"I wonder if we can convince the birds to keep up a looser perimeter on a more permanent basis," wondered Haya. "They have possibly saved a life today, and that is beyond any price they could ask." They were now the largest herd Haya had ever seen, but their numbers were miniscule compared to the birds of the area.
Shrivatsa looked at Haya. It felt like he was about to say something more, but he was silent. She decided that it was time for her to give voice to what she expected Haya was couldn't find the words for. "Thank you, Lorenna." She was not an expressive soquili, even though she felt emotions as deep as any other. Somehow, she thought that Lorenna might be able to understand anyways. "The birds probably saved my life, and you taught us how to use them."
"Thank you," added Haya, for himself. "If there is anything you ever need of us, the Padmapani herd will forever be your ally." He paused a moment, then added darkly, "Especially if it has to do with Xelloss or his family. There are few of us who would not do everything within their power to stop him."

"I'm certain a permanent perimeter shouldn't be difficult to arrange. If their price is higher than what your resources can supply then just send word and I'll send someone out to help cover their price." Lorenna shuffled slightly as she tried to cover up her discomfort with business talk. It was unusual to have people thanking her in such a way. They actually meant it. She could list all the times people had thanked her in such a way in under a minute. Lorenna had no idea how to really react to such things so she stuck to what was safe.
"I appreciate your eagerness to assist this cause." She said politely as she smiled at both Hayagriva and Shrivatsa. Then she pawed at the ground slightly like an anxious foal might. "And...I am glad...that this has worked..." She focused her attention on Shrivatsa. "I'm glad." The mare could have been dead without her chain. Lorenna frowned and knocked the thought out of her mind. No, her network of spies and messengers weren't that important. Surely Shrivatsa's herd would have noticed and protected her but still, the assistance her network provided was something special. It was something that she should and could be proud of. She had made something from nothing and it would only continue to improve from here. They were still in the awkward stage but as they figured everything out Lorenna knew something truly great would bloom. She could feel it in her bones.
Clearing her throat Lorenna pulled herself back out of her thoughts. "Now, if you'll excuse me I need to send a few messages here and there."

"Goodbye then, Lorenna," said Haya. They too had much to do. They had to speak with the birds and find the defenders that had chased off the kalona. After that, they'd have to return to the rest of the herd and end their hiding. Both Haya and Shrivatsa would be very busy for the rest of the day and quite likely several after. The herd would doubtlessly be very rattled by the whole affair, and calming them would take time.
"Goodbye," echoed Shrivatsa. Her thoughts buzzed with ideas of what to do next. Using the bird network they could finally achieve true safety, something they all had craved for a long time. From the evil of the kalonas and the expertise of Lorenna came industry, and a better future built for their herd.
