"Va bene," it said, gesturing to Luce; the pup immediately stood, pacing over to Malodore's other side, still unsure of Shehk. "Let us be off, then. It will not be long, I am sure - her repairs are swift and sure, and I don't think she much cares for having patients there longer than they have to be," it added, with a chuckle.

you can skip them forward to the office if you're willing to do that, haha. Mal can literally try and fix it with Cricket if you're interested in that, if you want to go a different direction though go for it! whatever you want~

As long as they need be, indeed. Cricket gave the pair a long look when they stepped into her office, looking at Shehk, then at Mal, then at Shehk, then down at Luce (whom Warrior was already trying to get to play with him).

"So," that one word hung heavily and Shehk tried her best to keep a poker face on, "I'm just going to not ask what happened while I ask what happened." Cricket leaned one elbow onto her desk, flipping her scarf over her shoulder. With one foot she pulled a chair closer to her desk, motioning for Shehk to sit - which she did with little fuss.

However, despite any inspection she was doing of the strange break around her neck, it seemed more like Mal was being judged right now than Shehk was, Cricket carefully unwinding the splint while keeping her other hand firmly against Shehk's chin to keep it upright.

"Could have been a lot worse." she finally said. What could have been a lot worse? The splint job? Shehk's broken neck? Shehk couldn't ask because her mouth was practically held shut at the moment. Cricket, however, looked to Mal then beckoned it closer.

"I am sure you would like to learn this trick."

Malodore watched Cricket examine its work with faint nervousness; had Shehk not been undead, it would have immobilized her and brought Cricket to her directly, but under the circumstances... well. It nodded and moved closer when spoken to. "I would indeed, Infermiera..."

She pulled another seat over with a foot, turning it so that it was facing Shehk as well. Shehk just tried to keep her poker-face on. Yay. She was turning into one of those training dummies.

Cricket didn't even bother asking Shehk if she was alright with the arrangement as she fussed with feeling for where the bones should have sat together. "Feel the back of her neck to see if you can feel where the bones dislocated - I'm fairly certain this is a break between bones and not across either of them."

The exact feeling would be a twist between vertebrae.

"Ah-" Malodore lifted one hand to touch, giving Shehk a somewhat embarrassed look as it did so (though she probably wouldn't be able to tell. plague doctor expressions being next to non-existent in most cases). "Si, I feel that," it said, after a moment. It felt not unlike Amrita's wrists, actually. In a weird way. "The injury was sustained while in natural form, if that makes a difference," it added, looking to Cricker for confirmation, even as its other hand went down to lightly touch Shehk's shoulder.

Meanwhile, Luce was sniffing suspiciously at Warrior.

Shehk tried to not look uncomfortable either. After all, it wasn't like Mal was accosting her or something. That would have spawned an entirely different reaction if it was even possible for the plague doctor to do such a thing - be entirely uncouth, that was.

"There is very minimal bone damage here, it's mostly a matter of realigning the bone and smoothing out the ligament connections." She looked to Mal when it established the twist of the neck had been made in a different form, looking to Shehk suspiciously, but saying nothing.

"That explains why this twist is further down in the neck, actually. A difference in skeletal structure will often make a fracture or a slice render in a different place if you shift while you have it." Cricket looked like she was contemplating pulling a book out to show the difference between a humanoid skeleton and a lupine skeleton when it came to the cervical vertebrae, but then decided against it.

"Reconnecting ligaments can be slightly tricky in smaller areas," Cricket explained, actually pulling out one of her anatomy books anyways and beginning to flip through it, 'hmmm'ing slightly before another book followed. Two more books came from the collection she had amassed on her desk before she set the book on her lap - a diagram of the connective tissues of the neck.

"If you see how they connect," she pointed with a finger, "you need to make sure you follow the origin point," she pointed to one end of the ligament in the picture, "and draw it out to the insertion point," she traced along it with her finger to the other end. "This can be done with FEAR. I used to visualize my fingers a pliers against the surface in question, pinching them together at one end..." she placed her fingers against the front of Shehk's neck and demonstrated this, "and then pulled across..." she slowly pulled her fingers up - barely any distance at all, "Then sealed it in place with the thumb..." she pressed her thumb into the Pricolici's neck hard enough to warrant a look of discomfort.

"Easier from the back, but... would you like to try the next one?"

Sosiqui
Omg. I almost wrote 'The neck one' instead of 'next one'.

