"Wait... there are more of them?!" Rin's eyes lit up as the beaming light of JOY deep within flicked on at this realization. "I.. I loved it," was all she could offer him.

"Of course there is more! There is an entire lineup! Wait, which one did you see? I don't want to spoil it. What do you remember the most about it? I don't want to ruin by talking about a movie you haven't seen." Melvin was excited. If he had a tail, it would be on full sweep right now, and he almost knocked over his coffee in his own excitement. He loved Aliens. HE LOVED THEM!
"I have them all on my computer....." And then he paused. "Ahh. Which doesn't even work." He placed his head in his hands a moment just thinking about it. "I need to get a hold of the lab techs to get that fixed. Then I can show you them all." He had a lot of movies on his computer.

Rin was grinning ear to ear, "Chest bursting! God, that was so amazing and unexpected! The best thing ever..." She trailed off to give a soft pining sigh, "I really want to see it again... and the others. It's a shame I already asked Clarice for a favour on someone elses Ipod." She gave Melvin the most forlorn stare as if he had just run over her pet dog. Now don't you feel guilty Melvin?

Melvin and Rin had a shared puppy that was fun over, but now he was even more worked up to get his laptop fixed. "No. No. I can get this to work. I just need to save up more. I already went on that one weird experiment. I'm sure that I can work up to getting my laptop fixed." Oh s**t. He had Candace's shoes to buy too, and that would drop his funds down a few hundred bucks. Damn. He really needed to start making a list of what he absolutely needed for now. His first day off the island might be a bit of a adventure in budgeting.
"I have to wonder if they at least have a DVD player around here. I could at least BUY the dvds whenever I get leave." It would make time between saving to runic his laptop and yet still see those movies. "I used to watch them all the time. I miss having television." Sci-Fi channel was his go-to place when he had free time and a bottle of whiskey.
He looked back up to her. "Chest busters are the best." He said with a curling smile as if he was talking about fluffy, Labrador puppies. "Now, at the end of the movie watched, did Sigourney Weaver beat up a alien in a mech suit?" If that was it, then it was the first one. Better start with one than having to backtrack.

"Actually, Dwight showed us a movie in Candace's room before. He's kinda like... the AV guy? He might know what's do-able in terms of watching a movie... at least he is fairly easy to negotiate with," she was starting to look excited again... "God, it was so long ago but there was definitely an awesome space suit battle. But yesssss I knowwww... chest bursters were the best parrrrt. I wanted one so bad as a kid. Well, obviously not bursting out of my chest but you know what I mean."

"They made them! You had to special order them and find the right dealer, but they made them! I had one about.....this big. Tail and all." He stretched his hands out to show the length. "Not crappy plastic either. This thing was detailed. Used to wrap it around my computer monitor base back home." It had been a present from his brother who had looked online and found a dealer. He had given him a teddy bear with a hole in his stomach for Christmas, but then made a show of having it get out of the bear's chest. Even though he thought Melvin's love of the series was a bit nerdy, he entertained his older brother.
"Just...didn't know what to pack when I had to go. Didn't even know I'd have a room." He brought what he felt was necessary. He should have brought it. To remember his brother. He should have brought a lot of things.
"I miss it." He whispered, looking away as he sipped his coffee.

Rin had almost completely forgotten her coffee by this point, the topic at hand far more entertaining, "It sounded amazing. Most of the stuff I brought was just... purchased for the trip. In all honesty, I had almost nothing personal with me. Nothing but a packet of seeds. I tried planting them but.. well... you know. So much for sentiment in this place."
She frowned as she watched him a bit before suddenly speaking up, "Why did you choose to come anyway?"

He looked back to her. "Hmm? Oh." He blinked back from his own thoughts, pulling back to the conversation. "Well, I grew up wanting to know more about the stuff I saw, and no one around ever mentioned seeing what I did. When the recruiter came, it was like having a key to a chest full of answers waiting for me. I was given some time to think it over. I think he saw I was a bit hesitant." His life had been normal, all shadow-seeing aside. He had a comforting family, friends, was doing well in school.
"I thought, 'If I say no, could I live with myself knowing I passed up the only opportunity to get the answers I always wanted?'" He looked down at his coffee, swirling it around a bit and watching a stray piece of ground coffee floating to the top. "I think I would have regretted it for the rest of my life, and destroyed myself thinking What If I had said Yes?" He finished his coffee in one sip. "Did you have any regrets?"

"Life is full of regrets I suppose. This though? Actually was not one of them as it turned out. When I first woke up? I regretted it, I regretted it so much. Nothing made any sense at all anymore. Part of me thought.... well... hah... I thought I had made the whole thing up. That I slid off the deep end and this was it. I was going to be trapped forever in a world that didn't exist doing nothing that mattered. But. I realized after meeting some people that my mind just isn't capable of creating illusions that stupid," she interrupted herself with raucous laughter.
"In any case; now I don't. My life matters. I'm not crazy; I was just in a world I didn't belong in." She finally took a swig of her coffee, drinking the rest in one go.

He inspected his cup a moment. "Didn't you have family? Seems a lot of people here gave up everything just to come here." He said, glancing around. He probably wasn't the only one who left loved ones back home.

"I had my dad... but he was scared of me, of the things I saw. He didn't even need to say it. I could see it in his eyes," she frowned down at the empty mug before pitting any feelings that stirred and forced a weak little smile on her face. "You?"

"Worried." He said, thinking about them. They probably though worst of him now. That he really had been crazy, and it just caught up to him at college. That it was destined to happen. He hated that they would probably be lead to think that in the end, when he had no way to tell them otherwise aside from that letter.
"Since I was young, my parents were just worried, but they did what parents did. Watched, hoped, prayed, got me counseling, and tried to get me to interact. Made sure my grades didn't slip or that I took drugs. Just like any other parents. Our neighborhood was pretty tight." Very close. He grew up knowing a lot of people in and around their block. Didn't help when word spread that the Wood's son was a bit touched in the head.
"I think they were more scared for me than of me. Don't know what they feel now." He missed them terribly. "Kinda wish I knew what they were up to. How they took it." He got up.
"Going to get more coffee." He said, and went to fill his cup.

Rin followed him close behind, she too wanted more coffee and waited patiently behind him again for her turn. "Ah... I didn't really have friends before I came here," she offered a weary smile. "I was always a bit anti social anyways so a lot of that was my own doing... I was also very involved in my studies and my social skills all around lacked..," the thought of the laughter made her weary smile melt away rather quickly. "I'm here now though... and the people here actually need me in a way. It's rather nice... I don't know. Do you regret then? Leaving it all behind, I mean."

He peeled the top of a cream container and poured it into his coffee cup. "I would have regretted it either way. Either way, living with regret to not get answers or leaving it all behind to get them, the decision is already made and I'm 2 years dead." He poured his coffee in. "No point talking about it." In short, he didn't want to talk about this anymore.

"You know, there's more things to this than the past at least. There's a lot to look forward to still. Partnerships, friends, getting stronger, gaining rank, money, free food and board, amazing things you've never seen or experienced before... knowledge beyond your wildest dreams..," she paused to sigh softly before going to pour her own mug using the exact equation and technique as last time; fork and all.
