“Hm.” PL studied each of their creations carefully and then decided to start at the end furthest from the brownish drink. That one could wait until last. She took a sip of the orange one, getting the distinct taste of carrots. It was a bit like drinking carrot puree with a hint of sweetness. “Not bad I suppose… not my kind of drink, but it has its merits.”

With Barley’s reaction as a guide, PL wisely chose to push the red drink aside. “I don’t think anyone wants their drinks to be spicy…” She poured the other filly a glass of milk and pushed it towards her. “Quick, drink this!”

It was her turn to pick and she studied both glasses carefully before nudging the green one forward and saying, “let’s drink the last one together, okay?” She took a sip of the green drink and wrinkled her nose. “It tastes a bit like grass.”

“Really?” PL asked, not sure why anyone would want a drink that burnt rather than refreshed your mouth. “I’ll have to gather more information on that.” She took another sip of the green one. It wasn’t that bad actually and at least left a pleasant aftertaste. “Well, shall we tackle the last one?”

Peering into the glass of green-brown muck, PL gave Barley her most determined face. “Okay, on the count of three… one, two…three!” She downed the whole cup in one go and very nearly gagged a second later.

A hoof to her mouth, PL’s face went pale as she wobbled queasily on the spot. It tasted just about as good as it had looked.

When PL was certain she wasn’t going to throw it all up, she quickly grabbed the jug of water, taking a big gulp to wash the taste away. She slid the jug over to Barley so she could do the same.

“Ugh.” The foul taste was still lingering. “Uuuugh.” PL wasn’t quite sure what had gone wrong in that batch, but enough of that could surely poison a person. “That was horrible.”

PL began munching on some of the leftover fruit; anything to cover the flavour of that drink. As Barley flopped her head on the table, she couldn’t help but give a small giggle. “You know… my mama would say this was our fault for trying to make drinks out of vegetables.” This had been the most disastrous drink experiment session she’d ever had.

“That sounds like a good idea. We’d best get to know the basics of making vegetable based drinks, so we don’t make the same mistake again.” PL grinned. It seemed she’d found a friend to share her hobby with. Playing with her brother all the time was all well and good, but sometimes you needed another girl to make the day special.

“I wonder if there’s some left in the blender…” She gave a devious little smile.

There was some left and PL casually poured it into another cup. “Want to go find my mama?” She asked, failing to look even remotely innocent.

“Okay!” Pink Lemonade gave a cheeky grin. “Follow me.” Cup of evil held aloft, she led her friend inside.

Later, the two fillies were still laughing when Candy Cane banished them to the naughty corner, the older Phony wobbling on the spot and looking a rather unfortunate shade of green.