"Of course," Malodore said with a nod, reaching up to delicately trace the line of a ligament with the ball of its thumb - in the air, first, rather than along Shehk's skin. Its FEAR tingled in its fingertips as it focused, reaching for the FEAR that made up Shehk's own body. Stroke along the ligament, like smoothing a ribbon, and sealing it in place...

"Like so?" it murmured, not looking away from Shehk's neck.

A tingle ran up Shehk's arm as she sat obediently, lips tightening as her eyes darted about the room.

Cricket seemed to reach out herself to feel the repair, though her hands didn't move at all. Part of that 'all encompassing' thing she did sometimes. After a moment of assessment, she nodded. "Not perfect, but it's a good enough patch to promote her FEAR to finish the job."

The nurse carefully pulled her hands away from Shehk's neck, holding them close in case she had to reach out to balance it again, before taking a deep breath, closing her eyes and seeming to be unwinding something with her fingers - though nothing was there. Almost like she was unknotting string.

When she was done, she took Shehk's chin again and turned the ghoul's head from side to side. "Feel anything?" Shehk would have shaken her head if Cricket wasn't holding it. "I didn't feel anything before." The nurse gave her a look before releasing her. "Then can you move it? Give me a neck rotation."

Awkwardly, Shehk did so, pausing once or twice to wince with discomfort.

"Alright. I'd say hold off on any neck twisting or any extreme activity - like fighting - for about a week to let the reattached ligaments really take hold." she patted Shehk on the shoulder, before looking to her apprentice, patting it on the shoulder as well. "Not too bad for your first ligament fix. Fighting with stubborn and thick rubber bands using only your thumb to stretch them out is a good way to practice for the more stubborn ones." she suggested.

Y'know.

In case someone snapped an achille's tendon.

Malodore tilted its head to one side, then nodded. "Becoming familiar with a physical analogue to make one more accustomed, si? I shall try it. Molto grazie, Infermiera." It bowed to her as it often did, then looked to Shehk.

"Would you like me to accompany you back to your room? Or anywhere else you might like to go? I could acquire some food for you, if you would like."

"Yes. I found that trying to..ah..hack apart your fellow students for a proper dissection was rather frowned upon in my days as one." Cricket smiled wryly - a joke....or was she being serious about that? Either way, the nurse bowed her head back to it before it seemed it was time for her to bow-out of the conversation as well.

At least for a moment, as the look that came over Shehk's face when Malodore mentioned food was a mix of disgust and ravenous lust. "Nope." She suddenly got up, knocking the chair she'd been sitting in over (and startling Warrior who had been trying to pin Luce to chew on her ear). "Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. nopenopenopenopenopenopenopenopenopenopenopenope
nopenopenopenopenopenopenopenope" Her tail puffed out as she went into her 'Nope' mantra as if she'd just been turned into Liz.

Malodore made a startled noise, looking from Shehk to Cricket and back again repeatedly as if it couldn't decide what it wanted more, to keep on eye on Shehk or to give Cricket a soundless plea for reassurance. "Ah, I... no, then. I understand," it said, after a moment, clearly at a loss.

Cricket looked back to Shehk with a mute look of disinterest. "Just one 'Nope' would have sufficed." she added to Mal's own.

However, Shehk had gone right back into that spazzy twitchy mode, fingers flexing and unflexing, head making short choppy jerks as she began to pace, continuing her 'Nopes'.

Disinterest turned to concern as Cricket got up to hold Shehk's head still to prevent the jerking and y'know...ruining what she'd just fixed. The nurse looked to Mal with palpable curiosity now - as if expecting it to know something.

"This.. this happened before. The spasms, she..." Malodore spread its hands, helplessly. "She broke her own neck, Infermiera," it said, very quietly; it wasn't sure Shehk wanted it to tell, but its own morality demanded it. "I don't understand what could be causing it. I can detect powerful emotional agitation..."

Had she not been watching Shehk spasm as she was, Cricket would have found 'she broke her own neck' hard to believe. Even from Malodore.

"Well, I can see how she managed that." Cricket replied, practically holding the pricolici in a choke hold to keep her still. A little brute force wasn't above her, after all. "Either way, one of your suggestions seems to have set her off."

Shehk has ceased struggling, but was starting to look more like a frantic animal stuck in a bear trap, eyes wide, continuing to move her mouth though no sound was coming out of it now.

Guilt.

Panic.

Fear.

Loathing.

"I..." Malodore paused, thinking. What had they been talking about just before the spasms started earlier. Hunters, humans-

Food.

"Hunger. Food. Something about those," it whispered, still watching Shehk.
