Wasteful. She'd been called it before. Ironic, since Tanana was as frugal as they came. Her personality was not at fault, it was her upbringing. This was all she knew.
When food was brought, you split it. The largest went to her siblings, then later, her children first. This generosity was second nature to her; she never saw it as selfless, only doing what she should. And as for the water... sometimes it slowed down the rot if you kept them in it, the colder the better. It would hopefully still be comestible meat tomorrow, provided fish and the water rot didn't get to it (Tanana didn't know the word bacteria). If she didn't save some now, what would she eat later? You never knew where your next meal would come from. Anyone who had gone truly hungry understood that.
Tanana gazed down at all the hares. To her, this was a banquet. She would only get sick if she ate all this at once. Tiruan had urged her to eat an entire zebra with bad results. He meant well, and though it didn't look it, Tanana had accepted this lion did too. Just... good intentions do not perforce mean good results.
She spoke very quietly, but she did speak. Progress was progress.
"If you... It slows down the rot sometimes if you... in the water..." Tanana stared at her hares anxiously.

She hadn't been completely clear about what she meant, but Solomon could piece it together. Something to do with the hares, the water, and it being good for them. He looked somewhat dubious in this moments, but seemed to concede to her superior knowledge on the subject. Well, it may not necessarily have been 'superior' knowledge, but he'd never had to keep food for any period of time before. With this in mind he soon picked up the two remaining hares that she had organised before and padded back to the water.
It was then that he stared quizzically at it - could water really be good for them?
He rolled his shoulders in a loose shrug and then set them back into the water, turning to look towards Tanana and then Ariza. "You'd think that as a coastal lion I would've known about that, huh?" he mused, a mild smile climbing onto his lips as he padded back to the place he had been resting. He then lay back down again, though rather than flopping unceremoniously on his side he had the decency to look relatively alert.
"I learn something new every day," he remarked and rested his chin in his paws. "Bound to come in handy at some point."

Ariza did not have a nose to wrinkle in disgust, but the way she curled her wing near her beak translated the emotion just the same. She doubted the accuracy of this claim. It just seemed odd to her! But she wasn't going to start a feud with a starving rogue that may have suffered diminished mental capabilities as a result. Especially not when she was finally starting to talk like a normal lion would.
At last, Tanana bit into the smallest hare. The feeling of food in her stomach started as more of a discomfort than a relief. She did not show any signs of it, though, and Solomon would have known if she had given the little lioness did not look away from him the entire time. He had managed to get her comfortable enough to resemble something more inquisitive than afraid.
Tanana did not expect anyone to help her as the bird had suggested. She wouldn't go so far as to ask. However, the coast was not somewhere she had been yet, so maybe...
Tanana looked down and continued to pick at the hare with her claws. "Are there a lot of lions there? On the coast?"
"Kanoni is looking for her family," Ariza said.

Solomon turned his gaze from Tanana to Ariza as both spoke to him in turn. He hadn't expected the lioness to acknowledge his existence beyond bolting and as such, her question took him by surprise. Unsurprisingly his responses were delayed as he confirmed that he had definitely been spoken to and it was only when he was certain that he returned his attention to Tanana to provide her with an answer.
"There are a large number, yes," he replied slowly, choosing his words carefully. "They are separated into various prides, but as we are all neighbours we stay on peaceful terms," he murmured. He did pause at this and furrowed his brow, this explanation wasn't technically accurate as there was one pride that caused considerable unease... The Vikings.
"Well, nearly all of us are peaceful," he corrected at last. "There is one pride that I would strongly advise you to avoid unless you have an escort," he added softly, He released a sigh and then tilted his head to the side, mulling over Ariza's additional information. If Tanana aimed to find individuals then perhaps he might be able to help her - he didn't know everyone but he might have seen one or two in passing.
"Do you know the names of the lions you're looking for? If you know I may have heard of them at least," he offered.

He could advise her until he ran out of breath in his lungs. If even just one of her siblings were at that pride, or any pride, Tanana would go there. To die searching for them was more merciful and noble than to live and be content with doing nothing. Tanana preferred to wander rather than wonder.
"Yes." For the time being, she had lost interest in the hare. There was nothing that could keep her attention when you got family involved. "My brother's name is Sethatta. My sisters' names are Sikitiko, Addae, Fatia, and Ure." It was surreal how she recited them. Each and every name sounded incredibly important.
They were to her.
"They all have colors like me," Tanana provided, in case it would help. The tragic truth was she had been torn apart from some of them at such a young age could not remember much about them other than that.

