"Woe is me! How am I to become a great hero like this!" he lamented. In the very least it didn't last long. Tseng soon was blasted with a sort of terrible screech. It did well to snap him out of it. Shaking his head, he notched an arrow at the pony.
"That voice of yours makes for a terrible song! SILENCING ARROW"

Something struck him in the fog, but he didn't quite catch what it was before it disappeared. You know what, you could have that talk later, Zhi. Absolutely. Just not now.
Gods, and just when the bird had cried its last, when Shik would have been glad to just be done with this fight for once in a life, still more came. An eruption from the ground brought forth the shadows of what had once been, now pale and perverse thanks to the Insanity - and two new monsters stepped forth to challenge them.
Horse-like in feature: the fog had taken two of them in return for the fall of one. Gods damn, he cursed as he readied his dagger and attempted to stab the bone-winged one, finding that the cut barely made a dent in the mass of fog.

It was probably a good thing that Yuzhi was too busy to disapprovingly watch her brother fail at his attack earlier otherwise he'd probably feel worse. She had other matters on hand, like helping this poor creature seek rest. Getting her spear back into her hand she hefted it back out at the beast but her aim was a bit clumsy.
Determinedly she moved on. It was almost singleminded as she called her spear back once again only to fling it at the wingless equine in hopes to bring it down before something terrible happened or even better...That she might uncover the reason for its existence.
She felt her arm becoming tired. Soon she would have to give it a rest in hopes that others can accomplish where she had failed until she felt ready to go again. Her aim was wobbly and at most it was going to be a glancing blow...
Another fling but this time she missed entirely. Unable to bring herself to try anymore for now she simply summoned her spear back to her hand and stared with her brow furrowed in a troubled fashion.

The Phoenix screamed and the room around them began to change. Yet one one painful illusion to wear at their hearts as the Insanity worked to call them home. From the fog rose the trees of war, and at their finish the great forges of Death. The mare hade to swollow a lump as it formed in her throat. It was cruel, them having to relive all of this, just cruel.
There was little time for sorrow though. Two beasts emerged from the fog, and Nergui was ready for the fight this time. She rushed forward, blade in hand, and swung at the first of the beasts in a wide, slicing arch.
But these were horses.. They were rampaging, yes, but horses all th same. One a regal stallion, the other ragged and winged. So very different, it made her wonder.
"Where did they come from?" She shouted the question, to everyone and no one.
For a moment, something flashed across the white around him, something almost familiar. Nooooooooooo. Home was calling him. The tiny cuts and scrapes were scarcely felt, and only made the pain rippling through his being that much worse. Kiwi shrieked, a spine-tingling sound, and barreled towards the greatest source of pain, bare bony teeth sinking into flesh.
Hoooooooomeeeeeeeeee, he cried. We musssst go homeeeeeeeeee.
Aisa's form disappeared as quickly as it appeared on the battlefield, the glimmer of a large crimson scythe flashing briefly above one of the large horses of insanity. The Protector of Death's form radiated a solemn presence, few could remember when she was the one attacking them.
The sharpened end of her scythe pressed deeply into Mengyao's form, her teeth grinding harshly against the tempting strands of insanity. Even the Protector remained affected, her back colliding harshly with Tseng, although battle-hardened experience forced her fall to be a standing one, with her boots digging deep into the ground.
"Home isn't there, darling."

The phoenix left and Soren felt...despair. He was not sure if what they had done was meaningful, not sure if they had accomplished anything. His doubts were even more prominent after the arrival of the two horses.
They were familiar in an odd way, but he had only really met one with wings like that. Kiwi. Grudgingly he turned toward him and raised his khopesh. Something needed to be done and he would do it. He managed a decent blow to the colt, but knew it was not enough. It would be a kindness to take out one of the insane among them, their small herd had already established that.
Quickly he moved again, striking again, a heavy blow, but with the flat of his blade. It was not the best attack, and he knew it even as it hit, but they just needed to take care of it and at least he had added to that.
"What were you thinking," he grumbled under his breath. They had seen the effects before and...how could one let that happen to them after seeing Senga? He would have fought tooth and hooves otherwise, but then again...maybe it was something that could not be fought off. Maybe it was just...fate or destiny or something along those lines. It did not mean that he liked it any better.
That small sadness of what was lost became a stab of despair as the phoenix took flight shortly after the slash she had dealt it with her dagger as everything suddenly became deathly still and silent. But it only lasted a moment when chaos erupted anew, the ground beginning to shake and split, causing the war woman to stumble, her wings unfurling behind her first to help maintain balance and then to beat a couple of times to lift her a few feet off of the ground, her dark eyes scanning, taking in this new and mutated version of the lands they had lost, all torn apart and pieced back together in a way that was almost horrifying.
And then the giant ponies appeared, insanity creatures, oddly familiar yet not at the same time. She did not know either of the horsemen well so there was no reason for her to recognize them. All she recognized was a threat, something to be taken care of as quickly as possible.
She let her Fear imbue the dagger in her hand as she swooped forward towards the horse with the bone-like wings, driving the dagger down and towards it with brutal force before pushing herself back, keeping herself suspended in the air and readying herself for another attack.
The mare was not unnoticed, but Soren needed to focus on the issue at hand. That issue being a colt that had not yet even grown into his proper set of abs yet. He attempted to keep close to Kiwi but he was not built for speed. The colt was out of reach and he lunged forward but still managed to miss.
It annoyed him, but he just settled back and waited for another opportunity. They would put the colt down, and while it was not a fun prospect it was at least something that was clear cut as to what to do. And then they could vial them, make them normal again. Though this pair seemed to have more energy than even Senga had.
It used to be easier. Before the isles fell he cared for one person. Utterly devoted. If she had told him to attack this young stallion he would have without question, without guilt. But now...well, Kiwi was probably his favorite from Famine. Which did not necessarily mean much, he knew only a handful at most, and one was so aggravating that it was easy to distinguish. But he actually liked this one. He was already a valuable asset to the herd and he had potential. Just like Senga. Soren did not like to see them in this state.
He despised that deep down, even though he knew it should help them, he did not like attacking. He was a guardian, he did things without question, he obeyed orders, and that was fine. But this time he did not like it attacking. It needed to be done though so he did it. Jaw set he moved forward, slashing at the horse's leg, distancing himself.
It was easier when he had not known all of these other horses.
