It was all over in seconds, probably for the good of both cub and vulture.
Kania had managed to pin the small creature which had been doing its best to make the offended paws bloody when the roar erupted.
If that wasn't enough a quick smack from her father left the chick with a sour face, but nothing more. Still, no one could stop her from looking, and so she continued to stare down the cub.
A helping mouth pulled the vulture chick back a few feet, though the bird refused to remove eye contact. She had her target, and they had business to settle.
"This isn't going well," Matifa voiced the obvious.
Nahmba had scrambled to get a better view, but others had been much faster than any intervention she could provide. "Perhaps we should let them settle it together," the elder lioness suggested.
"What?" Matifa's voice was high in the land of disbelief.
"Survival of the fittest," Nahmba piped out, completely unperturbed. "They may teach each other!"

Vote! arrow Keep vulture and cub separated (chick will go into quarantine until she can behave!) arrow Let them get over their disagreement together (Kania may lose an eye. . . or two, and the vulture might get eaten)

Xatu bit his lip as the cub swatted at Xefo, but the vulture made no move to retaliate. He secretly thought that Xefo deserved that one. Raising and disciplining cubs was something the entire pride did, but he didn't think that vultures should dabble in cub rearing.
"Mother..." he said as Nahmba suggested a deathmatch to settle this, "Are you serious? It might work for two cubs, but with this?"
Xefo preened a few ruffled feathers, and tried to keep his eyes on both his daughter and the feisty cub. He reached over to preen his daughters ruffled feathers too, trying not to disturb the ceremonial mud paining.
"She can hold her own," he said to his lion partner.
"I'm not just worried about her!"
((Xefo: let them work it out. Xatu: Keep them separated!))

A threatening cub-growl escaped from Maru as the vulture chick went after his sister. A peck was one thing, but this was another matter! The timely intervention of the adults kept him from interfering, but the creamy white cub continued to glare at the baby vulture. "I think it should stay away from my sister." Another little growl and a lash of his tail punctuated this.

Dania hadn't been all that upset by the peck, only surprised. But then when the little chick went after her sister, the younger twin went about as white as a lion could manage under her fur. "Kania!" If there was one thing that would always provoke any kind of force from the shy twin it was her sister being in danger. Rushing to her sister's side she got there only to stare helplessly as her twin and the chick, which wasn't so cute now in her mind, went at each other.
Her own half upset, half pleading growl escaped as she shook on the spot, wanting to help but afraid of getting her sister more seriously injured if she actually interfered. Just as her sister got the chick pinned, Dania was all set to get between them, unthinkingly planning to use herself as a shield. But then one of the adults roared and the chicks father got involved, and suddenly it was all over. Pressing tight against her twin's flank Dania couldn't help the shivering that had taken over her body, part fright and part relief her sibling wasn't seriously hurt.
When Kania looked back at her, she offered her mirror image a slightly shaky smile. Wanting to reassure them both that everything was alright again.
Kania would rather the chick stay far away from her sibling...
(Sorry! I spent the day/night away from home)

When the commotion had broken out, Mhisani had scrambled out of the way. Now she was staring at the cub and chick, eyes wide and jaw slack. She shook her head, ears folding back. "If they're going to act like THAT, I'd say they need to be kept apart for a while!" This was doing nothing to endear the lioness to vultures, that was certain. She wasn't sure about keeping ANY animal close to her side like that now.

Hari reached the front of the crowd just as the two youngsters were separated. She relaxed visibly, but her tail tip still twitched with annoyance, and she glared at the tiny vulture with her ears laid back. While she wouldn't do anything, of course, she couldn't help but thinking that the bird's attack had been wildly unnecessary; she was glad to hear the reprimand from its father.
Then Nahmba suggested letting them go at it again to "settle their differences" and Hari tensed up all over again. How could any lion, let alone an elder, suggest such a thing? The amount of damage the two could inflict on one another was not something that should be risked.
"These two definitely need to be kept apart. They may teach each other, but they may also maim each other, which isn't a risk any of us should be willing to take."

Nguvu heaved the giant mass that was his body to one side slightly. Eyeing the vivacious young avian and the equally tempered cub. It would seem foolish to allow any more harm to come to them, but at the same time he saw the clarity in what the others had said. The cub could surely hold her own, and it was usually wise to let these matters sort themselves out, but as a matter between two young creatures, and in a pride he had sworn to protect, he did not agree.
"I think we should keep them apart."