He didn't recognise any of these names, then again he hadn't been around long enough in many of the regions to introduce himself. For all he knew they could have been about, but even her 'description', however brief, hadn't hit home. He certainly hadn't seen them in the Bahari lands and if they resided anywhere else then he hadn't spotted them in passing. His lips pursed into a thin line as he came to this conclusion and he motioned towards the hare.
"You should eat," he instructed and released a sigh. "There's no use in worrying about your siblings if you don't have the strength to find them," he explained and rested his chin in his paws. He couldn't help her to pinpoint the precise location of her family but he supposed he could give her a run down of each region - even better, he could lead her in the correct direction as well. It wasn't as if he wasn't going that way, it wouldn't be any skin off his nose...
"As for your family, I can't say that I've seen or heard of them but I suspect that may be because they're in neighbouring prides," he heaved a sigh and rolled onto his back, flopping his legs down in a rather undignified fashion. "Fortunately I know where those prides are, so if you would like I can show you the way to each and you can seek out your family without fear of getting lost," he offered.
That and he'd be able to ensure she ate, but he kept that thought to himself.

Tanana had gone so long with no leads at all, she'd take anything, and she'd put all her faith in what was given to her. She outright refused to consider that there may be other prides he knew nothing of or couldn't find. She refused to consider that she was not considering it. They would be at one of these places he spoke of. They had to be.
The hare suddenly appealed to her more. Tasted like salvation. Tanana gnawed on it relentlessly and shunned the ache of her stomach. If she needed to devour all of these so they could get moving, she would.
She had found her voice and made use of it between bites: "I will find them," she insisted. "I can't get lost. There's nowhere I should be." Only those she should be with. The where never mattered.
"Don't eat so fast, Kanoni," Ariza scolded.
Tanana still didn't correct her.

That was what he had wanted to see all along. Eating the hares may have been uncomfortable but it was a necessary evil. She needed to satiate her hunger or it would get to the point that there was nothing and no one that could save her. He made a mental note as he watched the lioness, acutely aware that her search (or more so her family) could be used as a bargaining chip if she should fall into such a state again.
...Not that he would be able to share that information with anyone.
"Then once you've eaten and rested properly I'll take you to the lands I spoke of," he promised, mentally charting the route he would need to take. He knew that he would pass by the borders of multiple prides, his only concern was that he didn't fancy his chances if he was ambushed by a number of certain individuals. While most prides were peaceful, he knew of others that were not so pleasant... He might have been big, but he wasn't the greatest warrior in the world.
"We'll start with the smaller territories first, and move on from there," he concluded.

Tanana's silence was the equivalent of confirmation at that point. Circumstance played such a heavy role in communicating with her and not just anyone was up to the task of translating that. She didn't smile or frown much; often there was only afraid and not afraid, the latter being presently ongoing.
Pieces of the hare that most lions would leave for the hyenas, Tanana ate too. Despite her hurry, it didn't cross her mind she could leave the disgusting entrails as they were and move on. How was she to know of social norms that contradicted the ones she'd been raised with?
Perhaps a noisy bird could help.
Ariza might have been a bird, but she knew that was revolting. Why had she dared to look again? Curse her curious nature! "Ew, my goodness! Don't let her eat that! That's disgusting! Kanoni, stop that!"
Tanana must have taken the scolding to heart. She stopped long enough to stare at Solomon and wait for his opinion (orders?).

Hopefolly Shall we use a new RP for whenever they're moving through the different pride lands? n_n Solomon's eyes had glazed over while he waited for Tanana to finish her meal and as a consequence he was unaware of her table manners. Not that he would have told her off for much of it as there was merit in eating some of the organs. However, Ariza's cry knocked him out of his reverie and he came to attention with an undignified snort, eyes wide and expression somewhat frazzled, had circumstances been different he might have yelled himself.
After his vision had cleared he turned his head in Tanana's direction and regarded what Ariza had described as disgusting. It took him more than an appropriate amount of time to decipher what she was complaining about. On this occasion he would have to agree, there were some things that she genuinely didn't have to eat to remain healthy.
"If you're hungry I can get more," he said after a moment of consideration and motioned to the remaining hares. "But you don't need to eat every last scrap, especially that bit," he tilted his head to the side and chuckled softly. "After all that bit doesn't taste that nice," he conceded.
Perhaps that would satisfy Ariza, though he couldn't be entirely sure.

Epine de Rose Y SURE. I will wrap this baby up with this post. Tanana didn't want more. She didn't want what she already had if it meant holding them up. She heard the bird complain about her eating fur and bone and "bits for the hyenas" so she avoided those simply to keep from another outburst.
When she was done, she rested as she was told.
Later, when they started moving, Ariza soared from the branch and followed from the sky.
Needless to say, Tanana was overwhelmed going from zero company to two companions, but if they could help her...

Hopefolly All righty, I'll start the next one up after this closing post. 8D Solomon hadn't anticipated that he would be accompanied by anyone on his way home but as fate would have it, he found himself in the presence of two women. One he had accepted as accompanying him, he had offered to guide Tanana, but Ariza had been a surprise. He'd assumed she would be a curious bird who would take flight and return home when they left her territory but it seemed curiosity had gotten the better of her and she was exploring further afield.
When he was satisfied that she had rested, he then proceeded forward. Without a word he selected the correct route and began to wander towards it. If he had gotten his route right they would stumble upon the Maestros first, then the mermaids (which he would need to avoid) and finally the Kizingo'zaa... so long as nothing untoward happened and the journey was smooth, it wouldn't take long at all.
