Mimsy had begun to expect just about anything from this place. She tried to keep her wits about her as her gaze darted about, wondering when another shadow was going to show up to attack them.

It took a few wrong turns, some snakes, and one odd looking underwater creature to motivate Kostya to escape the labyrinth.

It must have been the anxiety.
The labyrinth swallowed her up this time, trapping her in a winding mess of curves and turns. She opted to return to the beginning, knowing that the probability was too high for comfort that she might just die in there.

Without Kostya by her side at the start, Mimsy just paused and stared for a very long time.
There would be a shadow.
And it would try to consume her.
It was only after she'd decided that there was not going to be a shadow again that she progressed towards the labyrinth, looking over her shoulder to be sure.

Once she was in the safety of the maze's walls, she let out a sigh of relief. The labyrinth could be frustrating at times, but it offered a welcome solace of silence and introspection after the fear of an abrupt battle.
Or it would have been silent, if not for Svensyl.

Mimsy had been so sure that the shadow was just a one-time, first-venture experience that she'd let her guard down by now.
That was a terrible mistake.
The shadow loomed over her, leaning down to exhale a raspy laugh into her ear.