"They are too young!" Nombuso pushed her way to the forefront of the gathering quickly, voice trembling with worry. Instincts told Nombuso to protect the cubs, all of them, so while the action had already come to an end, her reaction had only just begun. It was one thing to let the children learn from their mistakes safely, yet it was another to leave the two feisty creatures to their own devices; of which Nahmba seemed comfortable in doing. Matifa's pitchy response said it all. Things were getting out of hand.
In passing, Nombuso furrowed her brow and shook her head toward their fighter cub in silent scolding. While Kania's strength certainly impressed the lioness, her lashing out did not. "She has already raised her paw once. Justified or not, if the chick will not be calm what is to say it won't happen again? With more severe consequences?" The risks outweighed any other possible notion that was either said aloud or whirled about in her head. Switching her green gaze from Nahmba to Matifa, and then to the pinned buzzard in question; Nombuso shook her head again.
"I agree with the others. Perhaps a time out is in order." Emphasis was pushed out with her last word, urging the decision to be made quickly.

Awiki didn't know what to do, being a young and inexperienced lioness herself. It was instinctual to feel a bit threatened by the vulture, (or rather vultures seeing how the chicks and their parents shared parts in this gathering) but it wasn't a strong enough urge to send her flying into action. Not like Nombuso.
Concern was there, most definitely. She didn't want to see anyone getting hurt...but while the older female stuck her nose into the conversation, all the peach lioness could do was watch. With every voice that contributed, the push and pull of each side grew stronger and stronger for the indecisive lioness. It all but made her dizzy.
So, because situational analysis was not her thing, Awiki decided to just go with whatever felt kind of right. "I think they might be right. Just a tiny break from one another could help keep the ceremony, erm, orderly?" The look that Nombuso shot her may have, more or less, also influenced the lioness' decision.
Maybe.

"Right," Xatu said, "Does anyone else need a mud animal?"
The females would decide what they should do about the small fighters, and until then he could try to make himself useful again. The mud on his paws had dried a bit, but he could always fetch more if they had missed a cub somehow. It was fun to get an excuse to play with mud.
Xefo continued preening and fussing over his daughter. It didn't seem to calm her much, but it did calm him and it also put him close to her in case she decided that another rampage was in order. She seemed hell bent on taking on the cub that had offended her.
"We've talked about this," he said, hoping that this time she might listen, "You need to make friends with the lions. First friends, then you can try to boss them around to your heart's desire."

(( Sorry about the delay. Birthdays, Holidays, the flu. YOU KNOW; kills the creative brain. ))
Nahmba did not seem pleased with the decision of the young, impressionable lions. She sniffled, snuffed, and mumbled out some things under her breath.
"You're going to give the new babies bad luck!" she insisted. Still, the lioness churred as she bumped the small vulture chick, squawking, back towards its nest.
"You might give us all bad luck!" This one seem to be pointed towards Nombuso, who was the other most elderly lion present in the group.
Still, not all was lost, there was a second chick. Matifa breathed in a sigh of relief. "Okay, all cubs with a mud-marking, come forward one at a time. We'll see what the other chicks think."
Hopefully, they were less inclined to attack. . .

ChezaRain Name up to you. Gender: Female Personality: This little chick thinks actions before words, and bravery before fear. She thinks lions completely lack a spine, so was pleasantly taken by surprise when one of the twins so quickly reprimanded her. The vulture will be constantly trying to to get the twin in trouble, and will be the first to push a response to a situation. There's no holding back with this bird, so the young twin will have to find herself being more of the voice of reason. She'll get quite a bit of hell for this, I'm sure. The vulture has some soft sides, too, of course. She's desperately afraid of being left alone; one of the reasons she's so willing to work with the lions to begin with. Don't mistake the vulture chick for having all bark and no bite, and you won't find your eyes pecked out. Excited Apathy Name/Gender/Personality up to you. OOC Info Please send names to Annchen. They still have a third sibling which will be given out by Annchen and Jovi of Shadows. For rank information, they are automatically Cinga because they have a vulture familiar. However, since their bonds will be strong, having grown together, as they turn adolescents they will have the entirety of their adolescent year to decide whether or not they wish to be Enda. When they become adults, they may go through with the private ceremony and become Enda or they may remain Cinga. OOCly, all you need is a completed RP (or solo) detailing the private Enda ceremony. Simply include this in a rank change request, and you're pretty much guaranteed the position.
