"It's nice to meet you, Keela," Pelielle replied promptly, just in time to blanch at the second remark. Food...for later? Did she mean the feline monster? Oh, my... "You...you eat them?" She might have squeaked a little when making the query. It just sounded so gruesome!

And here came the typical weak-stomached response. "Better than just letting good meat go to waste, right? Besides, its got a lot more flavor and substance to it than grass does. Some fruits aren't bad, but too sweet to have all the time or anything." Really, these herbivores had no idea what they were missing out on. Granted, when the food supply was particularly 'low' she did also eat foliage herself, but she definitely preferred meat.

Pelielle wasn't quite sure what to say to that. More flavor and substance? ? But different kinds of grasses and plants had their own subtle variations... She doubts she can convince Keela otherwise though. Perhaps that's why the mare has a scary looking beak for a mouth instead of the usual sort with normal teeth... "I guess so?" she said finally, in response to Keela's 'better than' comment. "Do you have to...um...kill a lot of them to eat?" She isn't quite sure how it would work for a 'predator.' She's assuming they have to be dead to eat, hence the 'killing' comments, but one every day sounded like an awful lot of them...

The turn in the conversation was vaguely amusing to her. "I don't have meat for every meal if that's what you're asking. One kill is enough to last me for a good day or two at least, but in between I do still eat other things." Besides, it was best not to wear herself out with too much fighting, thrilling though it could be. No, best to space things out a bit.

"Oh," Pelielle said, a little chagrined at the response. Well, at least she could be versatile? "Are there many others like you? I mean, with a beak, and who eat meat..." Keela seemed well traveled enough to maybe know? But for all Pelielle knew, they were both individuals. She'd never met a kirin with butterfly wings either...

The raven mare's wings rustled slightly at the question. "Haven't seen any. Plenty with wings and tail feathers though." But none with beaks and bird-like front feet that she had ever seen. "My parents might have had them, but I wouldn't know." She had always just assumed herself to be cursed. How else would she have ended up the way she was?

"So I suppose that's a no to the diet choice as well," Pelielle offered, feeling badly for the poor mare. She didn't know her parents? It wasn't as if the butterfly mare was any better off there though. "I guess you weren't raised by your parents either..." She had figured out things for herself pretty well, but the events of today had taught Pelielle that maybe a little safety in numbers was a really good idea... She would've been in awful shape without Keela's aid.

"I've met a few others who ate meat, but the majority stick mostly with vegetation as far as I've seen." So boring. She shook her head at the question about her parents. "Grew up on my own. There are a lot of lone Kirin out there." Same with the shorter inhabitants that lived on this world. Guess you didn't need to be a specific breed to be irresponsible with your children.

"I guess it's good there's plenty of vegetation to go around?" Pelielle offered. Even if she had seen very few of their kind herself. "It sounds like it's not very unusual then. Being alone is a little lonely though..." She'd managed so far, but all things considered, she wouldn't mind more company. And while she was thinking of it... "Um...so how would you find others? It sounds like you have more luck there." Maybe she hadn't been adventurous enough?

Really, being alone was lonely? She never would have guessed. "Walk around a bit?" she replied with a shrug. "Some seem to like the meadow areas more from what I've seen." Which made sense, given both the openness and the large amount of grass to eat.

"...are there more scary things in the meadows?" Pelielle asked, a little nervous. She didn't think she'd been anywhere you couldn't call 'woods' yet. Trees around felt safer? But things could hide behind them...and up them...so maybe they weren't that safe after all.
PostPosted: Sun Dec 09, 2012 6:24 pm

"There can be, but it's a lot easier to see them coming when you're in the open. That's probably why most of the herds tend to stay in the plains areas." That and it was generally easier to move a mass of kirin through an open space then trying to weave their way through a forest, so...

"Herds?" Pelielle asked, blinking. That was plural, so did Keela mean kirin-in-the-plural? "Is that lots of kirin? If there are herds, then why do so many live on their own?" Also where could she find a herd. But she was a little too shy to bring that up just yet.

Aaaaand time for more questions. "Cause our eggs are abandoned?" In case the other had forgotten that point already. "Besides, not everyone necessarily gets along with everyone else. No point in being part of a group if you can't stand each other. Herd life's s'not for everyone." Like her, for example. Like hell if she would ever put up with the hierarchy bullshit that most herds had.

Pelielle's wings drooped a little again at the more sarcastic tone from the other mare. She hadn't forgotten she was abandoned too! She just didn't understand why anyone would do such a thing. But Keela probably didn't either... "I see. Um...do you not get along with others?" she asked timidly. Why else wouldn't she be in a herd? It just sounded so much safer, even if Keela did step away to hunt every now and then...
