reclaiming his cane with the other.

"Has she eaten enough yet?" he nodded to the little dragonet. "Don't let me distract you any further, I just prefer to take care of any injuries hatchlings have sooner rather than later."

Ahmenna had been furious at being left behind while Kharmeen was picked to go out searching. She supposed that the weyr leaders had their reasons but she knew she would be of help to those out searching. Moody, she had taken to the tasks assigned to her with a dark cloud over her head almost to the point where she had to be disciplined.

She was in the middle of said random task when she heard the dragons start to hum. What was this?!? The stolen eggs had not been returned yet and already these were hatching? That did not bode well for the missing eggs but she obeyed as the call went out for her to get into those thin white robes. Moving quickly, Ahmenna changed and marched out onto the sands with others. Being shuffled to one side with the girls, she stared out at the eggs as two of them hatched. Bold green dragons all but burst from the shell and started a brawl in front of a girl she didn't know before the smaller one seemed to Impress to the girl. Ahmenna wondered if all the hatchings would be like this one.

The hissy Green proved to have half a brain, but only half. She didn’t pop between, instead charging her larger sister in what proved to be a fit of jealousy; foolishness. Between the green’s antics and Impression, Nyasa quickly lost interest in her and turn her attention to the calmer Green and the remaining eggs. Hopefully some of those would prove a bit better.

It was interesting, Feden thought. The first two hatched dragonets were greens, fiery and spirited. It was exciting, in a way. What darling dragons! He couldn't help but smile, even as the other green bonded to a girl. It was just one dragon... and he had time. There would be no nervousness, Feden told himself. Whether or not he believed it, well... that was another story.

There was also a scary moment, in Feden's mind, that these greens might pop off to the Revolution. It was a nervous thought- that he might be witnesses history in the making, here. Would they fly off, after it was done...?

Shards! He was being a terrible downer! Shaking off the blues, Feden focused on the grand event before him. It was his first hatching! It was a time for joy!

With some nervousness, he shot the newly impressed girl and her dragon a smile.

This would go well. He had to keep faith.

Darsha had been knocked down by the charging green, more surprised than injured. In fact, she had one or two superficial scratches, but there was no blood. As she rose to her feet two little black flits appeared above her head, scolding her mercilessly for allowing herself to get knocked down. The candidate, however, had little time to reassure her flits. The green was impressing! Darsha found herself grinning as Medura embraced Syth, the other girl looked so stunned and happy. It was the first time Darsha had ever witnessed the bond occur, and it was more emotional to observe than she would have guessed.

As the happy pair made their way across the sands towards the food, Darsha's attention turned back towards the other little green and the un-hatched eggs. Scourge and Thunder, her flits, eventually managed to calm down and after a couple of stern words returned to wherever it was they had been skulking. Darsha would not have those two trouble makers interfering with her impression!
