He smiled, rolling his eyes. "What? So everyone else on this island can be crazy but I can't?"
He de-summoned Saliva and tucked the pen behind his ear again. Taking a bottled water from his pocket, he started to drink it, thinking, before capping it.
"I want people to make it, get out alive, and see the end of this .." How did Rep put it? "..this s**t?" He pocked the bottled water. "For everyone to get along." He was quoting as best as his memory allowed.
He wiped his brow. Damn it was hot out here. He wanted back in his air-conditioned lab now.

Rep didn't look satisfied by the answer. If anything he looked almost disappointed. "Oh aye, I'm sure you are just a ******** good citizen. Just ******** concerned for the good of all people everywhere."
He waved a hand at Melvin dismissively as if he was some sort of miscreant pet. "Whatever man, if you don't want to say something, just ******** tell me. Don't bullshit me by pretending to be a good person, because I know you aren't."

Melvin's smile fell and he looked at him, disappointed that he wasn't just tickled pink by being quoted to some degree. "Why would you think that?" He asked.

"Because I get gut feelings about people. And you don't feel as good and bright and shiny as you look. The outside says mister perfect with nice clean nails and ******** great hair but everything else doesn't seem quite as shiny." His attitude to minipets for one thing wasn't the attitude of a fundamentally moral good person.
"Good people make me feel like s**t when I talk to them." He smirked faintly. " But when I talk to you, I dunno, I sometimes like I'm talking to someone more on my level. Granted, I could be dead ******** wrong. I don't know s**t about you, you have some really ******** mean walls around you made of logic and obsession with detail. I'm not ******** smart enough to get round them."

Hmm. Seemed Rep wasn't as dumb as he looked, and his gut feeling was rather observant. Melvin almost wanted to thank him for his compliments, but instead wondered what dance step to do next. He was being confronted, and he had worked Rep down into accepting to deal with the Rin issue. If he lied and tipped off that gut feeling, he could then distrust him completely and ignore what they had talked about. However, he wasn't about to just show his hand.
"I actually want everyone to get along. I'm not lying about that. You and Rin, you both have taught me a lot of things. I appreciate that." He wondered if Rep was concerned he was going to back-stab him. "Use that gut feeling for other things. I'm not a snake. I'm not going to bite you if that's what you're thinking." But he had many, many reasons for why he did anything. His bright, blue eyes were looking at him from the red rims of his glasses, wondering if he was going to throw a fuss.

Rep seemed to all intents and purposes disinterested, practically bored in his mannerisms, wearing his towel like some sort of toga, completely unphased. But he was watching Melvin intently, curiosity seized by the rather evasive way he seemed to be answering his questions. He really didn't know much about the other hunter, he kept all his cards to his chest well, facts and questions and never emotions.
"So we are useful. We taught you s**t, that's it. Useful like a minipet or something is useful for studying." The snake metaphor chilled his blood but he pushed past it, trying not to think too hard about the scaly bastards. "Not a s...a reptile maybe but worse. What if we are just useful till you make us do what you need. Do we get disposed of too like old specimens? That's what I'm worried about with you."
He narrowed his eyes. "I'm not smart, I don't read, I don't really go in for logic. But I have damn good instincts and you make me ******** suspicious when you start weaving and dodging."

He snorted. "Like you are honest all the time. I have to pull teeth to get a answer from you, so don't go talking to me like I'm the slippery one here, and don't go trying to get into my brain like you know me. Just because I work in the labs doesn't make me think everyone fits nicely into a Petri dish. I'm not disposing of anyone. I've never killed anyone before." To which he made a point to look at Rep. The Sun shouldn't have these concerns when he was the one who killed people.
"I even saved people. Ask Sydney and Ofelia. I work in the Infirmary a lot too, so don't make assumptions." He was done with now being the one being drilled, and was going to go now that he got what he wanted. "If you stay up on this cliff till tomorrow, I will find you again." He informed him, just in case he felt like having doubts and staying on this rock for a while longer than just today.
He started to walk the way he came.

"Fixing people is your job. Fighting is mine. What you do says nothing about who you are." he snorted as Melvin turned to leave. "And I don't know you, that's always been my problem with trusting you and your opinions."
He shook his head and just watched him go.
He still didn't even know if he was his friend.
