Ecliptic was quite proud of this net she had made with Kadira, even just laying on the ground she could tell it was a good net, and it would prove to be an excellent squirrel catching net too, she was sure of it!
"Okay!" She agreed when Kadira suggested testing it out and then started pretending to be a squirrel Ecliptic readily agreed - even if her friend looked absolutely ridiculous as a 'squirrel'
Holding in her laughter however Ecliptic turned her mind to the task of testing and grabbing hold of a corner of the net she eyed Kadira carefully before pulling her head back and flinging it and the net forward in an attempt to 'capture' Kadira. As the net whirled through the air Ecliptic couldn't tell if it was going to work or not really, she thought perhaps it might work better if they came up with a way to drop it on a squirrel rather then throw it but maybe this would work too.

Kadira smiled and laughed as she moved about waiting for Ecliptic to toss the net. They wouldn't be able to know how well it worked unless they tried it and since there were no squirrel about she made the best test subject. Sure she was bigger than a squirrel, but they just needed to know if the next worked, which meant getting a chance to throw it and trying to make it land on something other than the flat grass. Kadira kept her eyes on Ecliptic, watching the other foal as she picked up the net and stood there getting ready to toss it. As she watched the net coming towards her part of her wanted to run away, to be that elusive creature that no one could catch, but this wasn't a game, this was something serious, they needed to see how it worked. And so while she still pranced on her hooves she remained where she was.
The small net landed on her back and then slid off. Since it wasn't intended to be used on something as big as a Soquili Kadira called that a successful test. "If I was a squirrel that so would have caught me!" She exclaimed happily before turning to scoop up the net off the ground. "Your turn!" She called out as she took hold of the net. It might have worked but Kadira wanted to try it out as well. She eyed where Ecliptic was standing, waited for a moment and then tossed her head, releasing the grip on the net at what she hoped would be the right moment to 'catch' the squirrel that Ecliptic was at the moment.

Ecliptic watched as the net she had thrown spiraled through the air, she didn't want to jinx her chances but to her critical..though maybe not experienced - eye Ecliptic was fairly certain that the net was going to land properly. She wasn't disappointed, although the net slipped off Kadira's back in the end it had hit on target and if she were smaller it certainly would have worked.
"Yes it would have!" Ecliptic agreed in excitement, practically prancing in place both in excitement and pride over her squirrel catching throw. She was so busy tooting her own horn that she almost missed what Kadira said and gave a little squeak as her net building partner threw the net back at her. Although she was tempted to dash out of the way Ecliptic played along and held her ground as the net dropped over her head and slid off to hand by one of her ears, Giggling she tipped her head to let the remainder slip off. "I think it works just fine." She told her friend.
"Now we have to find a squirrel."

Kadira watched as the net flew through the air, she hadn't really taken the time to aim her shot so she wasn't sure how successful this throw would be. But luckily Ecliptic stood in the line of fire which allowed Kadira to successfully catch the "squirrel" she had been aiming at. Seeing the net hanging off of Ecliptic's ear Kadira couldn't help but laugh, a hearty laugh that had her nearly falling over. It had looked so funny and compared to the stern and serious traveling and mares she was always with this little bit of fun time was a million times more fun to her than it might have been to any other foal. She tried to get her laughing under control after Ecliptic let the net fall off her ear. Slowly Kadira managed to put an end to her laughing and got her breathing back under control. "This is the most fun I've ever had!" She told Ecliptic and it was the truth.
As the last of her remaining giggles fell away Kadira focused back on the task at hand. They had made the net, tested it out to make sure it wouldn't fall apart but now they did need to find a squirrel. "And it cant be one in a tree, I don't think the net would work." It'd likely get tangled in the branches and then they would have to build another net, which wouldn't be a big deal since there was plenty of vine left over and they knew how to make one now. "If we are gonna find a squirrel we'll probably want to be quite...and go somewhere else in the trees." They had been making all kinds of noise and likely had scared off all the smaller animals for some time.

Ecliptic bobbed her head slightly at the other fillies suggestions, with the way they had been carrying on it was likely that all the squirrels had run off..not that she was upset about that, they had had a lot of fun so it was worth it as far as Ecliptic was concerned. "Good idea..and We can fetch those nuts I hid earlier too..to use as bait!" She added, just now recalling that detail.
Pondering for a few moments Ecliptic considered a likely spot to find a squirrel. "I know there is a little stream not far from here..do you think Squirrels drink from streams the same as other animals?" It made sense to her that the water side would be a good place to catch something. Everything had to drink right? Though she had no idea how the Squirrels did it..for all she knew they could just..lick leaves or something. "Or there is another clearing kind of like this on the other side." She went on figuring that if the stream didn't work out they could always just move on to the second clearing.
But first they had to get the nuts and retrieving the net they had created she slung it over her back with a quick toss of her head. "Come on..I let the nuts under a bush a bit up the trail." She told Kadira before trotting off.

"Good idea!" Squirrels and nuts went together like dark and night did. Kadira thought for a moment. Her knowledge of squirrels was very limited, in fact she'd only ever seen them a few times up in the trees during her travels so she wasn't sure if they did come down to streams to drink. "I don't see why they wouldn't. Nearly everything goes to water to drink, even birds do, so squirrels must come down to drink at some point." And if there were nuts laying out near the river that would be all the more appealing and then they would surely come, even if it was only for the nuts. She considered the two options, both had good potential for luring out a squirrel. "Let's try the stream first. If they don't come there for the water and nuts then we can try the clearing." A clearing would give them plenty of open space to throw the net.
"Alright." She said excitedly and followed her friend, pausing just long enough to grab the other net they had made. Couldn't hurt to have both of them right? That way if two squirrels came down they could possibly catch them both. Then they could each have a squirrel friend. Hurrying after her friend Kadira followed Ecliptic down the path, hoping that they could in fact lure a squirrel down from the trees and catch it, that would be a great end to all their hard work.
