Ofelia reached her fifth step and turned to look at the boy just starting all over again. "Looks like Ah win this round. Wanna play a game ta see how many more times ya die b'for ya complete the course?"
Something like a small growl escaped Jake's lips. But no. She wasn't worth his time. All he wanted to do now was finish this damn course and never come back here again. Or at least, not with her. He wasn't sure if he could deal with this humiliation, letting a GIRL beat him... and mock him in the process, even if she WAS here for longer.
Noticing spears protruding from the ground, he was about to hop to the adjacent tiles, only to notice there was acidic goop surrounding it. Damn it all.
Mustering all his strength, he pushed himself past the tiles, landing on a safe one.

Ofelia clapped her hands and cheered on the golem, watching as things seem to go from bad to worse.

Ofelia's cheering did nothing except infuriate him more. This girl. How he hated her so. Between the course and her, he wasn't sure which he hated more.

Her cheering was bringing him good luck so he could go lick a battery for all Ofelia cared.
She couldn't clap anymore though because her hand fell off at the wrist. Awkward.

Ofelia maybe sort of felt bad for that, and she attempted to frown but instead couldn't muster it without her jaw falling off. Maybe this kid would be right, she'd be dead by the time he reached her but only because everything rotted and fell off. Hopefully he'd keep trying - getting runic certified was not really an optional thing.
Runics could and would save a person's life while on the battlefields. Bandages were the most important, maybe they'd do that one next.

Giving up wasn't in his vocabulary. At least, not right now. Not after all the crap they had been through. If he had to repeat this 1000 times, THEN SO BE IT. Hopefully not because his owner will go insane
Booting up another golem, he headed towards the course. He almost didn't have to look as he side-stepped the tile with the large bear trap.

Ofelia watched, and somehow grinned (as best a jawless golem could grin). He seemed to be getting the hang of it and that was the point. It was a lot about luck, a lot about skill.
Which did this kid have?
